The first 4 films are relatively tight in terms of narrative, particularly 2, 3, and 4 as it takes place over the same weekend. If you're watching F13 for the first time I would suggest watching the first 4 before giving up.

4 > 2 > 3 > 1

After that, your mileage may vary. 5 has the best nudity and some interesting lore but among the goofiest actors/characters and a polarizing twist. 6 is either beloved or hated for the direction it takes the series. 7 was butchered by the MPAA, and has a very stupid ending... but it looks excellent and has some memorable characters. 8 has virtually nothing to offer in terms of the premise, should be called "Jason takes a Cruise." Introduces some very dumb shit and Jason becomes almost a cartoon character with constant teleporting and being invisible to victims. After that... don't even bother.

Skip Rob Zombie, watch the first film in the next trilogy... then stop forever. You won't find anything worthwhile.

anyone else that saw The Devils have audio trouble? I was in the best seats in the house and was straining the whole time to discern the lines of dialogue which made it hard to immerse.
Some of that was the mix and antiquated language didn't help but I fear, much as I love my locally horror-fan owned indie theater the acoustics are just not great sometimes. doubly unfortunate as they just acquired expensive 35/70mm film projector systems

I never wanted to see it. Now, I still haven't seen it to this day, and I'm totally happy not having seen Return of the Living Dead.

>Klaus Kinski
Completely unpredictable nutjob and psychopath. I've seen him in a few movies but mainly remember him from going berserk in interviews or on TV talk shows. I think quite a lot of people breathed a sigh of relief when he died. Cute daughter, though I heard she got abused at an early age. I last saw her in "To the Devil a Daugher" - she was 14 when that movie was shot, and she played an 18 year old nun.
>>
>>223821584
he's just misinterpreting the quote. all QT actually says is that he thinks it was written as a re-animator sequel, and that it wouldve been the best re-animator sequel, but that they rewrote it for notld. he never says anything about re-animator sequels being "increasingly terrible".

It's great, pretty low budget, but a really good Yuzna film. And Melinda Clarke was really hot. She did another horror movie Killer Tongue. I remember I liked it at the time, but that was over a decade ago, so it might not hold up to my memory. She was on that The O.C. show.
>>223821522
No, it was commissioned as a direct to video sequel to ROTLD and wasn't supposed to be anything else.
>>223821760
>jump on the band wagon
Russo and Romero had a legal dispute over who owned the rights to Night of the Living Dead. Russo won and that's why Romero could never use "Living Dead" in the title and simply called it "Dead" instead.

People may be getting confused because the story of ROTLD3 was planned due to Yuzna's disapointment that the Bride of Reanimator only appears at the very end of that film, instead of all the way through. Not because it was meant to be an actual sequel to it.

Also, his comment about O'Bannon jumping on the bandwagon doesn't really make sense. He wrote and directed ROTLD, but was hired to by John Russo who, as I said, owned the right to NOTLD. And I think he gave himself a "story by" credit on ROTLD, although he probably didn't write any of that movie, just took story credit since it was a continuation of NOTLD.

>The Invasion is the fourth film adaptation of the 1955 novel The Body Snatchers by Jack Finney following Don Siegel's 1956 film Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Philip Kaufman's 1978 remake of the same name, and Abel Ferrara's 1993 film Body Snatchers.

It is decent. Solid sets and interesting monster suit that is sadly not shown enough. Pic related is a concept statue. That long neck would work vastly better with modern animatronics or CGI.

The concept: (Intelligent dinosaurian beast the last survivor of a ancient galactic bug collection/zoo is released and can turn his victims into zombies to do his bidding) begs for a remake.

>I've never seen anyone put Part 4 at the top of the pyramid.
I've actually heard many people say they think OG Halloween is boring until the last half hour once the kills and chase sequences start and Halloween 4 starts out with Myers killing a bunch of people within the first 5-10 minutes so is "better paced" for those who just want to get straight to the action with lots of kills at the expense of everything else.

Lots of horror fans genuinely don't care about anything but kill counts and gore and chase scenes and jump scares, when all of that shit is a far cry from the old ghost stories and gothic tales of the macabre that the likes of Edgar Allan Poe, Shirley Jackson, H. P. Lovecraft, Robert Louis Stevenson and M. R. James used to write about. There is no desire for anything more than haunted rollercoaster rides from that crowd and they make up a considerably large portion of the audience of this genre sadly especially the younger generations.

All the stuff that actually makes you think, that stays with you after the screen fades to black, the stuff that maybe even keeps you up at night, that makes you look over your shoulder twice, gets shunned and mocked by those seeking instant gratification. "Horror" just means the same four things over and over and over again with no room for deviating from the same tired formula so that's why none of the great classics "holds up" in their eyes naturally.

Tarantula's missing out honestly the first ROTLD is easily on par with Romero's original trilogy in some ways it even surpasses them.
>>223821919
>Russo and Romero had a legal dispute over who owned the rights to Night of the Living Dead.
Nobody owns those rights because the distributor decided to change the name from Night of the Flesh Eaters to Night of the Living Dead due to the latter sounding a little too similar to another movie at the last minute and didn't update the trademark registration accordingly so the movie was in the public domain pretty much as soon as it released and neither Russo nor Romero made much money from it.

