Saw Ragebait because one anon or two shilled it these past few threads, and it was...okay... It definitely had a better wrap around than all other V/H/S films after 2 in the fact that its the actual connective tissue meant to link all these stories together, and the way the final segment had sight gags involving the prior ones made me chuckle. Peaked early on with the first segment though, that felt like the most realized in terms of budget even if the special effect for the ghost straight up looked like a placeholder left in during editing. Second had an uncomfortable build up at least, third one was the weakest of them all without much dread, and the fourth one was let down by the fact that its just a regular monkey costume just modified to have a spooky face.I definitely wouldn't go far to call it better than most V/H/S films though, most of Viral yeah and '99 or '85 maybe. I didn't hate the film, the acting was fine and compared to plenty of other very low budget indie horror films I've seen on Tubi its competently made and put together, its no Night of the Dead with Ron Jeremy at least. Just feels more like a stepping stone for the studio and directors who far as I can tell did basically nothing before this.
>>223141048it was alright>I definitely wouldn't go far to call it better than most V/H/S films thoughof course, also VHS has the benefit of being an october hate watch tradition.
>>223141048> most of Viral yeah and '99 or '85 maybe. This is already better than pretty much half the entire series. Honestly, it just shows how weak the VHS series is overall.
>>223141048The portal monkey one was enjoyable and funny, especially the part when he was making fun of the brokie. I actually lol’d.
>>223139242This theme reminded me of picrel, which I watched a long time ago, but can't remember if it's any good or not.>>223140204If you're in the mood for a western horror-comedy there's also Sundown: The Vampire in Retreat with Bruce Campbell.
>>223141528>Sundown: The Vampire in RetreatKino, just not a real western
>>223141570Yeah, I should've said western-adjacent
>>223141570>>223141654you could almost say the same about bubba ho tep
>>223141683Honestly still don't know if I like this movie after all these years.
>>223141688there's something offputting about the beginning but by the time it ended, I was totally invested
One Missed Call 2 was pretty cheesy. Almost in a good way. The lack of effects was a letdown, and the changes to the lore was a bit of a head scratcher. Peak money grab. Solid performance by our ghost girl though. She performed better than the rest of the cast somehow.
>>223140280Kino.
Why the fuck is Smile 2 as good as it is?
>>223141751Strictly and completely on account of Cute Girl Actress. Focusing your movie around a pretty girl is the single best thing you can do as a horror director.
>>223140141The 00s are your weakest era because the 00s are the weakest era. They suck>>223139909Listen to me: You SUCK. I know who you are and you suck.
>>223141790Do you think she did a good job, or just that she is cute and that's all that mattered?
>>223139682what a world we live in
>>223141833First and foremost, she's cute. Second to that, she gave an entertainingly over-the-top performance, which would normally be considered bad acting, but we're living in a time where bad acting is the new good acting. We serve the Chinese audience these days, and they want big-eyed laowai making goofy faces in every scene.
>>223141876>mfw when are in the sci-fi horror timeline
You can forget, and rewatch ONE (1) horror movie for the first time again. What movie are you picking?
>>223141932>You canI choose not to. I'll keep my memory of it intact.
>>223141932something with a 4K release. I watched shitty rips of many films and didn't appreciate them because of that.probably The Fog or Halloween III. I've given those the biggest reappraisals.
>>223141967Same. I don't necessarily care about the memories in an absolute sense, but there's a good chance that I'd end up liking the thing less. How much I enjoy things is highly time and context sensitive. If anything I'd have to think of a movie that people like, that I DIDN'T really like, and just give that a try.
Just watched Y2K, We Bury the Dead, Night Patrol and They Will Kill You. All of them were TERRIBLE. Recommend me something good to break this shit streak.
>>223142118Disagree about Y2K and They Will Kill You. Night Patrol is poz'd anti-white anti-cop garbage though. Absolute shit that only far-left retards would enjoy.
Why did you tell me this was good? It was very mid. I thought the main character was very unconvincing as a charismatic host. The whole premise was a little too cheesy and tongue in cheek. I thought the skeptic guy was good but the whole story was very dumb.
>>223142145>They Will Kill Youcome on man it's so lame, girlboss beating up dozens of men twice her size
>>223142149>The whole premise was a little too cheesy and tongue in cheekI thought it would have been excellent if not for this. Like take the humor slider from 7 down to 2.
>>223142176>wants reality>watches moviesAre you retarded? Hope you don't watch any sci-fi, supernatural, slashers, space, or really ANY horror movies because none of them are realistic. Either stop being a hypocrite or kill yourself. Choice is yours.
>>223142118Humanist Vampire, if you like cute girls.Otherwise uhh, not a lot of good kinos. Obsession obviously. Primate is ok.
>>223142211I didn't say it was unrealistic (although it's true) I said it was lame
>>223142118Oh and Hokum. People are like 50/50 on it but depends how sensitive you are to plot contrivances.
>>223142149>>223142184For me it was the fact that they started with the concept of "70s talk show" and then within 15 minutes, it stops doing anything to keep up that illusion. Nobody looks or talks like they're from the 70s, and the special effects take you out of the period as well.
>>223142234Good luck never watching movies again.
You know what, I'm gonna go get some burgers and watch a horror film.
I'm finally watching the Mummy after watching Evil Dead Burn yesterday. Why did they EVER give this kid back?

