The 4K box set of Hellraisers I through IV is releasing this weekend, for those unaware.
I know I'm excited.
>>

>Then I watched Wishmaster 2 right after and it just felt like punishment
I like aspects of Wishmaster 2, but I don't like the whole prison arc where until he finally gets them to make the right wish, he just gets punked by prison thugs and looks like a little bitch compared to the first movie
>>
>>223882793
imo inferno's better than bloodline and the later movies combined but it's still not a fucking hellraiser movie.

I think for Inferno to be good you'd have to be in some kind of Schrodinger state where you were somehow a fan of Hellraiser, but for whatever reason the copy of Inferno you watched omitted "Hellraiser" from the title and thus you were able to watch a mid supernatural thriller without knowing that Pinhead was going to show up, and then he does, which would a pleasant surprise under those specific circumstances

I'm not sure specifically of any bonus feature differences just glancing between them, but that version is out of print to my knowledge and also a cheap-ish fold out case holding all four discs and a booklet.
This new one is 4 actual cases with the original poster art as a display option.

Animation is dreadful, but it had good horror moments (Even the comedy was below mediocre, but the horror was good enough). Maybe the manga is good. I know /a/nime, but i don't care, I expected way less than I got from here. (First episodes are meh tho)

Fair enough. To me, more cases is just more clutter and I'd rather have it be more functional and include extra unique content like the book, in addition to the more elaborate outer/inner shell design of the box.

My Review!
> Solid moody slasher set on a foggy lighthouse island (great setting).
> 2 overlong tense sequences with characters hiding & fate keeps making it more and more likely for them to be found, one in a restroom and one in a small boat with severed heads.
> The killer Leo Rook is decent, no mask or notable scarring but his skinny yet menacing silhouette is a regular sight in the film.
> James Purefoy is a solid tragic lead male figure, not nearly as great as he would be later in Solomon Kane but still good.
> Some striking angles and shots.

Great-ish

Very Good (the killer is menacing as fuck at times but that is diminished a little by a few Freddy style quips)

Good to Very Good-ish

Good (very moody with the fog shrouded island setting, rips off a key moment from FridayPart2 hard)

> Just Before Dawn
Good to Very Good

> The Mutilator
Decent to Good-ish (great kills, setting & nudity, very weak cast)

> The Burning
Weak (severely overrated, non menacing killer makeup, unlikable cast, only standout scene is the raft massacre)

> The Slumber Party Massacre
Very Good

> The Prey
Ok / Meh

> The Hitcher (80s original)
Very Good to Near Great

> The Hitcher (07)
Good

> Night School
Good

> Edge of the Axe
Good

> Camping Del Terrore / Body count
Decent to Good

Very Good (played with the nightmare killer concept 2 years before freddy, stormy island setting is cool)

The Mutilator
>cool logo and clever poster
>pretty dark setup
>simple but memorable location with decent atmosphere
>cheesy theme song
>laughable acting
>tits
>variety of weapons used
>some gruesome kills/gore, one of which is quite extreme
>satisfying climax
It's everything you could ever want in a (dumb) slasher. It doesn't have a cool costumed killer but I like that he's just some depressed drunk guy without any ambiguity.
>>
>>223882867
first, it has nothing to do with the moore run and is entirely based in the original len wein series
second, disregard it as an adaptation of the comics and enjoy it as a simple monster movie

HALLOWEEN 6

My review of both cuts.

