Kenny gives Curtis a tie half way through the film. The tie is in a silver bix not unlike the cat urn. Does anyone else think that the tie was what Rockwell hung himself with?
This is the kind of movie I'll be proud to say in 20 years I went to the movies to see it. There were only two people in the theater with me, a middle aged couple who were actively confused and asking each other questions at every part

6/10The amount of screen-time fossil fools takes-up in the movie ironically undercuts the message it's trying to impart. Having the limp-dicked, resentful, and absurd political satire that you're trying to criticize take center-stage while the framing device that's meant to skewer that species of film is salted and peppered throughout almost as an after-thought was a horrid choice. It would certainly help for Curtis to elaborate more on what really happened and why the tragedy occurred. As is, the message feels too much like a dismissive, vague, and curt "it's complicated" that typically proceeds the production of the very tripe caricatures the movie loathes; the denial of rational understanding often begets the self-destructive quest for emotional catharsis. In the end it seems like one of those movies where you're never entirely sure if it went through too many re-writes, or too few.
This film is so beautifully unhinged.
>>223652769Eyes Wide Shut is a better performance and maybe Collateral as well but this was close to them. I don't know why people think that he can't act well.
>>223653086> I don't know why people think that he can't act well.Because he mostly does action movies where the script doesn't call for anything other than stunts
>>223653086If you are 20 years old, Tom Cruise has appeared in two movies in your lifetime that involved any acting at all, and there is little likelihood you saw them. To most people he's the guy who shouts, runs, and jumps off buildings.
>all indiansuhhbros?
>>223653072I disagree. I thought every scene was important and served a purpose. you learn the history of the world through the play. I don't think it's entirely anti-satire, it just wants to have its cake and eat it too. Give you a satisfying modern satire but doesn't allow the comfort of self righteousness because it subverts it at the end.

I like to think Digger probably just never died. Either faked his own death or just never bothered. He's the most powerful man in the world at his peak and world devestation probably didn't take him down from that, since obviously oil is still being used at the end
>>223653602I did wonder if someone pushed him

>>223653890I prefer the less is more approach and not spoiling it, but the movie is already out and people are talking so it is what it is. Probably hoping that knowing the twist will bring them into the theatre more. I already knew the twist before watching cuz of these threads but I had a great time watching it. A visionary man that started a history-changing movement from nothing and was the first to realise a true modern dictatorship ... the first of his time to TRUELY realise the potential of radio and video propaganda. But also a terrible, idiotic wartime leader that stumbled italy into WW2 and then betrayed his people to the Germans when shit started falling apart. He keeps the cat alive despite its obvious pain and suffering, ignoring the other characters who tell him to put it down. He's not keeping it alive for the cat's sake, but for his ownWhen he tries to feed the cat (keep it alive), it bites him. He then covers the wound, almost as a coping mechanism, allowing him to ignore the scar and therefore the rejection and continue pretending that the love is reciprocated. Even his seemingly genuine act of love is driven by selfishness which is his character in a nutshell

The only ones that lost hundreds of millions are the producers and the studio. And the people that liked the movie, like me, don't care about that at all. We watched the movie and we liked it, that's all.
>>223663319I hate the narrative that the film failed due to the box office. it's very shallow minded, so ofc some low IQ are using it as their way of attacking the film cause they can't attack the film for the substance of it so they have to just say it must be bad cause nobody is seeing it. Not to even consider we are in an economic depression and movie attendance is way down overall. If you look at history, a lot of the most classics films filtered people when they first came out. Digger is ahead of its time and comes to us when we are used to seeing nothing but slop films. It's a brilliant refreshing film, but normies might hate on it just for being different and not the usual sludge they consume. What's extra cringe about this is that that black dude if he had any awareness would realize this movie is far to the left of Tom's previous work (Top Gun is basically military propaganda) but yet he's trying to dunk on him for whatever reason.Based tom cruise. based everyone involved with the film. based digger
>>223663319ayo this nigga BALD lmfao
>>223653986The worst part about that IGN headline is "the laughs will still be there" as if that's what you're seeing this movie for. I loved the movie but only chuckled a few times, Primetime was much funnier
>>223654160Just so you know, call yourself a historian all you want in an attempt to seem reasonable and unbiased, but we can all smell your TDS stink through the screen.
>>223663384Cruise and Inarritu produced it together

