Since they had the method already exacted, doing a rescan of DS9 and VOY would have been much faster and cheaper even with the added issue of CGI. However Paramount in all their wisdom decided to fire the entire studio and sell off the film scanning machines. The TNG blu-rays didn't sell great but since then streaming has obviously made the investment well worth it. Very short sighted maneuver by Paramount. Expect to get horrible AI upscales in the future.

It's weird because its not clear what color scheme the LDs and DVDs really are, everyone just senses they are fucked up but I think the DS9:R people are correct that it's best to assume it's 470m and convert and tweak from there.

>>223464852DS9:R isn't on any torrent sites right now. They haven't put out one full episode so far. The best and I think only full set of laserdisc upscales for ds9 and voy is from LDTV720. He mostly used the DS9:R workflow but in his recent revision of DS9 he did something weird with the colors. He also seemed to prioritize denoising over preserving detail. He's a G for syncing all the surround sound DVD audio with the LD though.

Really plumbs the depths of Kirk's character in the face of overwhelming adversity, crafts a great career relationship between him and Finney (the man he's accused of killing), and pulls off an incredible third act twist when Cogley (based on Spock's testimony over the computer's faultiness) puts forth the idea that Finney has been alive all along. It's incredible, just how far the guy is over the edge to fake his own death just to see Kirk suffer. He was willing to leave his daughter behind! And later when the charade is undone, he was willing to crash the entire Enterprise, only changing his mind when the daughter he was about to abandon is revealed to be onboard! Not so much an incongruity as it is putting a spotlight on his instability. It's helped by Richard Webb' putting on his Captain Midnight voice and looking just like Willem Dafoe, absolutely perfect casting.It's no wonder everything was so well done, considering this was written by Mank, the guy who cowrote Citizen Kane with Orson Welles. I thought Cogley's speech about "the rights of men over machines" was a touch over the top, but it being a Mank original makes it seem restrained in hindsight.The only truly awkward part was the quick transition from the beaten Finney to the interior of the Jeffries Tube with only Kirk's narration to explain the scene change. I thought Jame being back onboard already was a bluff by him, but apparently they shot the scene where she rushes in and Ben has his change of heart but it was cut for time. I'd love to see it if it's online anywhere.
