Just finished. 100<100 #006.It's from the director of The Machine Girl and Zombie Ass and it's... a gender-swapped version of Hausu?! A boy band gets invited to a mysterious inn run by a pair of sexy sisters who want to turn them into mannequins and drink their tears. It has no budget so there isn't much in the way of Hausu style visual craziness, but it's way more competent than it has a right to be and demonstrates how important good direction is. Apparently edited together from a TV series. One of the sisters is the busty one from the live-action Prison School series and she's probably the only reason to watch.

Retarded kino. The best thing Wan has done since Saw.Reminded me a lot of Basketcase, along with other movies like The Suckling and Evil Dead TrapFor at least part of it, I kept thinking how much better it would be as a 70s giallo, shot on that older film stock with camera angles I could picture as I watched it, but it does come into its own aesthetically by the end. The jail/police station scene is great.

yesterday's spooktober movies:>Anything for Jacksonsolid 7/10, I really liked all of the performances and the setting, nothing any of the characters did throughout felt forced or unnatural.>We bury the dead7/10, I really wish they had lingered more with the original setting of just .. you know, burying the dead, but the rest of the movie is still good. The fucking tooth grinding noises from the zombies got to me immensely, fuck fuck fuck that. I liked watching Daisy again. Her character was off to a bad start, but eventually kinda grew on me throughout. today's first movie:the bay (2012)
just finished the legend of sleepy hollow (1980), following whichever anon posted about it a couple threads ago. it was fun, it’d been a long while since I had watched something that is legitimately stuck at VHS quality but it has a certain charm. the acting, writing, set pieces were pretty much a theater play. it was overall a nice day 4 pick for spooktober

>>223582349I think it's gonna be just ok, but as the image suggest I have heard it has great practical effects
>>223581518The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016) dir. André ØvredalExcellent and unexpected in many ways. Beautifully shot, tense throughout. strong first act, very strong second act, somewhat weak third act. with a very well handled ending.Witchcraft has long been the strongest metaphor for the danger of sexuality. And the hunt and destruction of witches is therefore a perfect metaphor for the effect that the patriarchy has on both men and women. This film is no exception yet it is subtle and nuanced. our main character is a man who is in a budding romance and must balance that with the obligations he has with his father after the death of his mother. The generational passing down of a business results in the generational passing down of tragedy, because his need to help his father succeed in life as a widower is indeed the killing blow, so to speak, of his relationship. Further struggled by the charm and effortlessness that his father has and the weakness and fear he must live with. Jane Doe is a beautiful specimen and the perfect catalyst the the destruction of the relationships on display, with the external appearance of the body practically immaculate, yet with some subtle hints something is wrong. only after looking deeper and deeper do you realize there is some ritualistic protection from danger, or perhaps metaphorically an emotional shield as a trauma response, lying quite literally just beneath the skin. Placed there by the people who were trying to prevent the danger in the first place. our parents teach us how to love, and their failures invisibly embed themselves in our relationshipsDefinitely worth a watch if you like occult style horror.

Just finished. 100<100 #007Some anon was going on and on about how this was the worst movie he'd ever seen and was worse than anything I'd seen too, and I knew that was bullshit so I needed to see it for myself.Yeah, it's not that bad. In fact, I was kind of impressed because it turns out it was written, shot, and directed by a 17 year old, and yeah it sucks, but it at least makes some sense and feels like it's mostly what he intended it to be.Which is, it really wants to be Euphoria but with a demon in the background. Technically I suppose this is horror, but 95% of it is crazy heightened teen drama, with people getting cancelled, pedophile teachers, sugar daddies, gay hookups, teen drug and alcohol use, sex tapes, sex traffickers, suicide, etc etc etc. Struck me as genuinely modern in that it was made by and stars actual teens and was shot on an iphone. As a matter of fact, this is this kid's second feature and he's not even 20, I think if he keeps it up at this level of coherence and self-assurance he'll be a name.

