Intentionally throwing the ship into the sun at the end feels like a fuck you to the audience.

Why? Seems like a fitting end. A funeral pyre.

Did you finish it?
You're supposed to get hooked at the mystery of how exactly they connect to our IRL earth. Is this the future? The past? Who are the Gods that they worship? Is that girl in baltar's head just a hallucination or a piece of technology or a literal ghost or what? Whats this "plan" the intro sequence tells me about every episode? Who are the secret cylons on board? Ect.
If you don't find that mystery appealing then you wont enjoy this much if at all. Baltar is the best thing about this show but it's no Stargate Atlantis where one guy can just carry a mediocre premise through sheer acting chops.
No spoilers but the answer to all these questions is the most dogshit answer you can think of. Like you can probably think of it right now but if I hadnt said this, you'd dismiss it as "no that can't be that, thatd be too fucking stupid". It's that. Seriously.
"The plan?" Not real. They actually didn't have a plan, lol, get fucked.
The cylons? There's no way to guess, it's basically random characters they didn't know what to do with. "Lol".

It's shit. The same kind of people that love this are the kind that like lost I think, people who can overlook the absolute dogshit destination for the thrillride of the writers jiggling keys in front of you going oooohhh look the mystery has a new twist ooohhh while said mystery is being made up on the spot. If they planned for that ending then they deliberately chose the worst most dogshit ending they could have chosen so that's even worse.
>>
I liked the ending and nothing you can say will change my mind. It's a great pleb filter.
>>
>>223746847
themically its jarring because the ship has been their and audiences home for 4 seasons and it feels theyre just symbolically throwing away everything that makes them who they are
and logistically it makes no sense because hurr durr why would we need technology let's just go back to being agrarian tribes
>>
>>223746751
ran out of budget and got super heavy with actual unironic magic miracles
>sturbuck appears to be dead
>for several episodes

this is after an entire arc where she is marooned on a planet with a raider and came back from the dead once, except they show how and it makes a fun story

This isn't a hot take its just bait
Only good thing about the ending is that it somehow manages to age worse and worse with every coming year
>>
>>223746879
Not to metion the reason they do it is some vague notion of breaking the cycle of robuttz vs humans and just intermingling everyone into the green mass effect ending ony for the same thing to happen because everybody forgot they're part cylon.
It's just bad writing.

This show would have been 10/10 without the supernatural/spiritualism/voodoo stuff. Hell, take the human cylons away too. Just make it a pure, grounded military and political drama where they're trying to survive and keep the fleet civilization going long enough to make it to a habitable planet, while being constantly pursued by a faceless machine enemy.

it is better than lost because they were able to retcon the story into making sense at least. A good chunk of it was solid up until mid season 3 into 4 where they really just kinda ran out of ideas to keep things episodic, alongside the budget being diverted to side projects like razor.
Sy-fy had it's lightening in a bottle and milked it for every ounce of quality they could. If writers strike didn't happen it'd go to like 10 seasons of slop to keep pumping it
>>223746929
not that anon but the show is at least concise and can have deep enough story that it doesn't just fuck the audience. Although the deep story was just made up after the fact by an autistic writer to retcon things into making sense, but at least it wasn't Lost that kept introducing twists going nowhere

>>
>>223746954
Yes that John / Cavil. He said he hated being in a human body. He eventually built himself a new one and became a god. Baltar said god hates that name, just like Cavil hates being called John. It's an obvious hint. John continued to modify himself after the ending. He's not malicious, he just finds it fun to fuck with the puny life forms who ruined his plans.
>>
>>223746978

It all makes sense. Because Baltar was also the one who told John about god's plan for everyone. So after John became god he made Baltar into one of the "angels". Cylon God maintains the time loop because otherwise John would never exist, so they always succeed at finding earth, but he fucks with them at every opportunity out of irony / revenge.

It also explains Starbuck resurrecting. In this timeline Starbuck died, so John / God was forced to send a replacement to keep the time loop on track. John also shot himself at the end to avoid being captured, so they wouldn't find out about his upgrade path.

If somebody walks into a flat Earther convention and says it's round, the whole room will give that person appeal-to-consensus face like you're trying to do now, it doesn't really mean anything.

Referring to characters by the actor and then using unnecessary acronyms is dumb as fuck, half-black zoomoid cell phone behavior of the sort that has made this website nigh unusable for years now.

I haven't watched it in probably fifteen years or so, and while I loved the miniseries, and really liked the first two seasons, I started to gas out somewhere in the third season, and bailed after the S3 finale. Then, a podcast I listened to described the series finale, and it killed any interest I had in ever going back and revisiting the series.

Tricia Helfer is such a piece of ass though. Bless her for having an OF where she actually shows the goods. I think she even got Katie Sackoff in on it a little bit.
>>
I watched the series once, a long time ago, and remember not liking most of it. I may be misremembering, but by the end I just hated the whole show.

