Using Bajoran tools. The others only kept one Federation starship going, using Federation personnel, Federation materials, using Federation techniques and manuals. It's very easy to use a PS5 game made by Sony on a PS5 that's connected to a Sony TV, its an entirely different thing to play a Nintendo Switch game on a Sega Dreamcast connected to theater projector.

LD anon here. After seeing how the Crossover episode looked, I made some tweaks to my color conversion and also moved the conversion to after the upscaling. Things look a lot better in dark environments and light skin doesn't look like it's blooming as much as it did before. >>223486762Realistically, an engineer like O'Brien or a doctor like any of Star Trek's doctors is pretty much impossible. You'd never be able to have a single human being encapsulate so much knowledge across multiple kinds of technology/physiology. The medical side in particular. Imagine going to some distress call of some alien group you've never even heard of and you've got to try to save a bunch of lives in a triage situation and you know nothing about their internal anatomy. Some allowances have to be made for storytelling because the reality of being unable to do anything, or having a bunch of ships sitting around in orbit of DS9 waiting on native mechanics to arrive and fix them, is way more boring and way harder to fit into 47 minute bites.
>>223486762O'Brien was a fucking hack who got exiled beyond the borders of the federation after somehow turning the captain into a child. Didn't disintegrate him or beam him into a bulkhead like a normal transporter accident that could be explained away as a common malfunction but turned him into a child through gross incompetence. And he always rolls up the sleeves of his uniform even when he's at quark's or in the privacy of his own quarters as if he's the ultimate working man which just makes him look like a tryhard poser. Nevermind his stupid potato shaped head and the accent that the universal translator should have flagged as non English speech. I hate him so much.

>>223488454>about 30 good ones>Is he right?Yes, but the trick is getting people to agree on which the 30 good ones are. It's part of what I miss about the 20+ episode shows of olde tyme teevee, the pressure to put out material led to a lot of taking chances and forcing bottle episodes focusing on some character problem or dilemma. Now that they got 10x the budget for effects it's all in service of stories that are worse than the phone it in scripts of olde teevee.

>>223495064>that was hisThat is not how directing episodes worked on Star Trek. If you were a director and you were going to direct an episode, you directed whatever script Berman and Piller chose for that week, no matter what the episode was. Paramount at the time had an assembly line approach to directing -- they had the in-house course where they would teach people how to do it and then if they were good enough, they'd be added to the roster of rotating house directs, guys like Winrich Kolbe, etcFrakes did a good job directing his episodes but he also got lucky with some good episodes while others got very unlucky.

Also? Frakes is just a stand up guy, EVERYBODY likes him and got along with him so they took a chance and let him try. Turns out he learned quite well and he could bring it all in on time and on budget. The downside was that everybody else on the cast suddenly wanted to direct too and the producers felt like they had to placate them.

>>223496504Your prompt has sent my mind spinning to make an outline for what an episode of TOS where a newly recruited Yeoman goes missing on the same day she was going to transfer to the Enterprise, and Kirk butts heads with the Starbase's Flag Officer over jurisdiction, and a deeper secret about the Complex, something that'll take months of brainstorming to mold into a final satisfactory form. But to give an answer right now, if it just happened during a random unrelated mission where it wasn't central to the plot: they'd do some normal investigations, find the entire situation to be anomalous but not unexplainable, use some basic telemetries to triangulate the away team's positions, and mount a search and rescue with a tether to lead back (ala Theseus & the Golden Thread). No matter what, the moment communications are cut off, they'd notice the absence and immediately set about finding out the issue, which means: if it's a Threshold, then what I said happens happens, and it happens quickly since they won't be too far from the Threshold; if it's an actual Noclip, then they're unrecoverable because those tend to close up behind people. They'd spend hours looking for the missing men because Kirk would say something like "I refuse to believe a person can vanish into mid-air and not show up someplace else" and they'd eventually have to give up on it, making for a bad episode.

There is the universal language of math and so with technology, there is at least something of a very, very generic foundation but their technology could be entirely composed of resources which don't exist on our world, and their bodies might be of such alien design that being able to, on the spot, work some miracle would be largely impossible.I kind of agree with Stephen Hawking that alien life would be so alien to us that it would be borderline incomprehensible.

