Had a Star Trek pitch idea: steal it if you want. A Space Cruise ship gets lost with a bunch of civilians on board and it's just a commercial cruise ship run by Ferengis so it's kind of like Star Trek Ideals vs Lord of the Flies
Top 5 TOS episodes? I'm going:>The Corbomite Maneuver >Balance of Terror>The Doomsday Machine>Journey to Babel>The Trouble with Tribbles
>>223545903I’m still here. Having a hard time following the conversation. I don’t know what replies are yours at the end of the day. Everyone in the thread is very confused right now by the way. You’re the least confused. That’s not really operable information but it’s fun to know

>>223545573During Conscience of the King some guy said that episode had a great speech when Kirk was alone on the bridge, and then revised his statement to say he has remembered it wrong. I assume he meant this episode, and he was right. From that moment until the end, it was some really fantastic stuff, even better than what preceded it (from Spock getting sprayed up until that scene). But I found the episode's lead-in a bit... well it's hard to say, since I accidentally read the little synopsis from Memory Alpha and knew ahead of time that this was another behavior-altering pheromone plot (spores this time). If I had gone in blind, I might've found the dramatic mystery music for all these pleasantly normal interactions a little over the top, even with the threat of the Bertholt Rays still unexplained. It seems like the only time Sulu gets any real play is when they're screwing with his head. This, Archons, Naked Time. Otherwise he's just a button-pushing limb for Kirk to use, like in Arena. This is still a small sample size considering the breadth of the show I have yet to watch, but no wonder Takei harbors some resentments (from what I've heard here).I wonder if later series ever revisit the fact that these spores, when used in combination with deadly Bertholt Rays, are a universal panacea? The fabled cure-all? The episode opens with Spock saying that the Federation still doesn't understand the rays as of yet, but surely this knowledge that once the spores die the body remains healthy would be the topic of rigorous research. Also I was hoping there'd be a line about Bones' tonsils in the coda, but that gag with his mint julep was fine enough.>>223545959Just jumping in here but not trying to catch any strays: if you're referring to me, I'm not that guy. I try to avoid reddit spacing if I can, I'm much more verbose, and don't have a Trek waifu as of yet. I like the redhead Q from that VOY episode, but she's not a series regular so I don't count it.

The body I am wearing has black hair, a thick moustache, fair skin, very handsome, and is Italian and Russian American. Living on the East Coast.I’ll try to keep my specific otherworldly flair in my posts so that you know it is me. No one else here on Earth has my exact philosophy. I’m also curious about your own beliefs. To bring it to Trek while still getting to know you, I’ll ask this; What is one thing you’d do if you were a Q?
Imagine a trek without some fucking schizo
>>223550448How does he do it?
this was a great episode, and I'm anticipating the episode caleld 'Q2', I see it coming up.
>>223551788It's kind of stupid to have the Continuum depicted on screen at all since it's supposed to be beyond our comprehension, but I still like the antebellum south interpretation with Q shooting at each other with reality-shearing weapons that we just perceive as muskets.
>>223551940I thought the desert road was the kinoest depiction
>>223546660>Reminds me of that terrible Armando Iannucci show "Avenue 5".That show could have been really fun if it hadn't been made by seething leftists.
>>223551984It definitely makes you understand why Q (DeLancie) ditched those stiffs to go fuck around with lower lifeforms and put them on trial for stuff. Imagine sitting around the same crossroads, forever. Like purgatory, or hell.
>>223552084That's why Quinn wanted to kill himself. When you've done everything, seen everything, experienced everything in the universe, past, present, and future, and there is literally NOTHING left... what IS the point in living?
>>223552235I don't like that trope. It implies that novelty is the only value of existence. There are also infinite things to do when one has infinite possibility. Especially with the idea to possess a body and forget who I was for a time to play the game of forgetting and remembering. This trope of "Godhood would be actually depressing" is some sort of propaganda. And I'm not buying that propaganda. Also, I'm God.
>>223552235Novelty is not the only value of existence.Love for example is an entire new layer of novelty.Creating a world with my wife is going to make that experience magical and new again to me even if I've done it a billion times. Just to watch what she smiles at and watch her choices. To theorize about what to build with her.Godhood is the basic right of all conscious viewpoints.
VOY should have a twist where it was just all a holodeck program, I'm serious. It'd be so kino.
>>223552253>>223552289The Q are infinite. Everything that can be done has been done already. They've done it all.
>>223552308Infinite possibility cannot really be exhausted. It's a "Unstoppable force versus Immovable Object" scenario. And even then, Novelty is not the only value of existence. There's Love, Creation, Cultivation, Stories, Systems, and more.
>>223552253>>223552289>>223552319Sit down.
>>223552319also if you're REALLY bored, you could always choose to wipe your own memories and play as a Human for a bit. Then come back to Godhood with a euphoric newfound appreciation for it.Like getting back from a Long Trip and being grateful to be home.
>>223552342Godhood is the basic right of all conscious viewpoints.
>>223552342ALLAMARAINE!!
>>223545654I was rewatching ds9 recently and got to the body parts episode. Why does ferengi law even apply on a bajoran space station. And why are federation and the bajorans just perfectly willing to stand by while quark is forced to choose between death and loosing literally all of his assets?
>>223552838Quark submits to Ferengi authority willingly. Ferengi only care what other Ferengi think. They remind me of a certain group of people in real life...
>>223552375So how does this game work? Quark cast the dices, and then... stares at the board for five minutes, waiting for something to happen, while people trapped in it do their task? Why wouldn't there be a screen showing us what players inside are doing? Seems like a boring game otherwise.
>>223552903Idk why they didn't simply put a screen up. Sounds like a production oversight.