Alright the time has finally come, I'm in the mood to watch Haxan
>>223142716Just as some films are perfect for Halloween, this one's perfect for Walpurgisnacht / St. Valborga's Night or 30th of April.Have fun anyway. Häxan is one of the old classics.
You must be genuinely mentally disabled to frequennt these shitty threads. There are like maybe 15 horror movies worth checking out and the rest is just a completely unwarranted assault on your mind that you would be treating like shit and I bet most of you don't even have the excuse of being retarded nerdy Razorfist-type metal heads
>>223142844>retarded nerdy Razorfist-type metal headsThat's exactly what I am though
>>223142844Most horror films aren't horror desu. And most just mix horror with comedy or gore. But then i think woman in black is spooky because it hits the buttons i find creepy
This sure is a movie
>film starts with 8 logos of production companies you've never heard of and who will never make another film after the one you're about to watch
>>223143051that's so they can say>FROM THE PRODUCERS OF BARBARIAN, THE NUN, SCREAM AND THE CABINET OF DR CALIGARI
>>223143051most of them are financing companies
>>223143051When I see this, I turn 0 degrees and continue watching the movie, because by that stage I can't be bothered searching lists to pick out another horror. I probably just spent 10 minutes trying to find something that looks half decent.
>>223143069The movie I'm about to watch (or not) does no such thing. ("The Midnight Man") Apparently the director and writer is one of the people who say "I come-uh to America to make-uh movie!" He has done camera work and production design in a number of cheap movies and this seems to be his "grande oeuvre".>>223143082Yes, then it's no wonder you'll never hear from them again, because they all went bust when the movie bombed.>>223143112I'll give it 10 - 15 minutes to see if it's tolerable. I've got a lot of other stuff to watch. Not all horror, but it doesn't have to be. Main thing for me is it's entertaining.
Why is A Quiet Place never mentioned here
>>223143157I occasionally mention how much I hate it and John Krasinski
>>223143157I recently watched scream having only seen scary movie before and theres nothing scary about scream is camp and silly, the bit at the end was pure comedy
>That Grandma being eaten alive by coyotes in the MummyGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZ
>>223143157"Seven" is horror? I'd tag it as "crime". It's about a serial killer and the cops who track him down. Nothing supernatural happens nor does the film try to be scary as some slasher flicks do.
>>223143195Horror doesn't need supernatural elements
>>223143209I know, that's why I wrote "nor does the film try to be scary". There's no scene in "Seven" where we see a victim and the killer getting closer and closer, the music getting dramatic and the suspense rising. If it had that, then maybe you could classify it as "horror".
>>223143192drew barrymore strung up in that tree was pretty creepy, really great shot too. but yeah at the end it's more over the top.
Was looking for slashers on Tubi and found this.
>>223143270I remember some anon watched it, it's like a full film of meme references
>>223143157Because the ending is retarded and to act like the US government wouldn't have figured that out, is beyond unbelievable. Sound deterrent/warfare has been a thing since the Japs experimented with it during WW2.
>>223143195Seven is a psychological crime thriller. If it's considered horror then so are a bunch of South Korean crime thrillers.
>>223139242This is you guys
>>223143337>"Film bro" tendenciesthe ai got the ick
I feel like the Mummy was actually cool. Some of it comes across a little strange, like the filmmaker was a pedo or something. I'd say it's 90% of a good movie, but the 10% won't have me rewatching it.
>>223143296In a good way or a bad way
>>223143370It's too damn long, stretched out. There's some great sfx and cool Raimi-worship direction but not enough to overcome it.
>>223143399I was gonna disagree with you, but I realise now it's over 2 hours.
>>223143399>It's too damn long, stretched out. That's a thing I hate about modern movies. They used to have to tell a story in 90 minutes, maybe 100. Dragging the story out to two hours or over would have resulted in the theatres having to schedule fewer shows which meant less revenue. Nowadays most movies are produced with streaming in mind where a longer runtime means more "content". Nobody edits out the boring parts anymore, movies are generally too long.
>>223143460Let the guy release the movie the way he wants to. If you don't like it, you don't have to like it. If it's too long for you, ya don't have to watch it.
>>223143479I watched Lee Cronin's Mummy to see what the fuss is about. I won't watch it again. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either, and it was too long.
>>223143479I don't mind long movies, but they need to work. Weapons, The Substance - films I thought were similarly bloated but with no obvious way to cut anything.
So, the world is just fucked now, right? Why would they kill the Magician? She was selfish, but she was saving the world.
any other movies like cabin in the woods?
>>223143540She's a sympathetic character despite the portrayal. She should have just bought some nigerian kid though.
>>223143572I like "Tucker and Dale vs Evil". It's about a cabin in the woods. Not as meta as "Cabin in the Woods", but great fun.
>>223143572You could say Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma is. Not out on VOD yet I don't think.
>>223143604this looks horrible
>>223143629More funny than horrible really.
Gonna watch this nowHave a strict feeling I'm in for kino
>>223143629Not really scary, but it's way better than it looks
>>223143650Tried that twice and broke it off both times because it was too weird and boring.>written, produced and directed by William Peter BlattyI also hate the other movie he wrote, produced and directed, "The Exorcist III". I think the guy was a hack.
all women are whores
>>223143650It's a filmy film. Though no Ninth Gate.
>>223143708Did you accidentally watch 2 instead?
>>223143766No. I watched the one that only consisted of dialogue between George C. Scott and somebody else, all filmed in a flat shot, and hated it. I had the impression it was a visual audio book. Blatty has no idea of filmmaking.

