>>223910173>>223908309>trunk or treatI used to be a 'Halloween ain't like it used to be' when I learned about it. Now I am totally cool with it. It makes sense considering its a way for kids to do Halloween that otherwise can't.For whatever reason, Halloween isn't a thing at apartments, and those are becoming ever so common these days. If you live in an apartment, you either leave to go to a different neighborhood or cant participate. It will only get worse with the 'You will only nothing' push for more renting. Additionally, some neighborhoods just suck for trick or treating. Even as a kid there were 'no go' neighborhoods for trick or treating because only one or two houses participated on the street. I am betting this is now more common.Anyways, that is to say I think trunk or treat is the best second option if you cant do door to door trick or treating. Anyone snubbing in it hasn't done it themselves and/or thinks everyone lives in a nice neighborhood where everyone participates in and loves Halloween. It isn't like that for a lot of kids.

>>223910903I know you're baiting but it has nothing to do with that. I was still a kid when trunk or treating came around and part of the reason I stopped giving a shit about Halloween was because that shit fucking sucked and make trick or treating completely unfun and pointless.

That would be interesting to see why.I bet this year will be busier than usual since its on a Saturday night. It was always much better doing Halloween on a weekend night versus school night.

>>223911139I think they do trunk or treating on a night that isn't even Halloween so kids could be doing both if their parents are based enough. I think trunk or treat is geared towards really young kids too.
yeah I think it's maniac time
>>223911139I think it's really just due to factors like the ubiquity of apartments and a general atmosphere of fear plus laziness/disinterestedness on the side of the parents. But I do think that the ubiquity of trunk or treating and just general laziness turns everyone off of Halloween.

I watched "The Cycle" (2026) and thought it was good. It didn't have a big budget, and it took 1 hour and 10 minutes to get to the point. But the dead body, the gore and the werewolf were great. And it comes with a novel idea: a werewolf's curse does not end with the death of its human host. 7/10 from me. And, btw., there's a full moon on monday.

Thinking about doing a silent horror night, probably Faust and something else. I've already seen og Nosferatu and Caligari. Only it will be with my own soundtrack, since a lot of silent films don't actually have an 'official' score anyway. Any ideas what to pair with Faust? Both musically and as the B side of the double feature. And, yes, I will be stoned.

Watched Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-O-Rama. While it was fun, Nightmare Sisters was better.Next I watched Sole Survivor. Really liked it, and think its underrated. Supposedly an influence on It Follows and Final Destination. From what I've seen the main criticism is that its boring. And while the movie is a slow burn, it also very atmospheric. Also the main actress, while not particularly pretty was imo quite charming. If you've liked Messiah of Evil, you might like this one.

>>223916957your contrarian friend is right
>>223916953James Wan should take a shot at it.

Just put on the Cycle and honestly, the first 2 minutes pretty good already.

>>223917177Good color filter, good tone and music. Sets the mood and atmosphere right.

>>223917516it is not, but fyi it's Polonia brother now, one of them died 20 years ago
>>223917596The point is that it doesn't really matter why. You might as well be analyzing the dialogue in a porn movie.

