>mfw I get to see Midsommar and The Departed on the big screen this weekend
>8 more days to Halloween
Anyone seen Fulci's The Black Cat? It's crazy
>>223892952Whatever happened to Ari Aster anyway? I thought he was supposed to be the next big name in horror after how successful Hereditary and Midsommar were, and then he stopped making horror movies
>>223892981if i answer this question it will derail the thread
For me, it's The Cat (1992)
>>223892952lol, I was just thinking about cancelling my Midsommar ticket so I could stay home and watch more gutterslop.>>223892981he only used horror as a foot in the door but then his non-horror movies flopped hard and he really really doesn't want to go back to horror and is mostly producing other stuff that flops.

>line for auditions for the role of the black cat in Tales of Terror (1962)
>>223892875if you're looking for disgusting horror you've probably never seen, I recommend ASWANG (1994). a wealthy family of weird-ass, creepy vampires, these Aswangs (Filipino vampires that eat unborn children) subject a pregnant woman to a night of terror, in a Texas Chainsaw Massacre/Argento giallo final-girl kind-of way. It's a little rough around the edges but pretty solid, pretty gross. no wonder it remains so obscure. good luck finding it. worth seeking out.
>>223893039Interdimensional being needs a perfect human host in order to possess it and use it as a way to communicate with and influence humans more completely. The people that worship it create an organized religion that it used as a way to amplify the group's plan to find a host. The plan is to create this man out of their own shared consciousness. They agree to what he looks like and what his origin story will be. He needs to have faced severe trauma in order to be at peak readiness for the god to possess him. The entire film we see with the protagonist is just him being led to the god's current host body that is failing. He's only been alive for a very short period of time, but the made up backstory the cult gave him when they summoned him made him believe he's a real person. The cult accomplishes it's mission, the end.

