The prime directive was quite literally made to be broken. It was never about looking at some random people suffering and laughing and saying "I guess that's the way the God I don't believe in wants things to be", and nobody ever actually gets in trouble for breaking it to save innocent people when it's practical for a ship to do so.It really only exists as a safety net, essentially a built in excuse, for starfleet captains to wash their hands of situations that they technically could stop and morally probably should stop, but practically speaking would be too much of a burden to deal with.
>>222996760They believe in God in the show explicitly. They encounter him. They also treat lesser gods from false religions they encounter completely differently. You have made up an alternate shoe that doesn’t exist and are talking about it
kinda ironic that the got a taste of their own medicine once and go fucking crazy genocide everyone
The only thing that can save Star Trek is a 100% wipe and reboot. Only keep-the name Star Trek-the ship is named The EnterpriseThat's it. No starfleet. No Vulcans. No Klingons. No warp drives. No any of it. A completely new universe to explore with new characters, races, technology, and no baggage holding it all back.

Death should have meaning
>>222999069why shouldn't the old outnumber the young? all that condensed wisdom and lifelong stability.technology has advanced to where they can be kept fed, mobile and safe, what's the problem? even moreso in a startrek future.in the real world, average life expectancy increases as a society becomes safer, healthier and more technologically advanced, it's a positive sign.in third world countries, average life expectancy is low.you've had hammered into you that it's a sign of doom, because the media has relabelled it as "ageing population", and "average life expectancy" and the reasons for it have been wiped from existence, despite it being the same thing.Japan has been developing elder-care robots like crazy for decades, seems better than designing murder pods.
>>222998595>>222998760Impressive how full of yourself you are despite obviously lacking any form of intellect. A self-made failure, proud and lonely. Truly impressive, can't wait for you to respond.

>>222999163>why shouldn't the old outnumber the young? all that condensed wisdom and lifelong stability.Old people get stuck in their ways and ignore the reality of society and how hard it is to get a foothold all too oftenOld people can stop appreciating things before they die and deprive younger people from enjoying them as they didOld people tend to buy into narratives more because of a higher trust and dependence on governmentOld people cannot do the work that young people can without self harming, and their mental faculties are always called into quiestionI could go on, but society ultimately loses the thing called vitality when the old outnumber the young. The old outnumbering the young is also often a symptom of a lack of opportunity for the youth
>iit: anything but Star Trek
>>222999196sounds like a WEF booklet.people don't change, being "stuck in their ways" is also called preserving reality when corporations and corrupt governments try to change them at lightspeed and eliminate any trace of the past. living memory is a threat to their machine.at this point, people should be semi retired by 50, and be able to live off their savings while advising the young. instead governments are raising retirement age to support various parasites, meaning most people die before reaching any kind of peace or rest.young people fall for lies the hardest, which is why media/education brainwashing is so heavily barrage in their direction; they are blank slates.. same reason why the incredibly friendly governments are lowering the voting age to 16, they want to be able to alter things as fast as possible, and the young are far easier to corrupt since they have no memory of a better world.i doubt you know any old people, and instead repeat party slogans from various propaganda. see how easy you were to turn against your own grandparents?elders were respected throughout history until the last couple of decades, as they held wisdom, experience and were the heads of families. when corporations and governments and television became the singular mouthpiece and a replacement for the wise elder, they sought to ensure they had no rivals, and created a divide and conquer between old and young, just like they did between men and women.try thinking for yourself sometime instead of being emotionally programmed by the media.