Part 1!
> While like 5's mask the neck here is still a little too large the rest of the mask is a big improvement over 4-5 & h20.
> Anyone who dislike Myers's conflicted behavior and tears in 5 should be pleased with his absolute zero hesitation in killing Jamie in ether version of this film.
> I am not sure which version of Jamie's death I prefer. The weak stabbing & hospital assassination of the PC seems anti climatic for the character, but the farm implement shredding of the TC seems too mean spirited & brutal for a character we spent the last 2 films watching as a desperate sympathetic child.
> Seeing Loomis happy and almost at peace during his 1st scene is very nice and a big change of pace from the way we have always seen him up to this point in the franchise. This early sequence with him & Dr.Wynn is a longer and better in the PC (the film could definitely use more of their interaction & Wynn in general however)
> The TC stupidly cuts out Loomis's reaction to finding Jamie.
> Rudd is decent here, he gets a few sweet moment with Jamie's baby but overall is fairly emotionless (purposefully).
> There are a few moments towards the end of the TC were Rudd gets to show more emotion then in the PC, moments were he is clearly petrified and can't do anything but semi chuckle in despair.
> Marianne Hagan as Kara Strode is a likeable very sympathetic and motherly final girl.
> General editing in the PC is vastly better, the TC uses a very lame, very 90s style of showing abrupt harsh flashes of gruesome images jarringly between shots. Pace of the PC is slower and feels alot more franchise appropriate.
> The lighting is better in the PC.

HALLOWEEN 6

Part 2!

> Some absolutely beautiful shots throughout the film such as the long hallway shots inside Smith's grove or the final snot of Myers leaving the Asylum wearing the stolen Man in Black suit. (Would have liked to have seen a sequel with him wearing such + the mask of course)
> Scores are different, both are good but the PC has a more classical version of the theme & utilizes it's score better overall.
> The PC's handling of the cult and explaining their goals/motives is VASTLY superior to the TC, PC they rightfully stick purely to the supernatural & handles such with reasonable subtlety, the TC tries to make it about mad science & doesn't explain it barely at all.
> Scenes showing the connective tissue between 5's ending and this film are cut out of the TC.
> The operating room massacre is cool I guess but there is no reason given in the TC's story as to why Myers would turn on the cult out of the blue with nothing at all triggering that turn. Nor is it shown who/what the cult doctors were operating on when Myers interrupted.
> The TC's cut of John's death with his head exploding is ludicrous.
> Myers "defeat" by magic runes in the PC while not flashy or epic at all is a lot more believable and natural to the story up to that point then TC's defeat by having skinny ass Paul Rudd beat him with a pipe, regardless of what poisons Rudd pumped him full of before the beating.
> Ending fate's for Loomis there is no comparison, the TC is a absolute insult to Pleasence, ending the film with his off screen screams without explanation. The PC gives him a cruel but poetically appropriate ending.
> That said It's never explained why Wynn was giving up his position as Myer's handler (a throwaway line about him having cancer or something would have sufficed) nor why he would choose Loomis who is obviously older and more frail then him.

HALLOWEEN 6

Final Thoughts!

> Overall, the TC is a absolutely pathetic butchering of the PC which IMO is a full on good film. (far from perfect but good) Makes me wonder what is missing from the much more ambitious Hellraiser Bloodlines which I have heard was similarly edited to hell by the same company.

Horrible softcore sex "comedy". Watched because Adriana Chechik and Mary Carey are in it, and I was curious what a movie where they didn't suck cock was like. There aren't any zombies, just women who go into a trance and go into a "killing frenzy" (try to bonk people with tennis rackets) after unwittingly taking an experimental sex drug created by one of their scientist husbands. Everyone's cheating with everyone else and the movie is mostly long softcore scenes, with an unusual amount of simulated cunnilingus. There's a brief catfight at the end. You'd think something with the word zombie in the title would be a safe bet for October but this isn't even the teeniest tiniest bit horror related.

Rosemary's Baby is one of those movies I wish I could see for the first time again. It's more rewarding on repeat viewings when you know how it plays out and you're just admiring the details, but it was so exciting to see unfold the first time. The dream scene kind of spoils the ambiguity a bit which I still don't like, but everything else keeps you guessing until the end and it's so fucking well done.

I watched "The Hidden" (1987). The story is reminiscent of "The Thing" (1982) -- an alien inhabits and possesses human bodies and uses them to kill people. Once a body dies, it moves on to the next, which makes it hard to catch. And of course the police won't believe that that's happening. Unlike "The Thing", "The Hidden" takes place in Los Angeles where the alien can really run amok, kill a lot of people, steal nice sports cars and do a lot of damage. The plot is straightforward: Kyle MacLachlan needs to find it and kill it, he meets a lot of obstacles along the way. Solid movie, some iconic 1980s LA locations, and 80's punk rock music, which the alien likes to listen to while he runs people over in a stolen Ferrari. It's played like a straight crime story, but the alien, the body invasions and the high body count technically makes it horror. Comfy watch, 7/10.