>>223893196one of the best horrors of recent years. reminds me of Mothman Prophecies. those two would make a perfect double-feature
>>223893260It reminded me of the film Race With The Devil in terms of just how fucked the protagonist really is without them ever having any real clue. I need to watch Mothman Prophecies again, haven't seen it in decades. Solid stuff.
>>223892906barf!
Is there any Barkeresque /hor/ kino out there that I should know about?
Rings (2017) vs The Grudge (2019)Which reboot attempt was worse?
>>223893333>I need to watch Mothman Prophecies again, haven't seen it in decades. Solid stuff.it's in my top horrors. incredibly strong, fine-ass movie. and to think, upon my initial viewing of it, many years ago, in my teens, i disliked it because i was all like "but wheres da MOFFMAN!!?" because i wanted a goofy-ass, materially physical cryptid. so fuckin cringe of me. nah dawg, it's all about the metaphysical. Picnic at Hanging Rock is very metaphysical as well, but that's a very different vibe, which also makes for fine October viewing, in my estimation.
>when he plugs in the HDMI cable
>>223893567wish we had a glimpse of her guranteed lush bush.
>>223893544Picnic at Hanging Rock, pristine atmosphere notwithstanding, has too many loose ends to fully function. Mothman Prophecies, on the other hand, is excellent altogether.
I just got back from the Sitges Film Festival, a horror and fantasy festival. I saw a few movies.Teenage Sex and Death at Camp MiasmaIt had some good ideas, like reviving an ’80s franchise, the theme of the protagonist’s sexual preferences, and the meta-cinematic concept involving the villain. But in the end, all those ideas don’t come together into anything coherent that makes sense.4/10
>>223893216I love these things, have one for Sukkubus but it has nudity and the jannies are fags about that here i've heard. >>223893544Picnic had incredible music and atmosphere. it put me in a trance, very few films outside of Kurosawa and Jean Rollin have ever managed to make me feel that way
RiverBest slasher in years. 3 siblings are being chased by a half-naked guy wearing a mask near a river.Good atmosphere, good acting, good action, good final boss.8/10
>>223893802The movie makes more sense when you realize that it's just the tranny director talking about himself through the lead actress and the movie itself had no other reason to exist
NightbornFolk horror mixed with motherhood trauma. Kind of ripof of The Omen.Ron Wesley is on it. The main actress is good tho. Overall kinda meh. 5/10
>>223893899I turned this off within 15 minutes
>>223893899He even looks like a beta provider in the poster. I am gonna pass. >>223893862Okay, I will check this out
Barker by way of Nippon. Phenomenal genre hybrid starring early career Bradley Cooper. Gorgeous cinematography.
>>223893425I never saw Grudge 2019, but Rings on its own was awful. The best part was just the ending, and Paramount clearly knew this since they shoved it all into the trailer.
UpiroSome nuns are disappearing from a spanish convent.Bad acting except for the monster that is Javier Botet, a spanish actor that play lots of monster roles cause his desease. Atmosphere aint that horrible tho.4/10
HopeKorean action movie with some strange monster destroy the city and chasing people. Too fucking long, chasing scenes are like 30 minutes long... Too much nonsense action. And its 3 hours. And the story of the monsters is not even fully explained, looks like there is gonna be a sequel. 6/10
lol, why is a film festival showing so many films that are out already
>>223894074This is 6/10 but>>223893899 betacuckslop is 5/10. Post your income
Measured, relatively tasteful approach to the rape & revenge genre. Claustrophobic, alienating, and very tragic.
No Rest For The WickedIts Brokeback Mountain meets Pet Semetary. Its filmed in Faroe islands and the landscapes are beautiful. The story its not that bad. Its too gay tho.6/10>>223894086There are several sections in the festival, you got films not yet released or just released, you also have the release of 4k Braindead with Peter Jackson presenting the film. It was kind of cool.
>>223894147Kek. Hope might be /tv/'s biggest IQ filter of the year.
>>223894179>Brokeback Mountain meets Pet Semetary>Pilou Asbæka fingah in the bum?
>>223893899The main actress is scowling, mannish and overall unattractive on the poster. The husband is standing behind like an obedient cuck.
>>223893966I'm sure Clive Barker experienced many a 'midnight meat train' in his life
Never After DarkGood J-horror film. A medium do an inception into the layers of the dark side where ghosts live. Very enjoyable.6/10>>223894193I was expecting more from the director of The Wailing honestly
>>223894255I had very high expectations, and Hope exceeded them with ease.
KakeruNot horror but scifi. Ripof of IA from Spielberg but with japanese.I love the director Koreeda but this film wasnt that deep or emotional like others.4/10>>223894294Explain me why, for me its just 3 hours of action chasing scenes. THe story is not even fully explained.
Grotesqqque3 anime episodes film. Loved the first and second one, very goreish with stuning animation. The third one is a little bit boring but ok.7/10
>>223894193>>223894321Hope is an action movie and it did what it was trying to do. Seeing a homogeneous movie probably triggered you. You probably wanted divorced single moms and betamale characters and africans.
>>223894321If it was a Hollywood movie with girlboss and weak male bumbling characters, you would have like it more.
>>223893966Okay you've convinced me, I'll watch it this weekend
>>223893899This cuck gave cuckslop 5/10
CompanyMy favourite of the festival. Directed by Cassey Affleck. Good story, good acting, good photo. It's the story of a girl who tells a tale that, in turn, tells a tale. Lovely film.8/10>>223894373>>223894436I like action movies too, but 3 hours of chasing scenes is boring. For me it was very hollywoodish, and thats the problem. I prefered korean ghost movies better that Marvelish aliens.I bet you like Guardians of the Galaxy
>>223894488Low test cuck
>>223893711>too many loose ends to fully function.I don't want to restart an argument from a month ago that went nowhere, but half the reason the movie functions is BECAUSE of the loose ends.
>>223893862damn now i want to see this, getting really good reviews and had a bidding war. probably won't be available online for like half a year though
>>223894321You're confusing story and plot, it's 150 minutes, not 180, and the ~30 minute middle portion of the film that's sandwiched between the two massive action set pieces, while still delivering tense scenes, serves as enough of a tension break. I loved the film for its intelligent structure, its incredible camera work, its brave manner of VFX spectacle, its contrasting scenes of violent action with questions regarding ethicality, and also its well-placed humor. A 10/10 for me.>>223894373Didn't have to reply to me like that, bud.
>>223894373Even an action movie has to make sure to keep the action exciting. It's clear early on that the guns do virtually nothing, so there's no stake in them shooting. There's nothing to accomplish. A lot of the times, the aliens aren't even dangerous. A guy will get flung 50 feet into the air, crash against a tree, fall to the ground, and then stand back up and say "ow"
>>223894587This cuck is dissecting an action movie but lets wokeslop and cuckslop get a pass. I never hear you talk about weak male characters, girlbosses or blacks or other woke stuff in movies.
>>223894617I never hear you talk about horror movies.
>>223894623You’re a weak cuck beta so seeing an intense action movie with homogenous casting triggered you.
>>223894531>Forget it, Jake... it's Hanging RockJust doesn't work for me in this case
>>223894656Kek, to each their own
I'll post the rest of the films later>>223894521i love when babies cry>>223894580I give you that, for me its a 6/10 tho, actions scenes are really good, but i needed more lore and they give you so little.
>>223894587>A guy will get flung 50 feet into the air, crash against a tree, fall to the ground, and then stand back up and say "ow"It's pretty safe to say the Fassbender alien didn't try to kill the hunter protagonist in the scene you're referring to. It follows the shootout the hunter protagonist actively tried to avoid but broke out nonetheless because of the other hunters opening fire on the aliens. It's also not true that the guns can't kill the aliens, as is established at the end of the first altercation with one of them.