>>223143902>>Hey, let's make a third Exorcist movieNo one said that. What they said was>call it Exorcist III. That'll get asses into seats
Haxan was good, didn't know what to expect but it was quite humanist. Impressive that by 1922 they already had jumpscares, stopmotion etc.
>>223144150Also the 7th part looked into psychology, like for example they had that case of the woman who was a kleptomaniac, i.e. she was compelled to steal stuff. People in remote rural parts still partially believed in spells and witchcraft in the 1920s. (In fact there are still a few exorcisms being performed today.)
>>223144150>Impressive that by 1922 they already had jumpscares, stopmotion etc.You should watch Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau's "Faust" (1926) then. Made just a year before the arrival of the "talkies" it not only great sets, but also makes use of early special effects, like double exposure. It was the most expensive movie ever made at the time. Also the pact with the devil classifies this as a horror movie.
this general praises trash like They Will Kill You while claiming kino like Exorcist 3 is bad
>>223143182basedi hate that guy
is this worth watching
>>223144967Exorcist 2 is not bad actually
I watched "Till Death" (2021). More of a psychological horror than a horror movie, but it was OK. Megan Fox cheats on her husband with a black guy and as revenge her husband chains himself to her and then shoots himself. Before doing so he has driven both out to a remote house, has removed every tool and sharp object from the house, has cut the phone line, destroyed the mobile phones and drained all the gasoline from their car. He has also ordered to murderers to come to the house to kill her.Starts pretty slow but gets interesting after 20 minutes or so. 5.5/10.
>>223140204The other anons covered almost everything but you could add>Ghost Town>The White BuffaloThere's also Ithaqua coming out this month. A Lovecraft based wendigo movie made by the reformed Hammer studios.
>>223145146>Exorcist 2It has those flashing light bullshit devices, but at least Linda Blair and Richard Burton are acting, it has interesting sets and it's not just George C. Scott going to places and talking to people.