I watched "The First Power" (1990). It's another movie based on the idea of a disembodied killer possessing people to commit murder. Only it's done rather cheaply - the killer "makes the possessed people look like him", so they only ever use on actor. They didn't pay permits for filming in the nice parts of Los Angeles, so they shot on Skid Row, in storm drains and in abandoned factories. Instead of having a sound track they paid Stewart Copeland to play some disjointed synthesizer notes from time to time. The plot isn't great either - a psychic tells Lou Diamond Philips that the killer is now a spirit, but together they just let the murders happen one by one, they don't ever have a plan how to stop him - until the final 15 minutes of the film, when a nun reveals that the killer can only be killed by a crucifix that is also a knife. Which they then don't use so that the killer can return and they can fight for another 10 minutes down in the storm drains - complete with flammable, exploding water. 5/10, other directors/production companies could have made more of this core idea. Actually, make that 4/10, because they didn't even get the fucking title right. The 1st power is, according to the nun, the power of resurrection, which the killer doesn't have. He has the 3rd power of possessing people, so the movie should be called "The Third Power".

Fear Street Part 3 1666-Ended predictably but well. Main characters had too much plot-armor and the VVitch trial stuff dragged on a bit long, but everything got resolved and I saw some sizzling ass so the trilogy was worthwhile. Sorta underrated due to being on Netflix.

>>223886411
Yeah, there's definitely worse horror movies out there, but I felt a bit annoyed while watching it. Partly because of the "music", partly because Lou Diamond Philips' character is an asshole, partly because the plot seems aimless most of the time. It was an interesting travel back to a time when there weren't any cell phones, when you could (and Philips would) smoke absolutely anywhere, and when bum encampments weren't littering all of downtown Los Angeles.

You didn't miss much in the last 20 minutes, they didn't really make sense, but I guess they just somehow needed the movie to end, so there's a crucifix with a blade that's somehow magic and water explodes when you drop a lighter in it.

She's experiencing the firsthand story of the witch, she's not actually a negroe in colonial America. It's just there for the audience's sake, same with most of the prominent villagers being played by dead characters from the movie.
>>

>Bridgerton
I heard in the news about a disastrous "Bridgerton Event" in Detroit that a black lady had organized. Or failed to organize. (Mostly black) people paid hundreds of dollars for tickets and arrived in 18th century robes only to find an empty factory hall, and somebody had set up an iPhone and a bluetooth speaker "for ambience". So I had to look up what "Bridgeton" was, shook my head, and sighed deeply.

I get that. I think it's already such a schizoid film that it totally makes it though. An all time death.
>abrupt harsh flashes of gruesome images
>The operating room massacre is cool I guess
>having skinny ass Paul Rudd beat him with a pipe
Again some of my all time favourite horror content, because it just gives me the creeps. I don't expect others to understand (though TC has it's fans) but the fact the film is a mess creates something else entirely. Michael really just butchers people like he wandered into another film and is trying to ruin the plot. This bizarre empty hospital exists but there's a completely unexplained, obscure surgery happening, it's surreal. You just don't see films take the time to have content like that.
The whole ending sequence is a nightmare really. Including Rudd having to beat Michael to death, his eyes then spill green liquid in more completely unexplained phenomena.
I think TC vs. PC comes down to plot vs. visuals. If you're into Italian nonsense it hits the spot.

Not at all. Trying to cash in from the religious horror theme? Maybe. But the Omen is an all-time classic and a distinct movie. I wish other movies could "ape" so well.
The blasphemy is more subdued, it's subtle and implied, compared to the Exorcist. The movie feels like a proper adventure, in the same vein as 50s and 60s mega-productions and all the horror is left to be carried with the viewer in the moments that Damien's destiny starts to flesh out.