Yeah, if you hadn't figured it out I am watching the Crystal Lake memories. Wow, the series was actuslly filmed in the original town and the councilors killed originally in 1958 were really called Barry and Claudette.

>>223890197>No that was the acid/poison Rudd injected into Myers before he beat him with the pipes.I mean, I get that was probably the implication. But again it's strange nightmare logic, he gets half a syringe of mystery green goo in the back and it turns his blood green.
>>223893418Did you watch The Midnight Meat Train?Jacob's Ladder?
>>223893966Oh some other anon mentioned it heh. I agree I really liked it. Somewhat marred by the CGI but the rusty, grimey, Barker feel was on point.
Done with Stickman's Hollow, I actually liked the movie a lot, until the last chapter that was way too stupid and disappointing, I don't know why I was expecting something like the sister gathering a big group of people to tackle the forest in search for the others only to end with a massacre, or after they just ran into the forest alone in the most stupid way possible to reveal something like the husband being part of a cult or something, I don't know, SOMETHING.I really need a new horror kino that stays good to the very end...
>long lost Tobe Hooper movie goes straight from VHS to blu-rayWe live in a golden era of home video. I'm excited for this one (Night Terrors)
This was fun!
>>223896031I thought the ending was decent, it's the standard Blair Witch Project approach. Almost all of the time when people pull one of those endings in FF it feels like it turns into a VHS comedy horror.
>Sean Cunningham puts an ad in Variety to get potential buyers/funders for his movie>Is actually picked up by the same producers as his last film

Wizard of Darkness was fun. How are the sequels? I know there are a ton of them.
motherfuckers are eating klingon food
>>223896248incredibly funny way to start the film
>>223896132I think the people at the Blair Witch movie were already too deep into the shit to leave, while in this movie the sister was like on another country, having a great life, like 5 years after everyone disappeared inside the ULTRA DEATH FOREST, but immediately taking a private jet or whatever to get to the ULTRA MEGA DEATH FOREST after a silly phone call, for the very least if she was THAT curious about the phone call she could have go with a team of mercenaries or something, just saying, 2 very different settings in my opnion.
>>223892875Speaking of catkino, should I watch this?
>>223896287Nah I agree that part was stupid. At least from the "film watching" perspective. IRL people do dumb stuff all the time and have no reason to believe a forest will kill them, but when you're watching a movie you want the characters to not be retarded within the context of the film.