>>223139483what's the name of this
>>223145202Neither did George C. Scott.
>>223145202So she really pissed on the floor?

>>223145294Exorcist: 1 > 2 > 4 >>>>>> 3 > 5.Technically 5 was shot before 4, but was such a mess that it was held back, then 4 was made, then 5 was edited and released even though it was a mess. You're OK to disagree or even like 3, but I still think it's a bad movie in regards to story, script, direction and acting.
>>223140047Roku Channel but you pay for no commercials.
>>223145082well i started watching now and it seems kinda cringe, i get the idea but its just not that well donemurder death koreatown did schizokino FF better
>>223140431>>223140533There's a few other obscure ones like Shadow Of Chikara.Django The Bastard gets described as horror but it seemed like a stretch to me.There's actually a shitload of modern syfy tier slop up to and including Tremors 4. A few of those might be alright but mostly not.Purgatory might be worth a watch but it's not really horror, more like High Noon with a supernatural bent.
>>223145382assuming 3 had the script they really wanted to shoot in the tone they shot it then there is absolutely nothing wrong with the acting at all. anything past 3 just never existed anyway.

Can anyone help me out, I can't count...How many days till days until Oct 1 ?
>>223148660>How many days till days until Oct 1 ?Damn, turns out I can't even read.
>>223148535Well the story (or German folk tale in this case is): A highly educated but old doctor gets tempted by the devil and makes a deal with him - he gets everything he wishes for selling his soul. At first it's great, Faust is young again and travels the world. Then he falls for a young woman, and the devil kind of spoils that. In the end their child dies, the young woman is burned at the stake, and Faust loses his soul. I'd say this is horror.Btw. there was a real doctor Faust who lived in the town of Stauffen in the middle ages, he spun tall tales, he was a bigger than life figure, and he died in a fiery explosion of his alchemy laboratory. That kind of started the rumors, then stories, the stories crossed over into England, from there back into Germany again, and it grew more horrible with each retelling. You could also watch the movie (get a version with English subtitles or title cards) and form your own opinion. It's pretty well made for a 1926 film and I love the sets.
>>223148777yes i know the story of faust, i've seen several adaptations, including the 1926 kino. there are definitely more horror-y versions of it. but the story itself is not horror, more of a drama/fable than anything.you have to remember that the core aspect of a horror film is to spook the audience. dark shadows, crazy kills, a monster never fully seen. faust does none of this.
>>223148430Whore.
>>223149109I partly agree, but I would suggest that the film features psychological horror. The impending doom of Faust, the tragical killing of Gretchen's brother, the tragic death of Faust's child, the execution of Gretchen and Faust being unable to help her, all of that would have been absolutely horrible to the 1926 audience. You could make the same argument against horror and for psychological horror for The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, and Häxan (discussed earlier in this thread) wouldn't be horror at all since it was meant to be a documentary.