Wait a fucking minute. This is a romantic comedy. I got tricked into watching a romcom.

It's on my re-watch list.
>>
>>223889719
you need to also spin in a circle for full immersion

Shredder was a lot more fun than I was expecting. YMMV though.

Break as well I'd also add Snowbeast in spite of itself.

Just imagine if men like Jean Rollin or Jess Franco still existed today.
>>
>>223890092
They just need to let real people make movies again instead of an anointed few.
>>
>>223890092
they exist they're just discriminated against by the walled garden imperial czars of production

But as anon said, indie films have never been cheaper and more accessible. The barrier to entry is basically non-existent.
You're not even beholden to the hollyjews to get distribution any more, you can just upload your shit to a website.
We simply just do not have the calibre of filmmakers any more.

>But I've seen Chucky's movies
In Child's Play he's terrorizing a tiny woman and her even tinier child and he fucking loses lol. I'd rip his shit in half instantly and then burn him in my furnace. He weighs less than one pound and he can barely break skin with his plastic doll teeth.
Other than voodoo he's feeble

Low budget movies still cost a few million unless you're just going to film your friends walking around in a forest.

No that was the acid/poison Rudd injected into Myers before he beat him with the pipes.

After reading this I believe you're either extremely naive or you're attempting to be deceptive intentionally.
>>
>>223890151
You're right and wrong. Yeah, technically entry barrier is low and people can make stuff with relatively cheap equipment, but the idea that you can "just upload it to a website" is crazy. There's so much shit out there nowadays, theres almost no organic discovery of things anymore. "Just make good stuff and they will come" doesn't work anymore, studios spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on marketing and have teams dedicated to shilling stuff and it still does horribly and doesn't get seen.

Chucky isn't gonna fight you head on. Chucky is scary because he's a smart cunt with voodoo magic who is gonna frame you for crimes and hide under a bed so he can slice your achilles tendon.
One of his best kills is in Child's Play 3 where he just replaces paint rounds in a military school exercise with live ammo.
>>
>>223890289
He wouldn't even be able to get inside my house
He lost a head on fight with a tiny woman.
I'd rip him into tiny pieces in seconds and put him in my fireplace.
Or one of my large dogs would chew him up.
>>
Hey guys, keep the thread alive for me will ya, I gotta go quickly and check the circuit board in the basement, I'll be right back, don't make a new one yet.
>>
>>223890408
He's just cut your car's brake lines or set your house on fire, dude.
>>
>>223890457
You keep giving him omnipotence. He lost to a tiny old woman.
>>
>>223890457
>brake lines are cut
>get into car in garage
>press clutch and brake to start car
>the brakes give out
>oh I guess I don't have brakes
>turn car off
or WORST CASE SCENARIO
>realize I have no brakes after backing out of my driveway
>pull hand brake
>OH NO THAT'S NOT WORKING EITHER
>car continues rolling backwards at 3mph
>turn engine off
>car stops
>>

It took four people to kill him in Child's Play 1.

god i fucking wish. i like to think i'd make movies like that, but who would agree to it aside from literal pornstars? and it would have to be self-financed since no one would greenlight it. it would just end up being more tubi slop.
>>
>>223891442
I guess it depends how far you're willing to stretch "literal pornstar" but given the explosion of women willing to make money off softcore content whether it be onlyfans or just instagram/tiktok I feel like it wouldn't be that difficult to round up a couple hot girls with marginal acting abilities and down to show skin
I more have a hard time believing many people like Jean Rollin exist these days, the kind of person whose immersion in a mix of low and high culture from childhood (mf literally grew up around Georges Bataille and Maurice Blanchot) allows them to bridge the gap between schlock and art sensibilities in a completely sincere way

I watched the Masters of Horror episode "Cigarette Burns" by John Carpenter and while I liked the concept of the plot, everything about the episode reminded me of why I hate 00s horror. Also Reedus' acting sucks shit.
Is the rest of the show like that?

alright, time to hunker down and really watch