>>223003481>(cutting the transport accident and briefing scenes are bad changes)What are you talking about? Both scenes are still present. The soundtrack cuts were necessary to trim down the excessively long reaction shots - Jerry Goldsmith also wrote the music purposefully so that cuts wouldn't be jarring.
>>223003553They are cut, and poorly. Part of their supposed 'pacing' changesThe transport scene rushes through and removes the lingering horror reaction, the briefing is even worse because it removes Kirk losing his composure in front of the crew
>>223002455I think it's funny, especially the over-the-top evil guy voice. So bad it's good; shitkino, one might say
>>223003724Oh that's what you meant by cut. I thought you meant they were removed completely which isn't true. I agree on some of the lingering reactions but a lot of the ones during the V'Ger trip lingered too long. The theatrical edition of TMP is so naked; almost everything that highlights the characters is missing, and certain effects were left unfinished. I don't know why in 1979 they cut out Spock crying but left in the extra long scenes of the Epsilon IX raido chatter or Kirk's crew staring at the viewscreen.
>>223003830Also growing up I always had the "special longer version" VHS which has everything they ever filmed so when I saw the theatrical cut for the first time in my life it felt rushed and chopped up.

Should I watch the TNG movies, Voyager and Enterprise?
>>223009359The TNG movies suckVoyager is worth a watch, but not as good as TNG/DS9/TOSEnterprise...? It's an acquired taste
>>223009359skip the TNG moviesVOY's best episodes are as good or better than TNG's best but they're pretty rare.ENT requires faith of the heart which you will almost certainly not have from the outset.
>>223006144Shut the heck up. -_-; Let's see your "soap opera bloom."
>>223009402>>223009421I want to counter by saying First Contact is fucking great.
>>223009359Yes. Like anything there are ups and down, but you might as well watch them. If with their drawbacks, they are generally better than any new stuff.>>223009402Enterprise is an aquired taste, but once you get it, the show is a lot better than people give it credit for. Also, it shows the Vulcans as the turbo autist assclowns they are, which is great!
>>223009445First contact is not a poorly made movie it's just not a star trek movie.>>223009455ENT absolutely shits on the vulcans except the ones that fuck human men.
>>223009445It's a decent action movie. It's not trek at its heart though. Picards character is a fucking mess in it
>>223009402The middle TNG movie, the one where Worf gets acne, was just an extended episode and I thought it was just fine.
>>223009471Insurrection is the most trek TNG movie. It's still kinda worse than every TNG 2 parter except Descent
>>223009471>>223009501Except for the finale I really love Insurrection. The bigger budget matters even when they mostly dont do anything special with it. If First Contact had just been high-budget chilling with Cochrane on earth doing nerd shit for an hour and a half it would have been great, too.
>>223009468Yea they fucked up Picard in that one for sure. Him having a visceral reaction to the borg is fine. But him becoming an action hero over it is kinda odd. It would have been better if his PTSD made him deal with them as a cold blooded sociopath.

>>223008576>The directors who made the latest D&D movie were hired to write the next moviemfw>>223008333I know it's over and the white slavers George Lucas spoke of owns it and all of mainstream sci-fi now. I was just checking if I was allowed to hope.
>>223009588>It would have been better if his PTSD made him deal with them as a cold blooded sociopath. This still would have been far too jarring, especially after Picard already having gotten over the borg shit in the show with the episode at his vineyard just after BOBW and also the I, Borg episode with Hugh
The Wesley Crusher hate is so overblown. I’m a few episodes into season 2 and so far there’s only been like one thing he’s done that’s annoying, and that just seemed like a weird one-off out of character line so I don’t even mind that much. Does he get worse at some point or are old trek fans just weird and nitpicky about this?
>>223009734He's annoying in season 1 because he's a little know it all who is a super gifted generational genius (according the to traveller). The s1 writing did him no favours. He's fine in season 2 up till his second last appearence though. He was just written much better. His final appearance he swings back around to being annoying
so what is the in-universe explanation for human espers seeming to disappear between TOS and TNG. i know in real life the reason was that between the 1960s and 1990s ESP went from something being seriously researched in the public and private sector to being debunked as psuedoscience, but what's the in-universe reason for starfleet testing everyone for their esper rating to seemingly abandoning the whole thing.
its time
>>223009890My guess is that it doesn’t come up that much because humans who are gifted enough with esp to do anything worth a damn with it are so rare. Plus there are races like Vulcans and Betazoids that just outclass them easily with psychic abilities, so you’re more likely to see them.
