>>223316979>I will bet it is even better than when it was releasedWhat's that supposed to mean?
>>223316999Okay, the thing is, series evolve, just like the characters of Jason and Freddy did, and the series themselves evolved as well. FF13 part 1 and 2 were legit slasher standalone movies. >>223317013Aged well. Many movies were mediocre or poor when it came out but actually good today.
>>223317144Yeah, like Feardotcom and the Howling series.
>>223317144>series evolveFew evolve. Most start with a big hit and then have a bunch of low rate sequels. Hellraiser is very much that kind of series, and 3 is not a higher form of Hellraiser by any stretch. It's just dumb.

Ti West is alright but I think The House of the Devil is the best thing he's done and everything else is has been a downgrade. Osgood Perkins, well I've only seen Longlegs but I thought that was decent.

Just finished. I expected to type just "cute and wholesome spooks" but this movie shoehorned in some woke shit that just stuck in my craw and wouldn't go away. 1 is the big obvious one, which is they make a gag about a lesbian wedding and then the lesbians keep popping up in their wedding dresses. They're background, unnamed characters, but it is just so pointless and egregious in a movie like this that it wouldn't leave my head. 2 was making the love interest a black woman. Normally this wouldn't even bother me, but this is a stop motion movie and every little detail has to be decided on and added intentionally; and here they made special effort to make her have little greying dreadlocks with beads and doodads on them. It's just such a specific, "LOOK, I'M BLACK" detail and they even went through the trouble of animating them wiggling around, they by definition can't be an afterthought. And these two completely insignificant things put such an ugly aftertaste in my mouth that I felt like the movie would've provoked me much more deeply if it had the freedom to and wasn't intended for toddlers so young that the movie doesn't even have dialogue. Also this plot is as thin as plots can get. I haven't seen Curse of the Were-Rabbit in years and years but I think this was just a retread.>>223317795don't worry, I sincerely doubt that that's actually a woman.
Dubs and I finally watch this. I like goofy horror movies but this always seemed like it would be fucking annoying for some reason.
>>223317771I watched Beau Is Afraid, and while I was somewhat amused, I could no longer take Aster seriously.
>>223317898It's a really annoying movie, it's pretty much just a shitty student horror film but is a big name directors early work, so people jerk off over it.
>>223317571>near-the-end-of-October watchlistIt wasn't bad. Solid kid Halloween fun movie. If you're into some of the RL Stine, Are You Afraid of the Dark, Disney classic Halloween stuff, you'll probably enjoy it.

Is there any other 70s kino that's like Dawn of the Dead? Or is good stuff with that vibe from the era pretty rare? As in American suburban horror that takes place in cities or large communal areas like a shopping mall.

>>223319244oh sorry 70s kino, Night of the Comet hits the mall thing but not the exact aesthetic.Invasion of the Body Snatchers is one, though not a typical zombie film.Let Sleeping Corpses Lie is a zombie film that came out the same year, it's small town Britain though.
>>223319288The director also did Night of the Creeps, which is another fun movie.Sadly Monster Squad kinda tanked, and then he did Robocop 3, and it was fucking over for him.

>>223319314>Let Sleeping Corpses LieAnother good one that I've seen. I guess it's a more niche kind of genre/vibe than I thought and maybe apocalyptic movies weren't quite as popular as slashers the 70s.

>>223319244Zombi 2Most of it takes place on a tropical island though
>>223319343Best part is the ending, where they put zombies on a major bridge, but couldn't shut it down for filming since it was just a low budget movie, so there's ample traffic both leaving the city as well as going in.

