Hello guys, finally got around to actually watching films you told me about and in general. I feel like a pleb but I have liked all of them? Great experiences, i dont wanna overanalyze stuff too much but wow i love film now.Loved the devils, already posted last thread some others I watched, i liked some other criterion core tier picks. then i watched fun flicks like top gun againi dont know what to watch now, also im no longer gooning all day so i can finally watch stuffi did watch camp miasma again to see if i get it....i dont get it but that guy is right, amanda fix is kinda cute

>>223893187Lists / charts on LB / RYM, and sometimes the odd rec on /film/.
>>223893187I want the site to effort post throughout this thread, but as a youth I was about seventeen years old when it was 2009 and I discovered film through Blockbuster. It was through stuff like 310 to Yuma and the Rocky movies where I first discovered stuff. And then the next level up was IMDb, specifically the top 250, which as a reminder, we are now in like the 2010 era, right? So it's not as bad as it is today. So the IMDb top 250 got through stuff like, you know, Shawshank and the David Fincher stuff, The Godfather stuff, all that kind of stuff. Then from there it was basically whatever was on Netflix Instant, which back in the day, you know, like 2009 and 10, it was really good. They catered to cinephiles and they had stuff like classics in our house. It was much different. And then from then on I think it was around like 2011 where I discovered Sight & Sound or actually it was they shoot pictures, don't they? The top 1000. And I was getting stuff from there for a very long time. And then, you know, I eventually ran into the BFI. And then I started using the BFI a lot. But in the 16 years I've been doing this, I have realized that every canon list is just absolute and utter garbage
>>223893244well the LB lists, most of them I check aren't exactly quite good at their job, I saw this one psychosexual films or whatever, yeah that thing is packed. They threw everything in there it seems to me

>>223893303I liked i saw the tv glow alright, i liked that one so i thought to give it another chance and oh well what can i say>>223893394RYM went to shit a long time ago
>>223893394Only 666 ratings... it will fall down the charts as time goes on.Also, there's a possibility that it's all paid shills. Chaotic Good heavily shilled the Geese album from last year on 4chan, Reddit, RYM, etc., but if you notice the RYM rating trend, it's gone downhill since the whole fiasco got exposed. I don't think it's rare for cinema to get shilled in unethical ways.
>>223893430>RYM went to shit a long time agoKinda, but it still mogs any other music / cinema / vidya site by a landslide. The retardation is mostly zoomers from Discord forcing shit like nu metal into the charts, but how is that different from retarded zoomers from Discord forcing /mu/ to be shit? It's just general retarded Discordfag behavior.
>>223893369>I have realized that every canon list is just absolute and utter garbage>>Why?No, none of them are any good. There's just so much crap and so many lists and it is just not worth sifting through all this garbage when you can just watch that interests you personally. Like for example, there's just every list that's plagued with personal bias, especially the 2022 BFI list, which is possibly the worst, the worst list in history, I would argue. Although they have never been perfect, even from the outright. They have always had bad inclusions, stuff that didn't make any sense and did not belong. I can probably think of a bunch. But it's pretty obvious they all stick out and they have all been talked about to death on here. So it would be very superfluous, very redundant to get into all of that. But the main point, the main takeaway here being that it's better to just go off of your own personal taste first because that's all that really is going to matter at the end of the day because people are just so locked in. People are just so locked into their old ways and their old ways and habits of thinking that it is just impossible to reconvert one of those retarded wokies back or, you know, their retarded jingoistic counterparts. So there's no point in all of that is what I'm trying to say. And those are all the people who have infected the cinema literature and culture of today. And back in the olden days of the boom booms, it was a much different kind of vibe, more about class politics and not identity politics type of stuff. That is the main difference, the main takeaway from all of this
>>223893434Paid shills on rym do exist but fucking A24 doesn't need to go through that route my dude
>>223893972That's probably true, but who knows.

