Obsession is genuinely spooky in places, but sufferes from horrible internet culture.
backrooms is good if you like films that explore mental illness through physicalizing it, but the script is super weak. if you have an opinion about CPTSD and PTSD and how they differ and are similar then i would definitely recommend it.

I enjoyed it and watched it at least twice but I think it gets kind of messy and mishandles a feature length runtime. One of those cases where I think it would have worked better in some sort of anthology that gave it 45-55 minutes. Still though I think it was quite successful with the ideas it did have like showing the actual POV of an unreliable narrator where WE get tricked into thinking things that aren't true because the protagonist does for example alice is very intentionally ambiguously extant. we don't ever really get enough information if she's even real or not but just enough that it could go either way.

Normally I don't really like the "he's just crazy lol" type of narratives but even though I think it loses it's footing a bit near the end it's still better executed than 99% of other examples.

.... meh. ill say the two jump scares genuinely startled me, and when the lady scooped up the mustard and when he opened the crawl space and vomited genuinely had me gagging with disgust. this was just not really for me. i dont find mindless murder very interesting, and while the film was shot well enough that the filth and grotesque nature could be called aesthetic in some way i was not compelled. i know its based on real events but i mean come on are alcoholic women this fucking stupid? Expecially when i directly compare it to Angst, which has precisely what this film lacks:depth of character. Herr Honka may very well be an irredeemable disgusting human being (german), but there could be some indication at all that theres something going on in his mind, but no, he is as two dimensional as a a sitcom extra. quite disappointed but also its gonna be the perfect film for a particular audience.

ill say this, if you are the type who wants to see a movie that depicts a sickening man and yet has no sympathy for him, which is full of deplorable and disgusting characters, and has no redeemable joy at all, save for the coincidental joy of anyone who is not his victim surviving. check this out. it has tension, it has gross out, it has violence, it has some startling bits and its shot with expertise.