We're truly living in the Charles Bandissance
>>223148777Worth noting also that the operatic production of Faust is the backdrop against which The Phantom Of The Opera is played.
>>223149605I didn't know that, but it makes me think of "Phantom of the Paradise" which is one of my favourite movies and in which that's also the case.

Hello working class. How is everyone’s weekend?
>>223149779not bad wagebro, just playing halloween the game and debating whether or not to 'thon the entire series again. the thing is when i do that, i have to go by timeline, so naturally i watch the original like 4 times at least.
>>223149554speaking of, how come no one ever talks about this franchise when discussing movies with little murderous creatures (or whatever you call those)

>>223150009>Do you actually work? yeah most people on this site actually have some form of employment, anon. not all of us can be lazy niggers like you. when you turn 18 you'll understand assuming you're not living on retard bucks from the government.>Why would you buy the game? because it's got multiplayer and pubstomping on faggots who are streaming is always a great time, especially because i play "dirt off your shoulder" by jay-z as i kill them.>How is the game?it's ok, michael needs a bit of buffing unless i'm just not a high enough level that i can be op. between the other asymmetrical slasher games that illfonic has made that i've played (f13 & tcm) i'd rank it the lowest but with some balancing it could very easily rise to the top. f13 i think had the best with cooperative play among the survivors, tcm was more of an isolation thing (fully intentional and very well executed) and halloween is in this weird mix of the two where you can easily solo play but also get more points by helping others out. i do think setting it to just the original film is a bit of a mistake unless they plan to create additional original material to pad things out, but they could at the very least include halloween 2 as well. copyrights and trademarks are such a bitch sometimes.

I ended up liking picrel a lot more than Buddy.Obviously they were going for very different things besides the general theme of "corrupted children's show," but the adjacency of their releases warrants comment.Anyone else see it?
>>223151048Not yet, anon. I will watch at home
>>223151160I will warn you it's a lot slower and less funny than Buddy. I liked the ending more though.
>>223151266>FunnyNta but funny should not be a word in horror
>>223151048I liked Buddy a lot, so I'll have to see this one. The best thing about Buddy was the effort put into the sets and general late 80s/early 90s TV aesthetic
>>223151286I agree
>>223139564He used to be a good filmmaker. So was Adam Wingard. The bigger their budgets got, the worse their projects became.Guess it's true what they say.
>Wow, the horror movie was so funny!
>>223151580This really shows the 80’s was such a stain in horror as it was when horror-comedy became a thing.
>>223151286>>223151441I think it depends, but I only said it so as to not mislead anyone on what to expect when comparing it to Buddy, which I believe was trying to be funny most of the time.>>223151322Monkey's is less Barney and more Mr. Rogers, which I liked.
>>223151580I've noticed that the "horror comedy" label seems to be misapplied frequently to movies that aren't trying to be overtly comedic but have retrospectively come off as corny.Herbert West Reanimator is a good example. It gets billed as a horror comedy now, but that's not at all how it was advertised on release, and I don't find any of it particularly funny.
>>223144261I'll check it out, thanks
>>223151689There is that entire goofy 80’s vibe going on
>>223151705I feel like that's been applied retroactively, though. Look at the contemporary reviews and advertisement for the film and you'll see they focus far less on the comedic aspects.
>>223151689Both the movie and the short story it was based on were comedic. It was understood at the time that horror and dark humor go together.
>>223143251That shit was horrifying to me. The whole intro. The phone calls building up to the boyfriend gutted by the pool. Drew calling for her parents through a crushed windpipe. The parents hearing the final words of their dying daughter over the phone. Them discovering her *hanging, gutted. And that goddamn *uncanny prop gave me the willies for months.
>>223140023i've seen her cunt
>>223151723Right, I get what you’re saying. But now, it seems like every movie from the 80’s had the 80’s vibe and the 80’s vibe is goofy. This applies to action movies too.
>>223151727>the short story it was based on were comedicThis is emphatically not true. At best you could call it a grotesque parody of Frankenstein and the derivative mad scientist weird tales, but it wasn't trying to be much of anything besides another $5 in Lovecraft's till per chapter. Home Brew was a comedy AND horror magazine, so it's slightly more irreverent, but it's not "haha" funny at all.Not that it's particularly serious, either.
>>223141528>>223140431i too am surprised theres not a shitload more. as far as schlock goes, that is prime pickins
>>223151689most 80s horror films are like thisthe acting is so bad it comes off as hilarious even if unintentionallyevil dead is one of the few franchises to embrace the comedic side and make it an intentional addition until recent entries went back to a more serious take
I watched the Tetsuo movies and some videos about the whole japanese cyberpunk movement, and I found it interesting how a movie about a school shooter kickstarted everythingIt's not horror, but I'll give it a watch
>>223149949The 1st Demonic Toys is good. The sequels are pretty bad. Dollman is also really good, but Dollman vs Demonic Toys seemed like just a quick cash grab and has long scenes that just drag to fill time. Puppet Master vs Demonic Toys is the only other one I thought was okay.