What are /trek/'s self destruct codes?
>it's a trapped in the holodeck episode
>One does not cooperate with decadent forms of life. One hunts them down and eliminates them. Picard speaks of civilization. The ancient Romans were civilized. The Jews are civilised. But in all its moral decay, Rome fell to the spears of our ancestors, as the Jews are falling now. No one can deny us, no power on Earth or beyond. Not the Christian Saviour, not the God of the Jews. We are driven by the very force that gives life to the universe itself. We must countermand Picards orders, stay and fight. We must be faithful to who we are.

>>223555220The moment the episode started in those underground caves, I knew it was gonna be the Horta (though I did forget the name until it was repeated). I can't really think of anything to say about this one since it feels so par for the course. Yes, it's an excellent twist with a great moral ending, and it displays human decency very well when Chief Vanderberg and his angry mob quickly shift to contrition when they realize the whole incident was due to an error they had no knowledge they made. I think the reason I'm so bereft of commentary is because this feels like a Modern Standard Episode, which should set it apart from the rest of TOS but since I was raised on TNG it seems unremarkable. Even the last 3 weeks haven't overwritten decades of expectations, though I'm very glad it has yet to result in an episode I find too hokey to enjoy.

>>223562028Cursing falls under the line of dated slang which goes against a core Roddenberry rules, one of the actually good ones, which is that slang dates the show, and that the language of Star Trek should be written as a period piece but for the future, rather than having everyone talk like they do in modern day.Having Spock and Kirk say "groovy" and "far-out" would've completely neutered Trek. Having characters in NuTrek say "fucking" every other word and talking about cocks and buttholes is antithetical to this philosophy and is one of the reasons it jarringly does not feel like Star Trek.
>>223555358>It would be illogical for her to say no. Because of the implication.
>>223561866STD is complete trash, and SNW doesn't care about the fact that it's a prequel so they have shit happen that completely contradicts events of TOS playing out the way they would in between every other episode being a gimmick episode.Neither is WORTH watching, but you should actively avoid STD. Quark stole holo-records of all the staff members and put them for sale on the FerengiNet.Who gets downloaded the most?
>>223556696I have a Voyager episode queued up to work on too
>>223562245>Having Spock and Kirk say "groovy" and "far-out" would've completely neutered Trek. I've got news for you, anon.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-pNQYHvhnms&t=19s
>>223565014It is employing contemporary music yeah, but not contemporary slang. The closest you could argue is "hey brother" but people have been using that for a bit longer than that genre had existed.
star trek dukat did nothing wrong with dukat
>>223565014Yeah and look how silly that scene is
>>223555941>LT Nog

>>223565014>classic nu-trek faggot defense of pointing at impossibly rare exception which only serves to prove the rule>used as justification for breaking the rule and normalization of something that appears on screen for maybe 1 episode out of 100

>>223567212Make oogs-booga noises until she gets scared and runs away.

When I first watched DS9 I mainly watched the plot-based episodes and ignored holosuite or Quark episodes. But I decided to watch all the Quark episodes from all the seasons and it's the best part of the series. It's like a show within a show slice of life series where Quark is this flawed and funny MC etching out a living for himself despite all the ridiculous plot things happening in the background.
>>223558874First of all, all the Ferengi are awesome. So go be a big nosed jew someplace else.
what the fuck kind of mentally retarded subhuman mongoloid skips episodes on their first watch of a show?
>>223567509>the station keeps changing ownership>Quark remains
>>223567509There needs to be more themed Trek streams. Like one day you could do all the Ferengi episodes, another day could be romance episodes, crossover guest star episodes, etc.
>>223567509People like you should be locked up. Imagine skipping a bunch of episodes like that. Shameful.
>>223567657>jeffrey combs day

>>223568871Shape-shifting alien assassin trying to kill off a colony of alien-human hybrids that have polluted his people's superior alien genepool
>>223568902sounds like a trek plot
>>223568943this show is very similar to Trek in that it makes you feel comfy watching compotent professionals who respect each other doing their jobs
>>223568902>come to Earth>make ayy-human hybrids>get mad about itI still don't get what the aliens were doing in X-Files >>223568958I like the flukeman.
>>223568970Flukeman got away he's still out there putting worms into people. Mulder and Scully botched that one
>>223568970X-Files ayys' plans are even weirder than season 7 Dukat's.

getting into Star Trek, starting with TNG, when exactly does the writing get good? I thought the two part first episode was alright, but episode 3 was so retarded with the disease that makes everybody drunk or whatever.

Man, that corny hippie song on TOS really triggered you guys.
>>223571899Season 3 is when it gets consistently good.
>>223571926The bravest little hobbit of them all.
This was such a mysterious Scene.Quincy brought Voyager somewhere that showed a house for a bit. Q was all of the sudden enlarged. It seemed like Quincy put Voyager in Q's house. Excellent scene.