The idea that the zombies are still cognizant and have to eat brains to dull the unending pain of feeling your dead body rot is a real existential nightmare, at least in Romero's Dead universe, the person is dead and the zombies are just re-animated tissue.

Great flick
They really upped the notch with the concept of Scanners in this and mixing in the cop drama element was a smart move. Relating to the evolved concept the practical effects in this mogs the shit out of the original trilogy, which is especially crazy because most of them are only on screen for brief flashes.
Forgot to mention but the head pops look so painful in this series, for both the scanner and the person being exploded. And you get two head bursts for the price of one movie here.

not whoever that was, but I watched it recently. really fantastic looking film, great cast as well.
I don't think it was that well written though. they spend the intro setting Ichabod up as a man of science, but need to quickly turn him into a ghost hunter to make the plot move forward.
also the witches actions given her motive seems extremely convoluted. just send a "give me the house or my invincible horseman will kill you" letter and be done with it.

It's a solid 7-8/10 supernatural horror murder mystery with a great atmosphere and cast and period setting but as far as popcorn horror goes it's miles better than Conjuring slop and that's what we should've gotten more of instead of modern jump scare style shit.

As far as Depp goes his character was a detective first and foremost and his job was to solve the mystery of who the killer in the village was using scientific methods he developed on his own to catch a regular human to prove to his superiors they were still stuck in the past with lazy detective work and often forcing confessions from suspects by beating them instead of actual justice acquired through deduction and gathering of evidence, eye witness reports etc. but since the killer was a reanimated corpse science wouldn't be of much use after a certain point and it was down to simple detective work to deduce who then controlled the Headless Horseman which the oldguard in New York also didn't engage in which is in keeping with how they establish Ichabod's character and motivation in the beginning ie. he seeks true justice.

I don't think that was an issue in the plot as you're making it out desu and as for the killer's motive they were out for revenge not just money and power and how would they even guarantee the family wouldn't come back for revenge themselves if they just threatened them for their possessions and let them go on their merry way? If their plan had succeeded and every witness and family member had been eliminated it would've been the perfect crime as nobody would've been able to pin the murders on them, just some old local legend everyone was scared of.

I just thought setting him up as a man of science contrasted too sharply with the "nah the supernatural is real and half of this town can cast spells" place it quickly landed on. I'd have done the exact opposite, made him a detective who is conflicting with his peers because he has an open mind - i.e. make him Mulder instead of Scully.
The plot wasn't terrible it just seemed like sucking off multiple of the guys she hates and then faking her own death was elaborate given she's got the death note skull.

I don't even think it undercuts it, it's a continuation of the story it's just that it kills off some characters. you know, in these horror movies where people die?

Brooke Shields is dead

>read about the production
I know all about it. David Fincher was burdened by meddling execs and an unfinished script and made do with it. if you think it isn't good that's just your opinion lol
>>
>>223828429
you'll not convince him, he had his plebbit firmware updated with "Sensationalist prefabricated opinion #2375" and now can't uninstall it.
did you know, starwars was actually a flop that was saved in the edit by a woman
>>
>>223828464
your point is still retarded, I mean you can deflect but you're talking bullshit. some of the biggest scenes in the film are the autopsy of newt with ripley breaking down as well as the funeral for hicks and newts. it wasn't "paved over" it was a huge part of the movie
>>
>>223828229
I keep scratching my head whenever someone insists on seeing Aliens as some purely thrilling action movie full of Marvel tier quips and zero tension. There may be bits of humor in it and banter between characters which also existed in the original Alien but tonally it's still closer to T1 than T2. People really need to get over humor and yes action existing in horror movies too.

just say you're seething bro it's okay, you got filtered. I don't need others to give me my opinions, that's why I'm not just agreeing with your retarded take
>>
>>223828453
it's not the core plot of the film, it's side content fluff. The prison men not liking a woman on board, Ripley falling for the Doctor, the alien inside of her, the conflict between her and Weyland–Yutani etc, all of that stuff is what Alien 3 is about.
>>
>>223828470
it's the opinion of everyone who watched it and thought - "oh. that was a bit crap, guess no more alien films are coming".
and that was the case until 4 arrived and saved the franchise by being a work of art and genius.
>>
Recs for modern slasher movies that aren't meta/deconstructions/satires whatever? I've seen Terrifier and In a Violent Nature. They don't have to be that edgy
>>
>>223828513
>Aliens as some purely thrilling action movie full of Marvel tier quips and zero tension

>and the same guys who wanted that for Alien 3
I had no issue with Alien 3 being grim, but I didn't think it was. I thought it was the opposite, just ineffective.
>>
>>223828518

She's the titular character of one of the greatest sequels ever made plus her appearance is just iconic and instantly recognizable. Despite also being a monster she's very dainty and feminine compared to Karloff's hulking brute which also creates this beauty and the beast dichotomy.
