If historians were real they’d say that Trump was a very forward thinking man who was the first to truly sieze the power of social media to launch a political movement.
He was the first politician to really understand that the game is just about grabbing eyeballs and was willing to use any means necessary to make the whole world obsess over him 24/7 for over a decade.

The amount of screen-time fossil fools takes-up in the movie ironically undercuts the message it's trying to impart. Having the limp-dicked, resentful, and absurd political satire that you're trying to criticize take center-stage while the framing device that's meant to skewer that species of film is salted and peppered throughout almost as an after-thought was a horrid choice. It would certainly help for Curtis to elaborate more on what really happened and why the tragedy occurred. As is, the message feels too much like a dismissive, vague, and curt "it's complicated" that typically proceeds the production of the very tripe caricatures the movie loathes; the denial of rational understanding often begets the self-destructive quest for emotional catharsis. In the end it seems like one of those movies where you're never entirely sure if it went through too many re-writes, or too few.

> I don't know why people think that he can't act well.
Because he mostly does action movies where the script doesn't call for anything other than stunts
>>
>>223653086
If you are 20 years old, Tom Cruise has appeared in two movies in your lifetime that involved any acting at all, and there is little likelihood you saw them. To most people he's the guy who shouts, runs, and jumps off buildings.

I disagree. I thought every scene was important and served a purpose. you learn the history of the world through the play.
I don't think it's entirely anti-satire, it just wants to have its cake and eat it too. Give you a satisfying modern satire but doesn't allow the comfort of self righteousness because it subverts it at the end.

Honestly the best marketing they could do at this point would be to just dump the EU parliament scene out there publicly and let it go viral. That would absolutely get people to see the rest of the movie.
>>
>>223653890
I prefer the less is more approach and not spoiling it, but the movie is already out and people are talking so it is what it is. Probably hoping that knowing the twist will bring them into the theatre more. I already knew the twist before watching cuz of these threads but I had a great time watching it. Actual historian here.
He will most likely be credited for being a great public speaker and the first true social media president. A visionary that started a new type of populist movements all around the world. He wil also be criticised for being a terrible, terrible fucking president and a traitor to foreign billionaire interests.

A comparable figure might be Mussolini. A visionary man that started a history-changing movement from nothing and was the first to realise a true modern dictatorship ... the first of his time to TRUELY realise the potential of radio and video propaganda. But also a terrible, idiotic wartime leader that stumbled italy into WW2 and then betrayed his people to the Germans when shit started falling apart. A visionary and a tard.

One can be remembered both for the positives and negatives, but the negatives with trump will carry more weight (as they do with mussolini)

The cat is the only thing in the film that he appears to show genuine love towards, but even that relationship reveals his selfish and delusional nature. He keeps the cat alive despite its obvious pain and suffering, ignoring the other characters who tell him to put it down. He's not keeping it alive for the cat's sake, but for his own

When he tries to feed the cat (keep it alive), it bites him. He then covers the wound, almost as a coping mechanism, allowing him to ignore the scar and therefore the rejection and continue pretending that the love is reciprocated. Even his seemingly genuine act of love is driven by selfishness which is his character in a nutshell

Just got home from the theater. I went as a lone kino autist and I have to think this is one of my favourite theater experiences of recent memory. Me and the other 7 guys started clapping at the end. All of us 8 middle aged guys with the day off mostly sat in the theater through the credit sequence. At the end when it was just me and 3 other guys in the theater remaining I actually walked up to them with a smile and said, "How are we feelin', fellow Digger bros!". Actually had a nice chat about the film with these guys, all of us thought the film was fantastic, Cruise's speech in the middle was incredible, one guy actually started imitating him spinning around lol. We all seemed to really hope Inniritu will get another chance to make a big blockbuster film, but all seemed to doubt it will ever happen again. Glad I went out to see it, thank you all Diggerbros in these threads for convincing me to give it a chance through the power of Diggermemes.

Googling "Digger Speech" prompts whether you are talking about the movie or TTGL, I laughed so hard I had to make this:
>elites own us
>we want/need them to do the dangerous things we hate them for so we can live the way we live
>>

Glad you liked it. I dragged my boomer parents there over the weekend who are big Tom Cruise fans btw and they both hated it. Our theater only had like 8 other people in it as well

>>
>>223658183
Your boomer parents are part of the negligent generation that this film is so critical of. Though don't get me wrong, other generations are participants and also criticized for being complicit and only half-heartedly fighting against the milking of the earth. It's the type of film that forces the audience to realize there's a little Digger in all of us. Makes sense that some may not want to have the mirror shown to them.
>>
>>223657916
I'm so glad to hear you had such a nice time! It truly is one of a kind, I didn't speak to my other audience members (besides the friend I went with) but we all laughed and felt the same during the key scenes, we were all left in silence for a while at the end as well, I think we all got it which was great to see

By far the best scene of the film. I know the Digger speech in the parliament will be the highlight because they can't really spoil this moment, but Curtis' last protest against the director is where the film finishes digging and reaches its core. His questioning of "we all know Digger wasn't some psycho clown, what the fuck are we doing" is his best acting in the film in my opinion. That's the real question of the film and it doesn't really have an answer, I guess because there isn't one.

The only one affected by that is the studio and the producers. Cruise's career is not going to suffer from this movie, he got paid, the director got paid too and I don't think this will damage too much his career either... The only ones that lost hundreds of millions are the producers and the studio.

And the people that liked the movie, like me, don't care about that at all. We watched the movie and we liked it, that's all.
>>
>>223663319
I hate the narrative that the film failed due to the box office. it's very shallow minded, so ofc some low IQ are using it as their way of attacking the film cause they can't attack the film for the substance of it so they have to just say it must be bad cause nobody is seeing it. Not to even consider we are in an economic depression and movie attendance is way down overall.

If you look at history, a lot of the most classics films filtered people when they first came out. Digger is ahead of its time and comes to us when we are used to seeing nothing but slop films. It's a brilliant refreshing film, but normies might hate on it just for being different and not the usual sludge they consume.

What's extra cringe about this is that that black dude if he had any awareness would realize this movie is far to the left of Tom's previous work (Top Gun is basically military propaganda) but yet he's trying to dunk on him for whatever reason.

Based tom cruise. based everyone involved with the film. based digger

Also a dumb narrative because it's only a failure relative to it's absurd budget, when you compare it to other arthouse movies the BO take would be considered successful. In other words the movie's actual audience has showed up

>>
Okay /diggers/ here's my interpretation

The satire isn't on Trump, billionaires et al. It's on you, the audience who watches campy satires of them. The crowd triumphantly jeers after watching le billionaires be epic pwned in the play. The smug director pats herself on the back for her scathing satire, a job well done. And when the curtains close, everyone puts on their masks and walk outside into the toxic wasteland that Earth has become.

What's the situation in the future? Wealth equality is even worse; the poors are wading in the radioactive canals breathing the toxic air without a mask. The Rockwell family is just as omniscient as ever; Jesse Plemons operates a national security network more powerful than the government's. The narrative is just as controlled; Jesse Plemons himself LITERALLY writes and orchestrates the narrative for the masses to consume.

These campy satires are nothing but a coping mechanism against the real truth: The billionaires are composed. They're seductively friendly (Curtis thanks Jesse Plemons for saving his daughter--from the disaster Jesse created--and pats Jesse's son on the head just the same as Jesse does). They're intelligent (the smug director chides Curtis for thinking this, he just doesn't "get the satire"). Campy satires portraying them as bumbling goofy villains are coping mechanism for the masses to feel like they've "won" something, and misdirect them from doing anything tangible against the real problems.

Kino as fuck.