>>223582439Kill list (uk)
>>223583167the zombie chattering was one of the creepiest or eeriest parts of the movie to me, but then again I am really creeped out by damage to teeth et.c.i agree about the ending being retarded. the twist that her relationship was falling apart, and especially when she finds her husband was great though and elevated the movie a bit. I was just expecting a bland "she finds him but has to come to terms with that he's now one of the zombies and agressive and she has to put him down aww nooo". Really disliked the baby part as some kind of "there's still hope xDD life le finds a way" ..... you know what, no, the movie gets a 7/10, I retract my 8/10.
I feel dumb for even hoping this wasn't going to be trash.>>223583111Same. Complete fucking nonsense. Villainizes a guy for trying desperately to keep his baby alive, only for the mc to kill him and then later steal his baby lol.
Hey Sandy (Ai, ai, ai, ai)
>>223583306from what I understood the guy thought his wife and child were dead, and presumably through psychosis wanted to impregnate the mc who he forced to dress in his dead wife's attire and jewelry. I guess I could have missed something. in any case, the ending was dumb.
Movies from the 2000s still "feel" so recent, even though they’re 25 years oldBut every decade before had such a different vibe between them, 70s horror and 80s horror are like night and day
>>223583451it's all technology. a) obviously the look of movies changed as tech did decade by decade b) tech enabled fad culture to become a thing, allowing exploitation film to become a thing and playing a part in each decade developing its own identity.
anyone else get memed into watching this because so many people, including stanley kubrick, called it the scariest movie of all time? it was good but not scary in the least.
>>223583510lol'ing at ur life
>>223583354Tbh it's been a long time since I saw it, but I assumed he had been keeping his pregnant wife alive (despite her zombie status) in the hopes that the baby would be ok. I thought he was just dressing her up because he missed his wife and was driven mad with loneliness, which is a but nuts but it's not like he tried to rape her or anything. In fact, he made no violent or aggressive action towards her at all, from what I remember, and she just randomly attacks him which leads to his death. Felt weird and uncalled for, especially considering she takes his baby at the end to raise as her own. Like what.
>>223583672>it's not like he tried to rape heranon, I'd recommend rewatching the scene kek, he forced her to dance with him, and basically held her against him and sniffed her neck (his wife's perfume), and once she said they had danced for 1 song and wanted to stop he came at her, at which point she bashed his head once and tried to escape.

Bunker (2022)Feels so much like an elaboration on Deathwatch I was surprised to find they're apparently unconnected. It has a lot in common with that but puts a little different spin on it. Main is brown so it's slightly woke but fits with the times and if anything they underplayed it. They could've had the officer calling him a wog to his face and it would've worked perfectly.Soap opera effect didn't do the cinematography any favors but it evened out as the film progressed. All in all fairly middle of the road. maybe better than average but certainly it was way better than Dragn, the shitty scifi tier drone horror I watched before that.
The Wourdalak is an unusually faithful (and therefore good) adaptation of one of the best vampire stories of all time, tho the director, being this European art movie type, of course had to fuck one thing up, being that the head vampire is represented by a kids' puppet theater puppet. Tho I'll take that over the three botched Salem's Lot adaptations that were all almost complete failures (the first one had Spielberg directing so it's not awful, but it's still truncated almost beyond recognition and they replaced the novel's Dracula with a mute Nosferatu for some reason).

Watched The Blood Spattered Bride (1972)This was very good. A different take on the Carmilla vanpire story. The women are hot af in this, Susan, Carmilla but especially Carol. Don't know why I've never heard of this. Any fans of the Carmilla story should give it a watch.
For me it's Ginger Snaps
Guess tomorrow morning I'll try to watch>1013 Briar Lane>Dead Of Night>Let's Scare Julie
We're all watching Other Mommy right?

>Watching Haunting of Hill House>It's meh/10>Get to the suicide episode>It puts me in a super bad moodshould I keep going? should i try his other shows?
i liked it, but it felt a bit unfocused with all the time travel shenanigans

>>223587892>Haunting of Hill HouseIts made for chicks
>>223587934the place isn't even haunted
>>223587934Not him, but it feels more like a drama than a horror series. Its like a shitty NBC drama show about life struggles with a few ghosts thrown in.
>>223587892no, but you might want to watch Oculus
>>223587882I will keep repeating that I still don't understand why people jerk him off so much. His shit was weird for the sake of being weird and that's it. I'll never get it when there's plenty of other horror manga that are better, but never got even remotely popular.
>>223588003He makes cool high concept stories.
perhaps the real haunting was the family trauma we collected along the way
>>223588003>His shit was weird for the sake of being weird. That's what makes his stories great. Something like Hellstar Remina is so good because of how out there it is.
Been watching through the Nightmare on Elm Street series. 1 and 3 are truly great. Going to watch the remake tonight, I don't think I have since it was first released. It better be as horrible as I remember.
>>223588020High concept if you're an edgy 13 year-old, sure.>>223588040Japan has a fuckton of "out there" movies that aren't popular. So why does this one retard get sucked off over all the others?
>>223588081I don't think you know what high concept means.
>>223581662Anyone who cant enjoy this retarded but entertaining movie is the reason why we keep getting mumbleslop "horror"
>>223588109Go ahead and give me the definition, tell me where that definition comes from, and then produce enough examples that all follow that definition to establish it.
>>223588003>horror manga that are bettername 5
>>223588184no
>>2235880613 is technically better, but 4 is my favorite, or it's a close tie. The remake is horrible and you remember correctly.
>>223587882is there even a single Ito adaptation that could be considered good?
>>223588307The Tomie movies were good enough that they made like 20 of them
>>223588220I accept your concession

>>223588362you'd better come correct next time or you'll be raped
>>223588307reason why itou adaptations end up bad isn't because the stories aren't good it's because of technical limitations and weird shit going on at the studios

>>223588458>hideshi ino>shintaro kago>suehiro maruo>kazuo umezuThe names that popped up at the top of my head. Some are weirder than Ito. None are better though, he really is the goat. Anon is just a contrarian for the sake of it.

