Make a wish is underrated here.
here, /cdg/, take cover under this. i'll protect you.
>>223853387Cute kot
>>223855013Is that Lu Yuxiao?
>>223855387yeah, love in the clouds.
>>223855622Wuxia or Xianxia? Can't tell from your screenshot if her face is blurry because its xianxia filters or just your pic.
you guys should watch seinfeld instead
>>223855636had to look those terms up. xianxia. lots of magic. are you saying that their fantasy shows use more filters?
>>223856160Yeah xianxia dramas use a lot more filters and make faces look blurry and smooth. All dramas use filters but they use the most to make it look ethereal
>>223855636Neither. It's more Xuanhuan than anything. Magical warriors but no cultivation or multiple realms with gods.
Do you think fertiity propoganda will show up in dramas? There's a not unsubstantiated idea that seeing affluent families with two children in soap operas helps bring down thirdie birth rates. Would glamorous idol couples with three children change anything in China? Will they select more fecund celebs for the new year gala? Hidden Love alreasy had Zhao Lusi marry right out of university. Easy to add a final scene of a harmonious apartment with 2.1 children a couple years later. Much to ponder.
>>223856160>>223856575As someone who reads a bunch of Chinese webnovels, I was under the impression that only difference between xianxia and xuanhuan is that the former is just fantasy in a straight Chinese setting while the latter can incorporate other elements.
>>223856630Xanxia is about mortals pursuing immortality through Daoist-style practice, aiming to transcend the world - or about those who already have. It's heavy on heavenly tribulations, spiritual realms, and ascension. Xuanhuan is the more general "fantasy" genre but Xanxia still often gets applied to shows it strictly shouldn't.
>>223856705I just keep it simple and separate it into 3 categories. Historical, Xianxia and Wuxia
NEED Chinese pussy bros
Modern dramas are the worst. It's abysmal the difference in quality between costume and modern dramas.
>>223857059They are pretty much fillers + they are harder to get past the censorship board
Recommend me some xianxia. Hopefully not romance focused.
>>223857239Good luck finding a xianxia without romance. Women love that genre with the fantasy setting, costumes and ofc romance.Only one I can think of is The Immortal Ascension though the cartoon is a better and more faithful adaptation of the *long* series of books. There's also Fate Chooses You (romance light) and Be Yourself (no romance because they cut out the harem).
>>223857397Yeah, even though most look like slop I watch a couple of xianxia donghua that are surprisingly. I was just wondering if something decent exists in live action.Immortal Ascension is Record of a Mortal's Journey, right? I've been meaning to get into it.
>>223857533*surprisingly good
>>223857533> Immortal Ascension is Record of a Mortal's Journey, right?Yup. The donghua is massively popular and has a huge budget. They mocap all the fight scenes with real martial artists and it shows.Best recent xanxia cdrama is probably Legend of Shen Li. It has romance but its done well and it's not one of the trite idol shows.
>>>/trash/
>>223857397The problem with most xianxia is that its just using the xianxia elements as a backdrop to a basic romance drama
Really enjoying Where The Mask Ends
Any recommendation for shows like Veil of Shadows?
>>223856575>cultivationisn't that just an euphemism for magic?
>>223856901who doesn't?
>>223858790fangs of fortune. same cast, same director
>>223857397>women love that genre with the fantasy setting, costumes and ofc romance.I'm amazed at chinese women having such good taste. reading through some of their dating profiles, i was surprised to see how many liked "science fiction." i couldn't find any examples of stuff they like in that genre though. i don't think there are many cdramas in that genre either.
>>223859225Did she mess with her face or something?
>>223853140Empress
>kisses you
>>223859225>>223859372What's with the bags under Chinese girls eyes?
>>223859372I think that one's fairly recent. i got it off an article on mdl the other day.
>>223859428they somehow do it with makeup, i think. very popular. it's grown on me. i think it's cute now.
>>223857059Modern dramas tend to have less plot, which means you get endless filler scenes with the characters having small talk and pointless arguments. don't like them either.
>>223859428In Korean its called an aegyo sal
currently watching the glory. got the same fl from veil of shadows and fangs of fortune. i really like her face
>>223853387did they fuck in the end? ive never finished it
>>223859715I dropped it after the first episode
>>223859715No. It was bizarre. Everytime he got a bit worked up he ran from her to spend the night drinking with his buddy
>>223859346While it's partly cultural with xianxia being a lot more mainstream than western fantasy, it's not just an eastern thing. A large part of the GoT audience was women and in the west the largest demographic of readers for fantasy books is also women.
>>223859916Western fantasy is so different from the chink version though. their women don't watch it for gore, on-screen sex, promiscuity. conversely, modern western women wouldn't be interested in a show with a wholly monogamous, devoted couple. The romance aspect is totally different.
>>223858310> just using the xianxia elements as a backdrop to a basic romance dramaTo be fair that's most shows.
>>223858736It's not doing anything new but it's doing it well, however Tian Xi Wei is carrying the show. She seems genuinely unhinged as the 'evil' version and it's a hell of a switch when the 'nice' one is in the next scene.
i enjoy seeing chinkettes in cute dresses and elaborate hairstyles.