>>223896425Yeah
So I've watched Nightmare Sisters, a straight to video movie from 1988. If you ignore the dumb intro, this was a surprisingly fun little low budget comedy horror, featuring three scream queens that were in a bunch of B-movies from the 1980s: Linnea Quigley, Brinke Stevens, and Michelle Bauer. It also features lots of tits and a great bubble bath scene that goes on for 5 minutes for no real reason. Not that I'm complaining.
>>223896398not the best but the kills are fucking awesome, probably the best in the series, no?

Yeah, it's about a fucking werewolf. I didn't watch Wolf Man, so I can't speak on its quality so I would say that this is the definite modern werewolf movie. Also, I like the twist of the curse persisting after death, that's a cool gimmickIt's nothing outstanding, it's a straightforward monster flick not down bogged in trauma/therapyshit. Complete use of practical effects as well, which is exceptional. I definitely enjoyed it and Deborah Ann Woll (ha), was the second to the monster as the movie's defining aspect.

If you listen closely around the point she's grabbing the hammer, you can hear whispering voices rapidly saying julia julia juliajuliajulia (meaning: do it do it do it do it join us join us, etc).
>>223899220How come they age so poorly?

Lights Out is the poor man's Darkness Falls.
>>223899242They're meant to attract mates and reproduce when young. The loss of peak beauty shortly after this period is meant to humble them, so that they devote their attention to domestication and attending to their young children, thus fulfilling their function within the species.
>>223899069Have you seen Argento's films? Evil Dead Trap is very reminiscent of them. Unironically, the western film that reminds me most of it is Kolobos since it's about a death house and is also Argento worship.
The ftm in this movie does not pass
>>223899503Thought you were trying too diss my girl Alyssa there, then re-read and noticed it's "ftm," not "mtf." Is that real? Or were you shitting on some low-T manlet?
>>223899468I haven't thought about that movie in a decade easily. Kind of the proto Backrooms where they tried to take a 3 minute youtube video and turn it into a full length horror movie
>>223899598The brother who DJs and finds the necronomicon was not always a boy
>>223899486It did not humble them, it made them mad. And they didn’t marry or have kids in their peak beauty years, they walled then got married.
>>223898813Watched this the other night. It was about as good as it could have been I think

>officially on vacation for the rest of the monthYup, it's kino time.
>>223899984>AI treatment What? I watched the version on prime video and it looked great.I looked it up, any AI-upscale versions are fan-made, and not the official 4K release
>>223896803hot
>>223900048Entirely likely, I just meant I watched a 4K version with AI upscaling and it's not the best version

Hammer is overrated. American International’s gothic phase in the 60s mogs.
>>223894373>homogeneousbut that's not how they see us, among them they are all different from one another and we look all the same
Watch Oddity (2024)Very solid film, spooky, unique, some effective jumpscares. Not perfect by any means but overall very well done, as good or better than any 2020s horror I've seen so far
>>223900843MAN BAD
>>223898407>>223897068yeah I loved it. zombie werewolves are a cool concept. Also I'm glad Michael Westen is still getting jobs

What are the best scarecrow horror movies?
>>223900323make me
>>223901033WHITE man bad
>>223900117I watched They Look Like People. It was tense, but not very scary. The ending felt a bit too objective for what the rest of the film was setting up.
>>223901042FIRE BAD
This was a funny movie, simply for the fact that the main protag, a woman, is forced into the cuck chair. I wish they did more with the whole 13 split personalities thing like with Split, and they kinda ripped off The Exorcist for the ending.

its 00s remakes week. the crazies, house of wax, f13, tcm, etc. maybe the last hurrah before contemporary culture ruined fun.
