Things I watched today:

Nosferatu
Kinda sucked, honestly. The visuals and acting were on point but the writing was mediocre at best. The attempt to shoehorn sex into this could've been a lot better.

Hokum
Could've been an amazing movie, but its second act is a bit boring. Still, enjoyable.

Is it physically possible for a basketball to be hurled at a human head with such force that it would cause the head to instantaneously sever from the body so that the head itself also instantaneously fragments and collapses into a bloody mess of brains and skull? This is a /tv/ related question, because that is exactly what is depicted in a particular film. I demand that Adam and Jamie be forced at gunpoint to reunite one last time in order to test this one.

The same director also made Hex (1980) and Bewitched (1980), which aren't as crazy but still very good. He also did Corpse Mania that year too (which I haven't seen but have heard good things about), the first sequel to Hex, AND Killer Constable (not horror but one of the best wuxia films of the 80s).

It's just not horror. It's just family drama with a bit of demonic influence sprinkled on top. You could pretend the teen is schizophrenic and is hallucinating the last parts of the movie before he's sent to an asylum and it works just as well.

It's not a bad movie by any means. But horror is a specific feeling, and films like this (and others, like Midsommar) don't really evoke it.

I don't get the Ari Aster thing.
I agree it was similar to Obsession but I assumed he was just getting an idea out for that reason that it'd be too similar. I liked the setup that someone was screaming about a female coming to kill him (as the title implies), but it was a ruse.
Also I like shadow people and dopplegangers.

The worst thing about trying to watch the classics is figuring out which version to get. There's always a remaster, a 4k upscale or a director's cut

That's why you do a short film first, convince Jason Bumhoe to fund the rest of it.
Then you've just go to end it.

It's rarely as big a problem as that, and most of the ones with "producers cut" tend to be shit in any version.

The biggest one that I fear seeing, is one with an alternate soundtrack. That will massively affect the tone of every scene.

That's just Aster being pretentious because of the stigma associated with the horror label. He considers Let The Right One In one of his favorite horror movies and Hereditary clearly has a lot of that movie's DNA in it. Carrie is another horror favorite of his and is also yet another horror-drama. You never saw Eggers claim The VVitch wasn't a horror movie because he isn't embarassed about being considered a horror director or fishing for awards like Aster and certain others.

I can't take retards seriously who thinks the definition of horror should revolve solely around their own emotions and believes every horror movie must follow the same formula because that's the only way they can get their dopamine fix. The world doesn't revolve around you and you need to get over yourself otherwise find some other way to get your dopamine fix. This is the whiny behavior of a drug addict and I'm sick of seeing it.