And they had to know they were in the same noose as the Cardassians for the attempted strike on the Founder's homeworld. Then JJ came along and ruined them anyways.
>>223501791>>223501875I noticed the same thing at some point, but I couldn't be sure if it was on purpose or not. Shame to learn it (hypothetically) amounts to nothing.>>223501767Ricardo truly is in excellent form here. He plays the role perfectly from the first words he speaks being to ask "How long" has his crew been in suspended animation. His supergenius lets the writers really push how far they can go with him as a threat, his only undoing being the one person he considered so deftly wrapped around his finger that he never suspected she'd change her mind again. McGivers lacking decorum and wavering will provided the perfect way for both the day and her character to be saved. While the mental battles between Khan and Kirk or Khan and Spock were impressive, it was that first stonewalling Bones gave him even with his life under threat that really engaged me. DeForest was so impactful in that scene, it had me adjust my view of the character a little. Not in a way I can put into words. As for how important the Eugenics Wars were to the franchise, I'll have to wait for the next debate to pop up before I can take sides. From here, it does seem like an entire era of the 90s turmoil was just Khan and others like him expanding their influence before the rest of humanity managed to oust them all. Then again, the most negative thoughts on controlled breeding we get are when Bones makes his usual back-handed comments at Spock, so who knows what the real thoughts were here (in-universe. Out of universe, it definitely reads as "don't do eugenics, but don't kill the victims of it", as even-handed a moral as you can get with this subject matter).
>>223503535>And they had to know they were in the same noose as the Cardassians for the attempted strike on the Founder's homeworld.Funny enough, I don't think they really were. The female Founder never shows the same vitriol towards Romulans that she holds for Cardassians. My belief is that the Romulan side of the attack was entirely influenced by the Founders and as such they aren't considered to blame for it. It's a bit more fair than we usually see from the changelings, but I feel like it gives some depth to their mindset.

Very friendly reminder that Dukat is the most classically handsome character in DS9
>>223504689A Bajoran Solar Ship! Ha Ha !
I just started watching ENT so I just can't get over this choice of music for the intro. It makes me think I'm about to watch some sentimental family drama set in a small town, not science fiction.
>>223505062the music is fitting. you'll soon learn that.
>>223505125Is it because everyone is as bland and out of place as the music, with the possible exception of Dr. Phlox?
>>223505062Don't listen to that other guy. The music always feels out of place and terrible as much as Rick Berman tries to Seventh Heaven-ize the series.

>>223505062ent's theme song is the main reason i didn't watch the show
>>223505062The intro music describes the underlying theme of the show. The NX-01 is powered by the first Warp5 engine, engineered and initially built by Archer's father. It represents Earth's first opportunity to travel into deep space in a reasonable amount of time. It also speaks to the theme of the Vulcans holding humans back from their journey into deep space by interfering with their progress, and Archer's faith in his late father's work to overcome the obstacles they put in his way.

finally watched lower decks. it's really good. the sillyness and ironic references actually work in a cartoon (vs in something live action like snw) and it feels like its written by people who actually like star trek.
finally watched lower decks. it's really shit. the sillyness and ironic references actually don't work at all in a cartoon (or in something live action like snw) and it feels like its written by retards who actually dont understand star trek.

>>223503411Checked.
>>223502189The Galaxy doesn't even scale with the Miranda on the upper right.
>>223502189The interior scale is way off too. It's a massive space station that should house tens of thousands of people yet it's run by a Commander to begin with and a tiny crew and only has a tiny little bar run by a space jew with a cupboard sized holodeck. Even if 90% of the space was dedicated to ore processing or docks, that still leaves multiple starship sized areas for housing. Galaxy class is over 600 m long and Romulan warbird is around 1 km long for context. The landing pad barely larger than the runabout always made me kek, at least TNG got it right with the gigantic hanger bays.
>>223494854It depends on the context. I imagine a Vulcan farmer would have a large family for the same reason a human farmer would. Though, IIRC there are somewhere between three to ten humans for every Vulcan so maybe they think they don't need to propagate too much when they can just send the rest of the Federation to do something dangerous and unpleasant.

>>223506884Why were the good films so good, and the bad films SO bad?
>>223496585Star Wars is very, very different from Trek, it’s an action-adventure pulp setting where good guys are good and bad guys are bad in a shitty used future.with space monks. I love Star Wars but having Space in its name is the only thing it shares with Star Trek.> I'd hate to have to learn a whole bunc hfo new fake science.Technobabble is kept to a minimum and isn’t important. It has space magi but even that is vague and unexplained.Star Wars has more in common with Captain Proton than Star Trek.
>>223499185Neat.
>>223497229As the host of the new game show, "Trivial Pursuit" he does what is obviously purposeful, and complete imitation of Alex Trebeck from Jeopardy, copying him all the way down to his speech patterns and physical mannerisms.