>Advanced space culture with massive starships and fighters and tech, and the show agrees they're literally just Humans
>The whole conceit is they think they're looking for "Earth" where they came from, and eventually they find "Earth" but it's not the real Earth technically it's just a random planet, but they turn it into Earth and create all of Human history on the planet.

Ok, that's fine, whatever. But the show itself wasn't really an actual sci-fi show? Not really? It was a drama show about a bunch of people slowly cracking mentally, all while being infiltrated by people who you don't learn until 3/4 of the way in were actually evil alien robots the whole time, just in skin suits, and that the entire evil alien robot race that wants to Kill All Humans only have like, these 6 actors so nothing can happen to them and you can't get new ones. So it's just big ugly robots, and then these 6 dudes.

But the robots never DO anything? Like they chase them, I guess, but they never kill anyone or anything? They just capture the entire population of all of the spaceships for a season and put them in an internment camp on Earth? And then they leave?

I don't know man, it was so fucking stupid I barely remember any of it, the more I try to.
>>
Stupidest thing about the ending is that ALL the remains of humanity is just ok with throwing away technology. lmao yea we don't need this medicine or drugs I'd rather live my life in pain and go back to 50% baby mortality.

>>
>>223746879
it was falling apart, the series was over, and thematically it let us know that they settled for realsies
>logistically
some of you autists don't have souls. it's insane how often viewers keep bringing up the stupid ship being sent off. i'm sure everyone in-show is eternally grateful to the ships for getting them here, but it was also a nightmarish existence and not everyone was on board a relatively luxurious cruise like galactica herself. whether they'll come to regret it or not they're happy to see the fleet gone. they've travelled as far as they spiritually could and galactica finally breaking her back felt like cosmic permission.
there are a million other things you can rightfully complain about regarding the finale and the last season in general, but it's always this specific symbolism that the fans bitch about. maybe i don't get it
>>
>>223748260
Yeah especially since they have cancer wards and shit, are the people currently in those hospitals okay with stopping their therapy and just dying in the meadow?

Thematically it's shit too, they literally achieved nothing.
>>
>>223748309
Especially since in such a high tech society it's guaranteed a large percentage of the population owe their lives to medical advancements, guaranteed some of them can't live properly without puffers or some other things like insulin, it's just a death sentence. No chance everyone would agree to that.
>>
>>223748289
it was a good spectacle, that's all i cared about. always skipped the opera scenes and hints about What It's Really All About
humanity needed to find a way to settle without having to worry about cavil hunting them down. they resolved that, so i walked away happy enough when i saw cavil eat his gun. and to think it all happened because tyrol unlocked the hive memory of tory killing his wife. i enjoyed the sudden personal brutality of it. it worked for me. the rest was just a bunch of cool action shit
>>
>>223748303
>the series was over, and thematically it let us know that they settled for realsies
you're retarded, they just needed to say so
they could have landed the ship or scuttled it for parts instead.
Not only does it not make sense literally (most of them will die due to preventable causes because the average living Age is now about 30) but also thematically they achieved NOTHING other than some blabble about a misunderstanding of what "mitochondrial eve" is supposed to mean
They could have all died in season 1 and nothing would change
>>
I feel like even if you were trying to live a hippie lifestyle in 20,000 BC Africa you'd remember stuff like germ theory and crop rotation that would really help you out and speed development along.

Also seems wild to merge with a bunch of cave people who will have totally different ideas about stuff like hygiene and sexual consent.

I suppose if they really wanted to stir the pot they could have had the BSG crew be the first humans in Europe and Asia. And this would actually line up with how they keep finding bones throughout Eurasia disproving the Out of Africa theory.

No, they didn't know how to end the series so they just went "uhhh god works in mysterious ways o algo, this all makes sense to god so don't think about it okay? he made a new earth or something idk" like okay PLEASE explain to me how it makes sense in your head for cavil, the guy that is explicitly an atheist and hates humanity, to make a new earth full of humans running around with sticks and stones, how does that god being cavil exactly explain his motivation here?

>>
>>223748236
You misremember some things but yeah it's mostly right.
I watched it because its a mystery as to how the humans are over there looking for "earth" and they have modern English forms of hebrew names like John but worship Apollo and Mythris and shit, but they never give a satisfying answer they just go "God did it or something" and its not even like a real god its just some god they made up. It's just crap.

Prehistoric earth was full of low hanging fruit though. Life without tech wouldn't have been the same miserable struggle it was on new caprica. Someone help me understand:

So the show ends with the people of the Galactica landing on Earth, giving up their technology, and scattering to the wind. Doesn't make sense, but sure.

But they then didn't DO anything, because they didn't pass on their culture, technology, knowledge, language, beliefs, or anything else, and just sort of disappeared into the proto-civilizational history of Earth.

So doesn't that mean that they functionally didn't exist at all? Like doesn't it mean that as far as continuity is concerned, they just may as well have not existed at all?
>>
>>223748685
But those shitty amazon tribes aren't living in the best parts of Brazil, they're living in the parts that are marginally capable of supporting humans. The Portuguese took all the good parts centuries ago.
