I enjoyed how even with how slow and telegraphed all the Gorn's swipes were, it still caught Kirk when he kicked him in the side, then pulled him close enough to bite his neck, which he just barely got out of. The Wile E Coyote gag from later on was also really funny, the whole episode makes Kirk look like such a jobber because it takes him so long to remember ancient Earth history about TNT's chemical composition. Remaking the mortar from the start of the episode on Cestus-III was such a cool connecting piece.
Speaking of Cestus-III, the scenes of Kirk doing all those flashy combat rolls through explosions whilst commanding Sulu through the battle with the unseen Gorn ship was edging very close to "over the top" (in a good way), and then Spock runs out all elbows and absolutely no finesse and brings it back down, only for his tricorder to overload and nearly blow up in his hands. I get that for the pacing Kirk could only fire off a single grenade to send the Gorn packing, but I would've liked to see a little more struggle here. Maybe it makes more sense when you consider the Gorn perspective, of trying to prevent invaders from getting a foothold in their hegemony and not wanting to risk unnecessary casualties when they're outmatched.
The Gorn costume was so great, the discoball eyes they give it, the super jacked legs, the funky tunic. Five stars.

Agreed. Not only did it manage to have some of the most entertaining evil Trek scenes but it also had the best morality play message of any of MU episode. Despite not being MU. Enterprise's MU two parter is also incredible but it didn't have the thematic content to lift it to the same level as Living Witness. DS9's mirror universe episodes...are hit and miss mostly. It's just melodrama and usually not good melodrama. However they were nice for expanding setting lore.