>>223487822>imagineA WHOLE CREW
>>223507945>The interior scale is way off too.Hey, the scale of it was telegraphed from the outset by this central part which 99% of the show is set in. You can complain about the scale of the ships that dock with the station being off but the curvature of the promenade set dictates the scale of the station interior as it relates to the exterior
Would you agree with me if I said Shatner and Nimoy would make a kino Hal Jordan and Sinestro?
>>223512275TV execs at the time were concerned Spock's Vulcan appearance would be interpreted as demonic so if you're thinking of him as Sinestro, they'd agree with you, at least
>>223512051This show was more destructive to Star Trek than Discovery, Picard, Section 31 and Strange New Worlds combined. I'm glad Ellison is putting the franchise out to pastures because judging by the current state of Star Trek cons, it would just be gay brony shit forever.
>>223511308I earnestly believe Star Wars is much more heady. The entire second iteration was entirely wrapped up in politics anon. And in a way that genuinely inspires rebellion in people. It moves the needle in the complete opposite direction. What it does have to say is moving though. Star Trek doesn’t actually have a moral core or message outside the original series. The message of TNG is immoral. Picard is a bad man, Sisko is a bad man, and well…. Janeway is a woman. Star Trek inspires people to work in science and that’s great but it doesn’t actually seem to make anyone question themselves or inspire change in them. If anything the evidence shows it makes people degenerate (verb)
>>223512355This is poor bait.
Is Shatner's "sabatage" pronunciation canonical in Star Trek? I'm watching DS9 and I swear I just heard Quark and Garak say it that way.
>>223512377Baiting used to be a real profession that people took pride in. Now it's all low effort swill. It still garners (You)s though, so there's that.
>>223512300Anon. Star Trek is a show from the sixties. If I don’t let TNG affect my opinion of it and I hate TNG I think you’ll be alright. I watched the first season on LD and it honestly never grabbed my attention. I’m so accustomed to ignoring anime content being posted in the wrong place on this website I honestly never was bothered. That image dictates a key point in /trek/ lore. The betrayal of the second war. Very SW prequel esq. I fought for their free speech and once they had it I was the enemy because discussion was never their aim. They wanted a volatile atmosphere by any means. Your ds9ers are your loders. Always were
>>223512377It’s no bait and most people share the opinion. Star Wars is much more popular and most people believe in right/wrong good/evil God/Devil. The capacity for damnedable sin and retribution
>>223512485LD posting was always about causing division.
>>223512477I’m a masterbaiter. That just isn’t bait. It genuine
>Sisko>gets a Klingon captain killed for (rightly) searching his girlfriends ship (she is a smuggler for the marquis>leaks the Klingon invasion plans to the Cardassians>starts a war with the Klingons in order to save Gul Dukat and the fascist government of Cardassia>publicly violates the cloaking device treaty with the Romulans in the processWhat the fuck was his problem? The Cardassians later join the Dominion anyway. The Klingons weren't even wrong about them. Why would Sisko risk everything over the Cardassians who are fascist slavers with no regard for any human rights? They are a blight on the galaxy and the Klingons did everyone a favor.
>>223512300Strange new worlds isn’t destructive. It’s a return to the formula of the original series. The only grounded critique apparently the language employed. No one batted an eye when Bones cursed Spock out with overt racism every day. Call someone “homeboy” and suddenly the self destruct sequence needs to be input stat. People complaining about the volume of silly episodes need to refer back to the source material. That critique is unfounded
>>223512742Well that settles it! I'm gonna start watching SNW right away!
>>223512742>Call someone “homeboy” and suddenly the self destruct sequence needs to be input statIs this a 4chan post or an exerpt from a Polygon article
>>223512742Another thing that sets the new Star Trek apart is the amazing cast of characters. From Michael Burnham to Saru to Pike, each of the new series has introduced us to a wide range of fascinating, multidimensional characters who we can't help but root for.Of course, the production values are also top-notch. The special effects, the set design, the music – everything comes together to create a truly immersive and cinematic experience.Overall, I think the new Star Trek series have done an incredible job of keeping the franchise relevant and exciting while also paying tribute to its rich history. I can't wait to see what they come up with next.
>>223512809When you finish s1 I will pick up s2 with you. That’s where I left off. We can discuss it here, where its discussion belongs. We should have plenty of time to be ready for the final season. I always said I’d save the rest for a solid binge after deciding I liked the first season. That’s the way trek is meant to be consumed. Fifty hour long episodes should be enough to get fully immersed in the world. I watch the TOS movies on loop maybe one or two a week now. That’s the state of my current trek. Waiting for SNW to end so I can actually watch it without waiting a year between episodes and losing investment
>>223512891I know discoveries proximity to SNW prisons it for you but ironically I did not view discovery as per your advisement so I’m unscathed in this regard