>Thomas Reiner’s recalls: “while shooting this movie, I developed my love for basset hounds. Mario Bava had one, and I loved it. Mario was very happy that he had somebody (me!) who would walk his dog during breaks in the shooting. When I returned to Germany, I immediately bought a basset hound, and my wife and I have always had bassets to this very day!”>When asked what he remembers best about this production, Luciano Pigozzi laughs, “I remember . . . many women!” All these years later, his voice still conveys a sense of the delight he felt at being surrounded daily by so much feminine beauty—which brings us to the “sei donne.”>Cameron Mitchell remembered that the equipment at Bava’s disposal was at times preposterously primitive. “Do you remember that wonderful dolly shot through the fashion house? Well, our dolly on that shot was a kid’s red wagon! And when we had to do a crane type of shot, we didn’t have a crane. They literally took something like a seesaw and counterbalanced the camera by sitting crew people on the other end! But wasn’t that elegant? Didn’t that film have style?”
Foreign language films are a very good litmus test for filmmakers and Hamaguchi seems to have succeeded whereas Koreyeda, Farhadi, and Bong have failed.

>Arthur Freed's musicals exemplify MGM's problems. Freed produced eight musicals between 1946-1947 and 1948-1949 with costs usually between $2,000,000 and $3,000,000. Four of the films earned grosses high enough to return a profit. But the profits on Till the Clouds Roll By (1946-1947), Easter Parade (1947-1948), Take Me Out to the Ball Game (1948-1949) and The Barklays of Broadway (1948-1949) were less than $1,000,000 each; and they did not cover the huge losses from Summer Holiday and The Pirate (1947-1948), and the minor losses from Good News (1947-1948) and Words and Music.>The combination of rising costs and falling earnings devastated MGM's seasonal profits. Earnings levelled off at approximately $80,000,000. Profits, which had stood at over $20,000,000 per season in the mid-1940s, fell to $1,824,000 in 1946-1947. A nadir was reached in 1947-1948 when 16 of the 25 releases showed losses. M G M continued to lose money on at least half of its films, and to alternate between tiny profits and actual losses, for the next decade.>With the studio system crumbling in Hollywood, the old remedies no longer provided a cure. In the early 1930s, for example, the decline in cinema admissions had been overcome by means of a first-class star roster. In the post-war period most of the industry's top stars 'went independent'. More importantly, though, the balance found between the risks of expensive films and the steady returns of inexpensive 'B' films no longer existed. When block-booking and blind-bidding came to an end, MGM had no protection against the volatile returns of expensive films. Dore Schary, 'the new Thalberg', did contain MGM's prohibitive costs; but MGM's record in the 1950s is very similar to that of the late 1940s, with only a few huge successes making up for a plethora of losses each season. The safety mechanisms of the studio system had been removed, and MGM was unable to prosper without them.

>>223909938Yeah. It's pretty much just the hair and overall face shape.
>>223909938It's just the hair + eye color + chompers that resemble Jane to me

>>223910135Federico Fellini’s personal Rome apartment… It angers me the suburban Amerimutt neighborhood I live in contrasted with THIS. Life isn’t fair.
>>223910374That would be so fucking expensive now.
>>223910392> Federico Fellini’s former penthouse apartment in Rome went on the market in 2015 with an asking price of 4 million euros (approximately $4.6 million USD).https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-05-14/on-sale-for-a-bargain-4-million-euros-federico-fellini-s-home-in-recessionary-romeQuote from Giulietta Masina in nights of cavities:>This one isnt poor. hypothetically how do I dispose of a body in a densely populated area next monday?
>>223910784Go to a woods area, but walk in deep, as far from the road as possible, make sure you dig deep, bury the body, cover it, then bury a dead animal on top of that, then cover that. Wear a touque, gloves and bags over your shoes. Don't dispose of the shovel, take it back home and just wash it. Don't go back to the scene, even if you're paranoid and think you need to fix something.
