The poster who was supposed to be me and the shill were both played by the same guy. And at the end, when my uncle OP, you know....gets banned...everyone in the thread started cheering. I checked the last thread you linked to that "hit the bump limit" and it did... after two entire days lmao

It technically did max out and 404, but only because it was moving so slowly that it just kind of hung around and festered with the same 6 people bumping it for 48 hours

People here love to talk all the time about "shill threads" when a movie comes out and gets really popular so people talk about it a lot, but shit like this are the actual shill threads. It's a dozen or so people artificially propping up a movie the overwhelming majority of people didn't like and don't care about because it vaguely supports their political agenda to try and make it seem more popular than it actually was

they should of advertised it as a cult classic stage plays revival/opening night and the lead, a father expecting his daughter to be there to watch it) has to worry about whether his missing daughter is alive or not.
thats the thread spanning the entire film and the one they should of ran with.
its a solid film all on its own but the marketing is atrocious for some reason.

but if that's the case, it's kind of weird how it isn't spreading via word of mouth the way Obsession or The Backrooms did then, huh?

It's almost like this is a movie that just about everyone doesn't actually like, because the opposite effect is happening. See with movies like Obsession, they had little to no marketing, and very few people saw it initially, but because everyone who did liked it and spread positive reviews via word of mouth, they became huge very quickly. Just about the exact opposite is happening here. Similarly very few people saw it, despite having a significantly larger marketing budget, but of the people who did, they spread extremely negative views via word of mouth.

You following what I'm saying here? Can you dig it? The movie did so poorly that it's getting pulled from the theaters less that 2 weeks into it's theatrical run because people did not like it. Can you dig that?

Definitely not, it's bog standard liberal whinging about environmentalism with the two dissenting voices (Digger and the President) being the explicit villains of the narrative, so even if they're correct (which they are) their exaggerated personas convince the average person they're wrong and untrustworthy.

The movie isn't about environmentalism (the environmental catastrophe that happens is completely nonsensical and unrealistic).

It's about how the elites fucking suck and need to be replaced and how we're all complicit in propping them up.

The thread at first presents itself as unfunny, limp-dicked liberal shitposting about an oil baron who destroys the world and the thinly-veiled DRUMPFT parody President who enables him. One anon plays an anti-shill guy who gets a bunch of cringe mic-drop speeches about how these evil, greedy shills ignored LE BOX OFFICE and will answer to GOD. It’s intentionally unfunny and anons are so irony poisoned it’s unbearable and cringe.

About 40 posts into the thread it’s revealed that we are actually watching a schizophrenic samefag that is parodying an ACTUAL real-world thread that happened about 30 hours ago. The OP is an actor portraying a ridiculous version of real-world /tv/ shills, and he hates the show he’s putting on because it trivializes a real-world tragedy and reduces an evil phenomenon into cartoonish nonsense. An advertising agency employed the OP, bribed the jannies, and finances the thread to help launder Digger’s image and give anons a stress reliever so they can throw tomatoes at a flopping movie while being content in the board the ruling class destroyed. When the thread is over the posters all put on le mask and walk out into yet another /dig/ thread patrolled by bots and crazed anti-shills. It’s very bleak

I thought it was going to be just a movie criticizing corporate greed destroying the planet but there were more things.

What is this movie about? A digger?

Was the Gorillaz song from the trailer featured anywhere in the movie at all, like not even the credits?
I’m a little bummed about that, that song from the initial trailer hooked me, along with Cruise’s crazy shovel dancing, but none of those were included in the final movie!
I was waiting for him to pick up a shovel and dance on the railing at the boat like in the trailer, but it never happened damn

>>
>>223643774
Apart from the main criticism of corporate greed destroying the planet there is also is also the one about the hypocrites that hate Digger but that couldn't live without the oil he produces.

Then there is the one about people that think they are on the good side but end up hating so much that become evil too like when the audience cheers Digger drowning.

And there is the one that is represented by Kenny (Digger's nephew) that I haven't understood yet. He funds the theater play I don't know why, if it is to earn money from people's hate, to change the story a little or what is his intention.
>>
>The Digger Cinematic Universe is being developed by Cruise and Iñarritu after the enormous success of Digger
>Digger: Bigger is expected to start pre-production in late 2027
>Anne Hathaway is in talks to join in an as of yet undisclosed role
>Amy Adams has signed a 4-picture deal as Diggerina

>>
>>223635837
Look at the old man dancer in the silents. Cruise can't match that agility, whimsy, skills, etc. A walled ex-twink without summer SFX needs to keep it lower-budget.

I think the movie has a lot of issues, mostly in the script, but the europe scene really does make the movie. Tom should win the oscar for it alone.

