God this episode Resolutions is infuriating. Janeway and Chakotay are left behind because they're infected with an incurable virus and Tuvok is now captain and this fucking glue-eating crew is about to mutiny because Tuvok is following Janeway's obvious instruction not to contact the alien race that harvests organs and has tried to kill them all at every time they've met.

thats not it at all. Janeway was the one who said to just call her Kathy like the second they were left there. she's grossed out with Chakotay because of how easily he gave up ever finding a cure.

Weird that Riker was willing to flush his career down the toilet for this twink while Troi was right there the whole time serving on the same damn ship even meaning he could have both his career and a love life if he wanted.
Almost feels like they wrote the episode with the premise in mind but couldn't figure out which crew member to center it and just settled on Riker as the only viable option.

Honestly I just want to see 1 classic TNG/DS9 style episode, produced with AI that gets far more positive reception than all of Nushit, to prove the point that all the retards who kept saying this past decade "Trek needed to evolve for modern audiences" were completely fucking wrong.

Correct me if I’m wrong (and I’m not checking memory alpha or rewatching the episode out of sequence) but wasn’t the episode where the Vorta had psychic powers all part of some elaborate trick that the founders were using to try and assess the federation and Odo’s mind state? It could have been part of the ruse to muddy the waters and keep the feds guessing. Or maybe the writers just sucked, I dunno.

No you're thinking of the other episode where they kidnapped the DS9 crew, took them to their underground dungeon on their goo planet and did mindrape experiments on them. The one where that Vorta has psychic powers was the very first time they met a Vorta and she lied about fleeing from some planet that was taken over by aliens.
>>
>>223890123
Sickly sweet, like being smothered in honey.
>>
>>223895486
Yeah you’re right it was different episodes, but even so the one where the chickie Vorta had psy-powers was also the founders messing with the feds trying to suss them out, yeah? I’d prefer to believe that it was intentional rather than the writers backpedaling after making them too powerful.

The truth is they didn't know what they were doing with the Vorta until they cast Jeffrey Combs. They knew they wanted the villain faction to be made up of 3 races and the general archetypes of each race but that was about it. The way he played Weyoun 4 was totally different than what Behr had in mind and he loved it so much they contrived bringing that character back by making Vorta into clones which I'm sure you well know.

I’m watching it right after TOS (my first Trek) and I was shocked how authentic it all feels to the original. The biggest change is actually the shorter run time, which sometimes works in an episode’s favor. Thusfar, no stinkers, my least favorite episode is Tribbles II for being a bit derivative. I enjoyed Mudd III though, based character. Yesteryear is the best so far but I’m a bit biased on the Spock wank. The excitement is building for the movies next… Trek is so comfy.

I just started watching it semi-recently. I never gave it a chance before, only watching through all classic Trek a couple times--I think it might be my favorite series of the entire Rick Berman era.

I've finished the first season of DS9 Laserdisc HD. Some of episodes were done 3 times over due to modifying workflows, but I think it turned out pretty well. A few of the later episodes in the season were pretty shit source quality with blurry scenes which is unfortunate. I think the quality of the LD and DVD improve as the series goes on though.

I'll be putting up a torrent within the next few days, and will continue to upscale and release season by season.

This is the episode I always associate the Danger theme with, even more than Arena, because of this classic Simpsons scene: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jPlLLqkM3XU
The episode's plot can be summed up as "waiting for the situation to be fully explained, waiting for the Enterprise to show up, Three Glowing Brains in a Glass Dome, Kirk's epic three-on-one fight, and a bittersweet goodbye." This feels like a season 1 script that got held over, even though I know that's now how the production timeline for the show works. I mean that in a complimentary way, the tone of every scene feels like what it would've been like if Scotty & Uhura were written as real people that early on. Even Chekov's comedic scene with Tamoon has that same quality to it. I keep wanting to call it innocence, naivete, or amatuerish, but none of those feel right. Fresh feels close but still not right, I just can't place it.
It's most obvious with Kirk's two big speeches: the one he has with Shahna on their hike through the ruins outside the arena (about Space Travel, Freedom, & Love), and the one with the Providers where he preys upon their petty vices of Greed & Vanity to set up his wager for all the Thralls. I really liked the reveal of the Provider's true appearance, it's novel that such a powerful trio are simply one of the intervening stages between Man & Organian. Beings of pure thought still stuck in a fleshy prison, their intellect (as Kirk himself says) wasted on gambling with Quatloos they'll never be able to spend just for the pride of having defeated their fellows. It's such an out-there idea that it doesn't even map as a satire of capitalism.
The Enterprise half of the story is decent but could be a little stronger. Obviously not a real mutiny, but maybe a scene with Bones & Scotty having some words without Spock between them. Though they're both very straightforward men, so I couldn't imagine what they'd say to eachother that they wouldn't confront Spock with.

Starling is such a great spoof of Steve Jobs and the satire is still relevant today with the Elon Musk generation of techbros. I'm surprised the woke-trek people haven't talked about it.

I think what I hate so much about this is that in TNG Picard was actually pissed off at Q interrupting their mission and had to be dragged into Q bullshit basically with a gun to his head. Of course the interactions got more lower stakes over time but Picard had set the tone for how he was going to deal with Q that made Q understandably kind of fixated on him to the point where he even went after Picard's sloppy seconds. Now in Voyager they're just like "oh boy now's our turn to have one of these "Q encounters" I've heard so much about!"