>>223152493It's a crying shame they're not getting Taissa this season. Denis O'Hare won't be in it either, which is baffling. They've got nearly the whole gang back together.
>>223152419American Horror Story was fairly good through the first four seasons (Murder House, Asylum, Coven, and Freak Show.)I'd say Asylum was my favorite. Coven was the most "womanly" of them, but the interactions were good, so I forgave it.Hotel repulsed me so much that I dropped it. Watched Roanoke, but it made me roll my eyes constantly and decided to ignore the rest. One of these threads talked me into trying 1984, but I got bored of it about two or so episodes in.
>>223149684Yeah, that whole "I'll play Marguerite for you" bit refers to the character Faust was hot for.
>>223151942>these were high schoolers in 1978
>>223152639It's certainly nowhere near as good as it used to be, and not everyone enjoys Murphy's brand of weirdness. The season that premiers on the 24th is going to have many of the main cast reprising several of their previous roles, including Jessica Lange playing all four the roles she had in the first four seasons. I'm expecting it to be absurd and fun.

Alpha (coming 2027)>After a string of great white attacks threatens a quiet surfing beach town, killer whales are enlisted to drive the sharks out. But when the alpha great white proves too powerful to stop, a former local surfing legend (Henderson) and a retired orca trainer (Vega) make one last, terrifying move: unleash the most dangerous killer whale ever known.Who you got? Great white or killer whale?
>>223152601So Taissa didn't end up doing the new season after all? Damn, what an absolute shame… she's great every other season she shows up in.>>223152796Kek same. Maybe mods will actually do something this October

>>223150221>chinese slop is highly rated but it's actually shitThat sums up just about everything that country shits out.
>>223152871Dumb movie premise. There's no such thing as an "alpha" great white. Great whites are solitary predators."Alpha" only ever applied to wolves and only ever to wolves in captivity.Orcas wipe the floor with great whites every time. Great whites will abandon favourite hunting grounds for years if orcas are known to be in the area. There is literally nothing in the ocean that can challenge a pod of orcas. A few animals such as a pod of sperm or humpback whales can form a defensive circle and defend themselves long enough for the orcas to get bored and abandon the hunt but they won't ever threaten the orcas. A single great white has zero chance.

>>223153073Here's a cool vid I watched recently you might enjoy.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VtrcKTkhDHUAs for how would we know, I guess because marine biologists are pretty good at their job and track orca populations and know what they're up to. Plus, humans have been interacting with orcas for thousands of years, if in all that time there's never been mention of one killing a person, you can pretty safely say it's not in their playbook to do. They instead do the exact opposite, aiding fishermen with catches and even trying to feed humans, vid related.