>>223663607So does that mean that conservatives have ODS? Politics was never as annoying before conservatives lost their collective shit in 2008. It was annoying as fuck.
>>223660913I miss when these guys were on top of interesting new releases, now on the rare occasion they're actually timely they for some reason just choose to watch capeshit and complain about it
>>223663518Also a dumb narrative because it's only a failure relative to it's absurd budget, when you compare it to other arthouse movies the BO take would be considered successful. In other words the movie's actual audience has showed up
Guys I'm starting to think that giving foreign directors hundreds of millions of dollars to tell Americans how evil and horrible they are isn't a very good idea
For all of Hollywood's fascination with climate change it bothers me that none of them ever talk about how much better things have gotten over the past twenty years. Still a lot of work to do but ultimately it looks like things will be okay in the end

>>223652769The EU scene and his role in Tropic Thunder are the best moments of Cruise's career. Though I hear Vanilla Sky aligns with Digger in a whole lot of aspects so I'll probably watch that later.
You only memeing it because it rhymes with nigger
Does this movie suffer from the "Napoleon Dynamite" effect?
>>223656395>>223664970I think it makes fun of both, of anyone who demands their worldview be present in media

I haven't seen it yet. But the fact it has less than 60% on rotten tomatoes AND has bombed convinces me it might actually be good.

Party Diggers in the house tonight
Its the fault of those damn Russkies [and Chinese]
>>223663233Yes also the actual shot of him standing on the globe and kicking it with the cowboy hat on wasnt in the film either. Nor him and his sister dancing with the shovel. A lot of promo shots.
>>223653023No it’s based and digpilled
>>223665456Digger left a impression on me. Never been too fond of the director's other Hollywood work (thought Birdman was too much sometimes), yet here it all clicked into place perfectly for me. Honestly dreading watching it at home because I don't know if I got the speakers to do it justice.

>>223665899Still have no clue what the dudes bending their necks against the ceilings are all about, other than just being subtly creepy
Okay /diggers/ here's my interpretationThe satire isn't on Trump, billionaires et al. It's on you, the audience who watches campy satires of them. The crowd triumphantly jeers after watching le billionaires be epic pwned in the play. The smug director pats herself on the back for her scathing satire, a job well done. And when the curtains close, everyone puts on their masks and walk outside into the toxic wasteland that Earth has become. What's the situation in the future? Wealth equality is even worse; the poors are wading in the radioactive canals breathing the toxic air without a mask. The Rockwell family is just as omniscient as ever; Jesse Plemons operates a national security network more powerful than the government's. The narrative is just as controlled; Jesse Plemons himself LITERALLY writes and orchestrates the narrative for the masses to consume. These campy satires are nothing but a coping mechanism against the real truth: The billionaires are composed. They're seductively friendly (Curtis thanks Jesse Plemons for saving his daughter--from the disaster Jesse created--and pats Jesse's son on the head just the same as Jesse does). They're intelligent (the smug director chides Curtis for thinking this, he just doesn't "get the satire"). Campy satires portraying them as bumbling goofy villains are coping mechanism for the masses to feel like they've "won" something, and misdirect them from doing anything tangible against the real problems.Kino as fuck.
>>223666437but i dont watch campy satires on trump. so i guess this movie isnt for me. thanks for saving me the cost of admission. i'm gonna wait for days of thunder 2

>>223666528There's a lot to talk about in it, it offers the contrarian fun of hyping up a 52%RT movie without making you pretend to like a shitty movie, it dunks on a genre that /tv/ hates, and you can say things like "times you acted like a digger"