I watched a movie called The Hard Way which was a forgettable comedy and the scenes in rundown NYC were incredible.Watch New York Ninja, if you haven't. The film itself isn't as great as people like to pretend, but the pristine footage from 1984 NYC is gold.
>>223319477Combat Shock is the ultimate in that, one of my fav films too.
>>223319548>The film itself isn't as great as people like to pretend, but the pristine footage from 1984 NYC is gold.I find myself watching a lot of mediocre movies for that reason lately, like I'm just watching for the vibe rather than the plot.
>>223319502This movie didn't just use AI, it was AI. The whole thing. It looked atrocious.
>>223319533Sweet HomeDoorVillage of DoomTetsuo the Iron Man
>>223319560>This movie didn't just use AI, it was AI. The whole thing. i sincerely hope not. the whole thing looked like shit, but i just figured that was roth just making ugly shit as usual.
>>223319553Awesome movie.
>>223319392No, the situation was pretty fucked.https://youtu.be/BlnuNjrSDRE?si=61T2YGMHCj4MF77lWould you not consider turning around and cancelling that trip into the city for a Broadway show when the radio host you're listening to gets ripped into by the horde on the air?
>>223319548>New York Ninja was shot in 1984, but was not completed until 2021, when its footage was discovered and restored by the film preservation and home video distributor Vinegar Syndromedamn that's a cool backstory
>>223319548>New York Ninjathis sounds like absolute kino, i love old or incomplete films being found
>>223319568Not Ice Cream Man, this Norton Creek Massacre bullshit. It was 100% AI generated.
>>223319343Finally watchviewed that film last night and I have to say, it was a lot of fun. I had put off watching it for a while because whenever I went to search for it, I had to review the various regional titles of the film, and that 10-15 seconds of searching was sufficient to deter me from bothering with the movie over something else that I had in the chamber and ready to watch. And yes, I know that's completely retarded.
>>223319414Another one with a great credits song.https://youtu.be/ZyRmjkGAdYo?si=uJDW47IgSG6YRZ2g
>>223319548NYN is kino, though.best movie edited together without a script and given a soundtrack 40 years after it was shot that I've seen, at least
>>223319584Huh I was gonna say this ending makes no sense, but apparently Calvary Cemetery in Queens is the largest cemetery in the US. 3 million graves, that's a lot of zombies.
>>223319600>Estimated budget: $10I'm gonna guess you're right
>>223319444Basket Case is another good one for old NYC filth.>>223319477I watched The Hard Way on a whim since a Michael J. Fox movie that I hadn't seen yet was enough of a novelty in itself. Breddy gud.
>>223319244poltergeist(80s not 70s) is essentially horror movie set in the 'burbs
>>223319649>I watched The Hard Way on a whim since a Michael J. Fox movie that I hadn't seen yet was enough of a novelty in itself. Breddy gud.Same, I found it in a thread about "movies people forgot existed" and Michael J Fox and James Woods made me check it out. It was actually pretty alright, it wasn't great, but it had soul and I wouldn't have minded it being a bit longer or having a sequel.
>>223319477>>223319649Wow, that's a HARD poster.
>>223319444Not horror in any way, but this tense thriller is a prime 70s NYC scenery.
>>223319401Yes. I get these two confused but Shivers yeah. Maybe I should watch Rabid now since I haven't yet...they are really a lot alike. Sequel without being named as such maybe?Man what the fuck, Stereo and Crimes Of The Future use the same poster...Cronenberg really IS a madman...
>>223319560>This movie didn't just use AI,it was AI. The whole thing
>>223319584>that really low grade film quality>all practical effects>that really early synth musicUnfathomable amounts of soul.I know it's not a horror but I love watching The Blues Brothers for this reason, it had Chicago looking peak grimy and the start of the movie is just scenes of all the burning oil stacks across the industrial area and the later car chases being in all those old alleyways under the trains.
>>223319701>Man what the fuck, Stereo and Crimes Of The Future use the same poster...Cronenberg really IS a madman...You man this? It was the DVD cover for a release including both of them.
>>223319738Ah, I punched up the wikipedia pages and this was on both pages. My bad. Cronenberg is still a mad genius however. Obviously. Haha, eXistenz or whatever? He did Videodrome as wellm, yeah? Thats gotta be his most well-loved work. Also I won't forget his part in Nightbreed.
>>223319701>>223319738Crimes of the Future itself had this as a theatrical poster. Not sure if Stereo even ever had one, apart from revisionist ones.
>>223319548>>223319718I'm a photofag and I've been getting into film photography for this reason. It's expensive as fuck developing just a single roll, but the look is completely different to digital.
Just finished. Don Glut was some random kid in Chicago during the 1950s who got a hand me down 8mm camera and started making dozens of monster movies for the pure fun of making them. Stuff like "I Was a Teenage Apeman" and "Slave of the Vampire". He sent in stills of his movies to Famous Monsters of Filmland, which led to him becoming friends with Forry Ackerman and Bob Burns, which led him to moving to LA and going to USC, which led to him being roommates with George Lucas and writing the novelization of Empire Strikes Back. This is a not very good documentary directed by him about those monster movies, but it IS a great story despite being poorly filmed, an inspiring one even. His movies were objectively goofy crap, but his enthusiasm and passion and seemingly compulsive willingness to be inventive and hard-working got him far in life.
>>223319959He wrote awesome comics.
>>223319969according to the doc, there were professors who would grade his projects badly despite them being more accomplished than his classmates' simply because they were about superheroes and told him so. He even had to redo a year at USC because he got a D on his final because it was about Superman.
>>223317662Why put ti west when you could put Damian McCarthyCaveat, Oddity and hokum mog most of the films on that list
>>223319981based college professoryou shouldn't be writing about super duper heroes as an adult man in collegeyou should be learning math and sciences and humanities and some of the early precursors to tradecraft and the occult/society
>>223319969>a night of living bones!lol, there was probably a better way to phrase this
>>223319995He's not American like those in the picture.
>>223320012if his professor had been more supportive Don would probably be the biggest name in Hollywood today. He was trying to buy the film rights to Spider-man before the 60s had even ended, and if you've been paying attention, you may have noticed that a Spider-man movie just became the highest grossing film domestically of all time.
What happens when the gas runs out, leaving them stranded somewhere with no humans to do their bidding?
>>223320431forget it manthose things are basically fueled by random lightning strikes by that pointlife uh... finds a way
>The bit with Tess getting ready for bed originally included a shower sequence that was framed with nods to the negative space in Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho. Early screenings showed almost unanimous dismissal from female viewers, saying that she would never, ever take a shower in this situation.women need to be banned from test screenings
>>223320470Test screenings shouldn't be a thing period.Make the art that you want to make how you want to make it, who gives a fuck what anyone else thinks? Maybe show it to a few people whose opinions you trust and value and get their feedback, but certainly not the general public or "focus groups".Test screenings only exist in a world where art isn't made for art's sake but for making as much money as possible.
>>223320431I forgot to give this a watch this past Summer. It's a great Summer break horror movie.

