Nothing special, I'm not from the USA and in my country there's automatic scholarships for any low-income students but it's based on your parents income. You have to mail in your parents' tax sheet and then they mail you back with your scholarship status and how much it will be (at worst you get nothing but your tuition is free, at best you get half of the minimum wage on top of the free tuition and you qualify for priority student housing). Anyways, a friend of mine worked clerical for the scholarship office and at lunch he was telling me about his day and I realized there's no step in the process where they verify your parents are really your parents and some of the kids didn't have their parents' last name for various reasons. Mine were at that awkward income where you're just poor enough to struggle with everything but not poor enough to qualify for aid. So I asked around and got a friends' parents tax sheet and just put that down instead of my own. Instant minimum scholarship and a few thousands a year of tuition saved up for three years.
There are so many opportunities for this kind of stuff. When I worked at a museum as a cashier selling tickets/working the info desk, I realized you could print free tickets meant for specific cases like under 18, school trip etc so that the purchase doesn't get logged in the system and as long as the people were paying cash you could pocket that and no one would be the wiser since the ticket machine was not hooked up to the cashier program so you could pre-print paying tickets and give those out while billing them as free as long as the free tickets were also printed (weird system, bit complicated to explain). Anyways if I wanted to I could have stolen about a hundred extra a day. Same when I worked purchasing, so many times I could have robbed the place blind (as long as I for some reason only wanted construction goods).
