>>223747093wrong flick in the filename innit
>>223747108What do you mean? This does reuse footage from Jesse James (1939), namely the horse going for a swim and crashing through a window kek but it's the Ray film
>>223747093wait a second... that shot...
>>223747151oh yeah I'm retarded and should've noticed from the widescreen. at a glance the horse scene, the silhouette on the train, the shooting on the bottom right made me think of the '39 one. it's really that close of a remake?
>>223747922I mean it covers some of the same episodes but Ray is more interested in the historical background and what made Jesse James become an outlaw (e.g. Northern sympathizers neighbours denouncing Jesse’s family, him getting whipped and his family expelled from Missouri by Union soldiers, leading him to join Quantrill’s Raiders; the attack on the farm with the lynching of the hired hand and the murder attempt on the mother are made more powerful)Ray was apparently not happy with the final result, a lot was cut or reshot and there are some flashbacks with terrible transitions that hurt the rhythm of the film. It's good though, I can vouch for all of them really (King, Lang, Fuller and Ray) even if they are not at the top of anyone's fimography
I can only watch one more movie before I give up kinos all together. What should I pick?

>>223750351>>223750540Is that an actual Tourneur film or is it one of those where they got a Hollywood director but then it was really Freda or Bava who ended up making the film?
>>223750540>>223750745Yeah I'm pretty sure it was ghost directed by Bava lol
Either way i love those peplum films, mainly the Hercules ones.
>>223750745>Tourneur's contract was for ten weeks, at the end of which, he said, he had shot all the principal dialogue sequences but not certain action sequences, in particular the scenes of Philippides running, the underwater scenes, and the final battle at sea. Rather than keep Tourneur at his relatively high rate, producer Bruno Vailati decided to direct the run and the sea battle himself while entrusting the underwater scenes to the brilliant Mario Bava, the film's cinematographer, who also served on the film as designer of its special effects (glass shots).
>>223750870>Mario Bava, the film's cinematographer, who also served on the film as designer of its special effects (glass shots).True craftsman.
>>223751024he was a painter by trade
>>223751047Or at least that's what I'm told
>>The son of Eugenio Bava (1886-1966), one of Italy’s pioneering cameramen and special effects artists, he was raised in an affluent environment, where he was educated in the fine arts. Mario developed a passion for painting in his late teens and attended a university to study the classics . Bava was able to use his father’s connections to gain an early entry into the film industry while he was still in his teens. Initially content with the low-paying job of designing and animating the title sequences for the Italian versions of popular American films, Bava only made the transition to cinematography when faced with the prospect of supporting a wife and child. He received his first director of photography credit in 1939 on one of Roberto Rossellini’s earliest short subjects, Il tacchino prepotente (literally: The Bullying Turkey).>His reticence to become a director is not surprising given his reputation as a rather shy, modest, self-effacing individual whose melancholy disposition and lack of self-confidence prevented him from making claims for his own enormous abilities. After having worked alongside more flamboyant filmmakers such as Rossellini and Riccardo Freda, Bava possibly felt that in order to be a good director, one had to go for excessive histrionics, toward which he was not predisposed.

>>223733543I'm different than most people because I'm willing to admit when I was wrong. I used to be one of those people who defended Woody Allen until he popped up in the Epstein files and Epstein was joking about how there's "too many pedos in one room." So I'm willing to admit he might have been a pedo. I mean, the real question is how young are we talking? If they were teenagers that's not the same as being a pedo.