>>223860519same. those dresses are moe
>>223860327huh. all the xianxia shows i've seen have had very elaborate plots and decent worldbuilding. there was genuine, non-perfunctory effort put into the non-romance parts of their stories. love in the clouds became more romance-focused near the end though.
>>223860456Agree and she carried Pursuit of Jade too
>>223860519
>>223859906what? so its blueballed until the end kek
i watch debate slop
>>223860582I mean *all* shows, not just xianxia are an excuse for a romance story.
We back at last. Gave me time to watch some episodes.
>>223860582Like 99% of them are based off webnovels, so it's not unexpected.
We are so back
>>223862459What did you watch?
>>223861440What is it called?
>>223853140
>>223862459same. just binge watching Pull Strings. how did i miss this kino?
now i know how Kira feels.
more chinese feet
>>223865400Did they moisturize it for this scene?
>>223865448no but I'd moisturize them daily
Is Pursuit of Jade any good?
>>223865898yes. its worth watching
>>223859376is that yuanzhao?
>>223865400Pretty sure I dropped this drama after the stair scene
>>223866300Does it have a happy ending?
/r/ing some imperial harem court dramas with some scheming (but hot) bitches
I was gonna ask if everyone here is a woman, but you are only posting women. Then again, I am fairly sure most of these shows, if not all, are made for women. So how gay are you?I live with a Chinese hottie. We watched a lot of Westerns TV and moves, and of course anime. Some Hong Kong movies. Never a drama. Lmao.
>>223868727>I live with a Chinese hottieNot your gf/wife? Scandalous.I just watch shows my SIL recommends, my brother's the one who married Chinese.
>>223868757Who would live with a woman and not fuck them? Yes, she is my girlfriend and soon to be wife. Yes, I am white.
We are currently watching a Mongol/Chinese drama but it isn't Cdrama.
>>223868513You have the 'big three' of the genre:Empresses in the PalaceRuyi's Royal Love in the PalaceStory of Yanxi PalaceYou get less of them now after the new regulations restricting such series. For some reason the CCP doesn't want depictions of women being bitches to each other despite audiences loving that.
>>223866722It is!
>>223869339
>>223867876The ending? Happy? Definitely. The middle? Not so much.
>>223869688Does it drag on?
>>223870229That's purely subjective anon. It's no faster or slow that most such dramas. If I had one criticism I'd say the last section of episodes once they reach the capital and the palace is slightly weaker than everything before it (which is kino).
>>223870388Tian Xi Wei is the reason Pursuit of Jade works. This woman is tiny and yet she pull off a latent badass. Once her fighting stopped in later episodes the character lost its oomph.Watching Tian Xi Wei in Where The Mask Ends and she carries this drama too. Though not a physical badass like in Jade.
>>223870544I can't disagree with anything you said. Have some shoulder blades in reward.
>pull stringsbig thanks for that recommendation.
apparently, china has jc actresses.
>>223871373this girl looks no older than 13-14. maybe 15.
>>223871373anon, touch some grass. no one but you knows what the means.
>>223871385hebes. middle-school-aged girls.
>>223871469Sure. Ai Mi was filming shows like The Double and My Journey to You when she was only 14.
>watch a show with sun zhen ni>have to wait for several episodes for her character to deign to show up>almost every time
>>223853140>Mia Khalifa cheap chinese copy
>>223871520
>>223872155Why is she acting like that in front of that tall girl?
>>223872136
>>223871520>>223872155I swear this girl has been in more hit shows and big budget productions before she was 16 than most actresses have in their entire careers. Whose dick did she suck?
>>223871520she's older in that pic though, right?
>>223872155cute mating dance
>>223872392It's a promo from her latest movie, the sequel to Shaolin Soccer. So 17 I think since she only just turned 18.
>>223872504i was watching her show the other day(Key to the Phoenix Heart). its supposed to be a romance show where she's married to the ml. There are no sexual or kiss scenes whatsoever. Imagine my disappointment.
>>223872548She was still underage when it was filmed so it wasn't allowed. Even then the show still a ton of online hate because she was clearly much younger than the ML.
>>223871381>the hebe from a hidden lovehas she been in anything else? did she grow up to be a pretty hag?
What is a modern Cdrama so good you'd recommend even to people not into Cdrama? Only such one I've watched is Pursuit of Jade.
>>223872787The holy trinity of modern romance cdramas>the first frost>when i fly towards you>hidden loveand Reset
Without the "modern" clause, Laughing in the Wind.
>>223872787The Bad Kids
>>223872787love in the clouds. newbies may struggle with some parts of the first episode, but after that, there's lots of objectively great intrigue and romance. there's a some drop in quality near the end though.
>>223872948>modern qualifieri missed that.
>>223872787I realized after asking that people here say modern to mean "contemporary setting", but I just meant recently made.
>>223872963>>223873032
>>223872380cute flat skelly.