>>223588307I haven’t read the manga, but I thought Long Dream was great
>>223589100It's a pretty short story. And as usual superior, but I agree Long Dream was enjoyable. They extend the story out a bit to make it a full length film, and the changes work well enough.
I finally got around to watching the amateur film project known as "Humanoids from the Deep" (1980). I admit it had a certain trashy charm, and some scenes really made me laugh. Like in the beginning when they blew up that boat - not because the humanoids interfered, but because of the combined incompetence of the crew on board. And what was up with those 6 small burning spots in the water in the harbor during the pandemonium? Was that supposed to kill the entire humanoid population? I'm sure the Humanoids movie contributed to the Troy (Doug) McClure jokes on The Simpsons ("You may remember me from such movies as ...") I had great fun watching this, but quality-wise there's no way I'd give it more than 4/10.
Just rewatched the VVitch. Or rewitched, if thou will.It needs a second watch to understand it better. What a heavy film.
>>223589310I have very high hopes for The VVervvulf

>>223586647Alright, Nosferatu's done. I loved the atmosphere and the visuals, though overall it was a bit mid. Still, very enjoyable.Think I'm gonna watch Smile 1/2 next. Need a tv show though, I'm almost done with Widow's Bay (love it)

>>223589701I think I've only seen the first 3 movies, but don't remember a single thing about them. One day, when the series is done (or on a long break), I'll marathon them all.
>>223589736It's subtle, but more importantly, it's all character driven, so none of it feels forced.
>>223589747I'm a sucker for supernatural/haunted house horror, so I still enjoy them.

>>223590970The first one is good and ends on a huge cliffhanger. The second one is a direct sequel and addresses the cliffhanger. It's pretty good and definitely worth seeing if you like the first. I think I saw three but it was so bad I don't remember anything. Didn't bother with any others.
>>223591672KinoI got a Best of Dark Shadows DVD for my birthday this past Summer.
>>223591829forgot pic
>>223591829>>223591842holy basedbut a compilation would seem odd since the show was so heavily serial
>>223592013I already have most of the series downloaded years ago. But the quality was pretty shit. So I was happy for a bit of an upgrade.
2nd to 6th episodes were incredibly kino in a row, the rest just ok or plain meh.
>>223592013nigga don't expect someone to buy +1200 episodes, that would be hundreds of dollas in DVDs
This movie unironically has a stacked fucking cast. I didn’t even realize that was Jeffrey Combs playing the bad guy at first
>>223592337>Stacked>Sasha Greyyeah

>>223592727These are some based ass choices, especially Halloweentown

This movie is too long and too generic. I wanted to like it but just found it forgettable. The latina is hot though

millennial writing: the movie
On the ticket for tonight is The Witch (2015) dir. Robert Eggers
Watched Bride of Re-AnimatorEven crazier than the first movie. Loved it.But I gotta ask...Barbara Crampton or Fabiana Udenio?
>>223592970dan stevens was pretty rad
>>223593138Now watch the third one. It's positively batshit compared to Bride. And I think I actually liked it more.
>>223593005I finally watched this for the first time a few years ago and it surprisingly wasn't as bad as I was led to believe. As a standalone movie it's probably got too many plotlines going on for a normie audience and as an adaptation it, uh, certainly makes some choices, but it had its charms.
>>223593138I see Jeffrey Combs, I watch. Simple as.
>AHS HotelThis is somehow more woman-brained than Coven was, with all of the cringe LGBTQIA+ affirmation scenes. At least it has more horror than Coven.
>>223593267The whole show is woman-brained.
>>223593267I think Hotel has enough going for it to power through the gay shit, but I know many disagree. They got a great cast for that season.
>>223593138Bride is top tier and an excellent sequel but I prefer the first one. The third one sucks. And for me it's Fabiana. I don't know how anyone would pick plain Jane Crampton.
>>223593290The vampires was the weak part for me. Everything else was great.
>>223582080I hate myself for understanding what you said and for laughing at the vid.

>>223592970Abigail is great, liked her ballet-fighting style.
>>223593419I liked that, too. They could have done so much more with it, but the "scoundrels trapped in a mansion with a ballerina vampire loli" was a thread the story barely pulled on. All the rest was just formulaic.
