Just got out a late-night Dolby screening of the new Resident Evil. On first impression, I found it to be a very straightforward adaptation that held no punches in any regard which was greatly appreciated. Cutting straight into the action without any backstory or autistic lore dump was absolutely the right choice. The humor worked even if it was a bit cheesy, monster VFX looked great, and the tension was palpable in certain scenes. I thought it was not only better than RE 2002, but Weapons as well; it's surprising both films were edited by the same guy given Cregger could've easily added another 20-30min of padding and fucked the pacing like in Weapons.

I watched Village of the Damned 1995 yesterday. It was alright. The first half hour was really great, I'd say it's up there with some of Carpenter's best. Middle half was still pretty interesting as we got to see how the kids coordinate and kill, but the last third was dookie. Would have been cooler if they used more force against the kids and spared us of all their obnoxious dialogueI loved the setting and all those environmental shots though. Really nice looking movie.