>>223321600>wanting to watch AI slop in 4Klol
>>223321631>NOOOO not AICGI is no different. So you refuse to watch 99.99% of all movies released the past 30 years? Even the ones you like have CGI in them and you just don't know it. I always love the selective outrage of you hypocritical retards.
>>223321658CGI is made by humans.
>>223321600hell yeah, finally it's time for my Camp Miasma/Ice Cream Man double feature.
>>223321663Who cares? You want to do some "hurr durr it's taking jobs" moral bullshit? That's also selective outrage. Just admit you're a hypocrite and are just going along with the AI hate because it's trendy and popular. You can't give one actual sound argument that isn't hypocritical or spoon fed to you as to why using AI is wrong.

>>223321908They're definitely less rampant than when I was a kid but I think that has more to do with dietary comprehension, loose change becoming less of a thing and changing consumer trends. There's one that goes around my neighborhood every once in awhile over the summer, but it's some weird zillenial startup colored pink with a loud jbl speaker, and you can request them to visit your neighborhood any time via an app. It's stupid.>>223321959This "movie" is fucking horrendous and I cannot belie the fucks who mod tmdb allow it on their platform considering so much of the stuff they deem unacceptable
>>223321658This. These idiots have no idea how much shit they're already watching that has AI touchups that they don't even know about. Cronenberg's already admitted to it and I don't think anybody would've even noticed otherwise.