>>223917177>Just put on the CycleBest [werewolf] movie since Dog Soldiers if you ask me. No shitty CGI, just masterful puppet work, costumes and incredible body horror. Fucking movie took me completely by surprise. Had no idea what it was about except the tiny "her dads body is found and not everything is what it seems bla bla" text. 8/10.
>>223917596
>>223918017...I think there's about 3 people who have avoided spoilers for this because of how many anons can't use spoilers right. It's also a bit of a flaw in the film imo. They want it to be a mystery, but don't do a great job of making it one.
>>223917469Just finished. 100<100 #031Massachusetts community movie about killer seagulls mutated by toxic waste. You can tell it's a real 'let's get the town together' kinda movie because everybody's ugly, lol. Spends FOREVER on the 'getting to know everybody and the town' part of the movie, it's nearly an hour in before birds start attacking people.trailer: https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x8oci1m
>>223917716Yet the director and writer showed why. The dialogue early in the movie foreshadows the second half of the movie. The setup and payoff makes the movie enjoyable.>They're just crazy, okay?!I've never seen The Prowler, but I can already tell it's about a WWII veteran with PTSD killing young people because he's angry they never experienced the horror and trauma of war and that they get to live a peaceful life. This is also similar with the aunt in House and what she does to the school girls. These characters aren't doing so randumb killings because they're crazy. There's a reason behind it.
>>223918087
>>223918118counterpoint: that Jeff Barnaby is also just a politically obsessed lemming who sees shit that agrees with him politically in his shower grout
>>223918118>The dialogue early in the movie foreshadows the second half of the movie.Yeah, every movie has a story and characters. The point again is that he actually could've had the characters "just be crazy" and the movie would be exactly the same, because it's not the reason the movie is effective nor the focus of the film
>>223914718Just say the magic words and people will think you're deep
Earlier I tried watching Howling Village (2021) because I figured it was gonna be about werewolves and in a Japanese setting that would have been pretty novel. Then I shut it off about 24 mins in when I saw a whole bunch of ghosts in the titular tunnel. Wasn't really in the mood for it but apparently it's not actually about that but the boat had already sailed tonight so I watched The Child(1977) instead.I was immediately into this from the opening because it nailed tone and atmosphere so well. It's a low-budget independent horror movie set in rural America and the movie never stops delivering on the creepy farmland setting. The plot was a waste of potential but everything else was top notch.

I watched the carrie tv show. I thought it was pretty nice. It kind of cool how it’s implying more things from the shinning to a possible sequel, though I think it may ruin the show overall if they prolong it more
>>223918183>The point again is that he actually could've had the characters "just be crazy"But they didn't. They knew exactly what kind of social and political commentary they wanted to share with the audience.
don't forget to get a pumpkin before they sell out
>>223919608Again, you might as well be analyzing a porn film and arguing what political purpose it was made for. It's not what the movie's about, it's not important to the film at all. You've been to too many film festivals, you're looking for special meaning in movies that mean very little (and it's okay that they do). The film was not made in protest, it was made as entertainment. It's that simple.
>>223919620I've got one on the porch and picked up 2 more tonight
>oi jewface!
>>223912260>>223912346It's action horror just like the first one except much worse.
Anybody else seen this one? Had some decent kills and it's fun seeing Viggo in a leading role before he really blew up, but it never feels like it reaches its full potential and never gets as gory or crazy as it probably could have. You barely see Kane Hodder as the main undead prisoner killer in it.
>>223919720based
>>223919682>arguing what political purpose it was made forPorn is political and that deals with censorship>It's not what the movie's about, it's not important to the film at allExcept it is>The film was not made in protest>Totally not about a post-Vietnam post-Nixon disillusioned America>It's that simple. Not really

>>223913468>>223913475>>223914785>>223914866>>223915407>Hooper has cited changes in the cultural and political landscape as central influences on the film. His intentional misinformation, that the "film you are about to see is true", was a response to being "lied to by the government about things that were going on all over the world".[9] It reflected the skepticism against the Richard Nixon administration in the wake of the Watergate, the 1973 oil crisis, the 1973 economic recession, and "the massacres and atrocities in the Vietnam War".[9][16] >The "lack of sentimentality and the brutality of things" that Hooper noticed while watching the local news, whose graphic coverage was epitomized by "showing brains spilled all over the road", led to his belief that "man was the real monster here, just wearing a different face, so I put a literal mask on the monster in my film".[12]>The idea of using a chainsaw as the murder weapon came to Hooper while he was in the hardware section of a busy store, contemplating how to speed his way through the crowd.[13]
>>223919960What he's arguing and what you're stubbornly ignoring is that the movie would've worked fine without it whether it's there or not and he's right and you're wrong.
