It's very "tell, don't show" in establishing character backgrounds for the psychic and her sister, like it's too good to throw in a flashback scene or two. Kind of a weird decision by the director since the movie obviously wants the audience to empathize with her. The director wasn't that contrarian with his storytelling in House of Ninjas

Not true, if a black and white film is boring I won't pretend to like it.
I didn't care for Dracula, The Mummy, or The Cabinet Of Dr Caligari.

But I loved Nosferatu, Creature From The Black Lagoon, Bride Of Frankenstein, and The Invisible Man.

That is a really childish thing to say actually

dude I went and bought a ticket to see Häxan 1922 in theaters and omg you could feel the boredom in the crowd. I can't believe people post it among list of must watch relevant horror movie. It's a historical curiosity at best but offers nothing as a film. Literally a slide show and I'm not opposed to the silent era but when it's docu-fiction of mostly still camera photography like, what am I getting out of this. Yeah I know about witches already, great if you don't I guess

Managed nine films and Season 1 of Freaky Stories this October (Canadian uncs should remember this). I'd rank em as follows:

EXCELLENT

The Others (2001), The Changeling (1980)

ENTERTAINING

Carrie (1976), Obsession (2025), The Witches (1990), The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016)

WATCHABLE BUT NOT AS GOOD AS /TV/ LED ME TO BELIEVE

The Evil Dead (1981), Videodrome (1983)

WE HAVE TCM/HILLS HAVE EYES AT HOME

The Devil's Rejects (2005)
>>
>>224053085
it's kino. simply a well-executed movie. tight script and good performances all around.
i didn't realize how much stuff Charles Durning has been in. he starred in a broadway production of a play written by Jason Miller (Fr. Damien Karras in The Exorcist), which is a neat fun fact..
also Bubba's mom is Jocelyn Brando, Marlon's sister.

2 of the books were short story collections so I could open and read and get through here and there like on the toilet or waiting for other things so those go fast.
4 were Vampire Hunter D books and those I finished in a day or 2 each. These were definitely the fastest to read
We Have Always Lived in the Castle is Shirley Jackson and also a very easy fast read
Longest was The Terror book which I read cause I was digging The Terror series.
I also read Wasp Factory which was like a normal length

Same thing with Nosferatu. If the version you see is in black and white, it's some shitty looking 240p public domain upload that won't captivate a viewer like a nice tinted HD cut that gives a proper impression of the aesthetic. With a silent film especially, the video quality matters a lot. All you have is pictures and music.

I read this last week and didn't get much out of it. I get 'why' it/Jackson are revered and the writings fine but there was 0 intrigue for me. yeah yeah southern gothic oo little girl is evil okay wasn't a surprise it just is and what IS it. idk just quaint and dated to the period contrivances I guess.

Just watched Frankenhooker. Definitely one of Henenlotter's weaker movies.
Despite only being a little more than 80 minutes, it feels very slow and padded out. The titular character doesn't even appear until 50 minutes in.
It's more in line with the quality of the Basket Case sequels than the first movie or Brain Damage, sadly.