>>223869439yeah i knowshe mostly does period shows so shes all covered but what a body
the slapstick humor and loud, silly ojisan in pull strings makes me think that young guys are part of the target audience. pretty unusual for a cdrama.
>>223875334yep, i thought the same thing. its a male focused cdrama with a lot of cute girls aiming at him.
I'm not convinced any of these are really worth watching above a braindead NPC viewer experience. I tried Blossoms Shanghai from Wong Kar Wai...the amount of camera cuts and weird angles in a simple scene of 2 people talking in the street drove me nuts.
>>223875622just turn off your brain.. no one is forcing you to watch this shit
>>223875622Have you tried The Long Season?
*cuts to them fucking like rabbits
>>223876312Unfortunately there are no sex scenes in cdramas
>>223853387She's dreaming of a BWC to replace him. that's why she has that look on her face.
>>223871381which is why 50 year olds look younger than 35 year old white womenThey age slowly
>>223877199No she looks that age because she is that age you moron
>>223853140JdramaKdramaCdrama?why are china not making tv kinos?
>>223878158You are in a cdrama thread right now
>>223872155>the ml actually kills his villainous enemiesbased>childhood frens story that doesn't end in marriageless based
>pull strings>that fight scene at the end of ep 3, which ends with the arrival of the wurmpretty cool. ngl I usually don't care for them.
>>223878540Well the whole harem plot got cut so he ends up with no one. The censorship only allows that depicted in series based upon real history, so palace dramas and the like.
>>223879353thanks for the spoiler. im gonna read the webnovel after finishing this
>>223864598>>223872155>Pull StringsIsn't this a remake of a donghua?
>>223879494Yes but both are adaptations of the same webnovel.
>>223879408You must be new to cdramas if you think that's a spoiler. It's obvious from the start, it's left open for who he ends up with and a season 2.
>>223879353>that spoilerfuck you.
>>223879353kek. the post you replied to is talking about the childhood friends from ep3. now hes mad >>223880182
>>223878158they literally only need to appeal to chinese people to be successfulchina has more people than the us and europe combined
>>223880305I did not mentioned what characters were involved or their fate. I'd say that's different from spoiling the most important part of the story. are you retarded?
>>223877163if simunlated sex were allowed, i think it'd degenerate the entire medium. stories would center around it. the quality of actresses would go down. wholesome, sweet qt's would not want go into acting and be seen as prostitutes. there'd be sweeney types who'd have on foot in softcore porn in cdramas. i would no longer daydream about them being my waifus.
>>223880387You are correct and outside media is subject to censure if not outright prohibited.
>>223880619I mean even the implied sex scenes are so tame and pg13
>>223881478Burning Ice probably had the most explicit one I've seen (implied nudity, clear movement) which isn't saying much. It was an earlier webdrama so it got away with some stuff it might not have today. They've gotten stricter with them over the years
>>223881849I'm talking about the scene before the implied sex scene
I like how, in love in the clouds, in the ep with the big reveal of yi's scheming and the confrontation between her and ji bozai, how she doesn't try to make excuses even though it might save her life and most of her actions are very forgivable with the full context. She feels too much guilt and regret to do so, and instead, takes full responsibility, looking him in the eye and sadly, clearly responding "yes" to all his accusations. She didn't even drink the life-saving cure with it in her hands for the same reason. One of her most charming moments. a s-tier heroine.
>>223882063thats my waifu. imagine coming home to this
her next show(When I Meet the Moon) is supposed to come out next month. its set in the same universe as Hidden Love and The First Frost. imagine the hype
>>223882274
I really want to complete Destined but I have started it 4 times and I can't get past the wedding episode.
>>223883480After the second time I wouldn't start from the beginning, I would pick from the episode I dropped it.
>>223883584Well I can't remember it after not watching for a while
>>223885603Are you still not done watching this?
Might start watching Chinese variety
Just started Moonlight and Esther Yu looks so different
>>223886242no, for what reason would I binge it? I just watch a couple episodes every few days.
>>223876312>a powerful, schemeing yet affectionate, good-natured, playful creature that's similar to humans but not quite the sameShe fits these roles so well.
>>223887387Is she much older?
>>223887781Nah she just has a different vibe than My Journey To You
>>223887504Yeah you're supposed to binge it if all the episodes are out
>>223886945where can you get this?
>>22389037628 yo chinkette virgins are difficult to charm.
don't die on me, /cdg/!
>>223892022I'm too busy watching reverse harem dramas to post here.
Is chinese dating male-dominated or female-dominated
>>223892264that looks and sounds korean.
>>223892288A healthy mix i think. it's certainly not wholly female-dominated like in the west.
>>223886945I can understand the appeal of the "cool girl" persona that many chinese girls are going for.
>>223892288theres more men than womenthese are the kids growing up from the one child policysome of these retards used to abort their daughters so they could get a son as "heir" lmaonow that boy is that last of his line
>>223892264That was such a bad show.
What cdramas are you watching, /cdg/? are you looking forward to anything in particular?
>>223893747I think it's pretty fun so far.
>>223894285There's nothing wrong with the start, it's what comes after that is the problem. The script and pacing become horrible.