It’s solid and I don’t know why critics are shitting on it, sure it’s wrapped in the veneer of basically being an up it’s own ass dr Strangelove but it is well shot and the sets are genuinely impressive. Its commentary is on the nose but everything around it is well done. It’s like don’t look up but trying to actually be a piece of art rather than bullshit
>>
>>223639266
I agree. I'm seeing that too. John Goodman and Cruise were really hilarious. I enjoyed every scene in the movie. it felt so grand like I really was watching a broadway show or something. one of the best movies I've seen in years. I can't stop thinking about how kino it is. Hey guys... I don't think i'm gonna DIG this one.
>>
>>223644340
Oh yeah I did notice those points. When it comes to your last one I am also trying to understand it, it's hard to say where Kenny's morality lays, he clearly sees Digger in Curtis but also wants to make people celebrate and be entertained from the most awful thing that has ever happened, the reality is clearly grim due to his family and he owns a massive surveilance company able to find someone in a completely cut-off area within hours, so at the moment I struggle to understand his deeper point of view. I do think that in a twisted way he helps some people get closure
>>
>>223645063
It's basically showing how rich and awful people control art being made even when it's critical of them and also how it personally absolves their guilt in a way. Think about South Park, how they skewer Trump and his allies every week and yet it's owned by Skydance who are direct friends and supporters and donors of this admin, he's just doing the same thing
>>
Playing Dig Dug to get my Digger fix
>>
bought tickets for my whole extended family we're gonna go on sunday after church wish me luck bros
>>
>>223645063
>>223644340
the last point was the simplest for me to understand, it’s just pointing out that art isn’t the answer. This kid took his families worst day and used that to frame the story and own it entirely, it doesn’t matter what people think or feel, they did what they want with our lives and continue to do that. Dick Cheney and Henry Kissinger died in their beds surrounded by loved ones while the last twenty years has seen an average of 4 veterans committing suicide a day. It’s nice to point out and laugh at how incompetent our elites are, but if we make no meaningful moves to actually replace and supplant them then it’s all moot

Just watched it for the first time, went in knowing basically nothing other than it's about an oil tycoon and everyone dislikes it.
What a fucking movie. It was so weird and even though I loved it, I'd have a hard time recommending it to someone? Not because it's bad or anything, but just because it's weird. The movie is so in your face and obviously satirical, but it never hits a point where it feels insulting or anything.
Tom Cruise is phenomenal btw he cements himself constantly as a top 5 all timer.

Horror Buff is very real. Digger doesn't have any attractive genre tag, it's just letterboxd-core, the kind of thing that would never make 100 mil
>>
>>223637891
It makes the scenes with color pop even more. The shots of the plane set from the theater have gorgeous color and so does the sunset on the derrick at the end
>>
>>223646253
It’s a dark satire comedy, it’s not that hard to define it it’s just hard to describe it without giving to much away

Digger Rockwell being more reserved and sinister is vital to the movie for me. One line from Tom Cruise really colors the premise of the play and their portrayal. They're doing a Looney Tunes parody with a Texas accent and a loud mouth version of the man who destroyed the world. That's what makes it so fucking funny too. It's also a ever present threat in our society, higher than even our government. Movie was a true modern sequel to Dr. Strangelove
>>
>>223643947
Update: I liked the framing, reminded me of Asteroid City but imo it did a better job of delivering that idea. Holy shit that scene with him addressing everyone was fucking kino. Much to think on. It's nice to have something targeting the oil industry without getting preachy, it really felt earnest.
>>
>>223646335
Cat attacking Digger is to represent maybe how everything in his life eventually fell apart. That even Maggie, who's he kept alive for 30 years, in it's final moments tried to kill a man she hated. No idea about the cast. Feels like I'm missing something there.

In a narrative way, I think it's to paint Kenny Rockwell in a better light. A kid who maybe "learned" from the mistakes his family made, and is inspiring a better tomorrow. Man happens to be the CEO of a surveillance company who can find someone with a phone number btw
He's not like his family though!
>>
>>223646415
Think you summarized how I feel. This is Asteroid City but wayyyyy better. Digger's narrative intertwined with itself, where as AC just kinda felt separate and didn't tie in all that much.
>>
>>223646425
What do you think the cats age represented? He was too old for it to be a childhood pet and they never bothered to mention a wife or ex but they did show him with his mother and half sister. Was it just supposed to be a representation of his twisted values? Something to soften him enough for some sympathy but not enough to actually humanize him?

Maggie's age is the boomer mentality of not wanting to let go. Medically grasping onto this thing well past it's lifespan and genuine worth. Shops for doctors to keep this thing alive. Can't recall exactly but I believe Curtis did say Rockwell loved his cat.

Though was kinda thinking about Fossil Fuels. Kenny mentions how "When they saw what happened with my uncle at the end, they cheered". The ending on the oil rig, to me, seemed like it wss supposed to be a sad/bittersweet moment, yet the crowd cheered and mocked it. Makes me think Fossil Fools was a attempt to actually humanize Digger but the audience made it a farce.
You can see how the the story could paint a dying president as the doom's day culprit. How he roared the UN with a anti-establishment speech. Was secluded and tragically came to a end. Maybe not intentional but it was fun to think about.

So basically Kenny's objetive making the theater play is to profit from it an change the narrative a little to show that his uncle wasn't just a monster. Could it be summarized like that?
>>
>>223651841
His intentions are never explicit other than what he says [and he could/probably is whitewashing]
and even then it's perfectly valid to take it at face value and say he just really loves the play. there's a shot of him smiling at a performance of emma [his mother] which points to the idea that he just wants to figuratively go back to a time where everyone could laugh at the horror and wants to bring everyone else with him too
