NEXT TIME, ON STAAAAAAR TREK: SEX WITH SHRAN...CAPTAIN SHRAN ENCOUNTERS A PLANET OF OVULATING FEEMAAAALES.

Finished In a Mirror, Darkly. Good pulpy fun, I liked that Terran Archer seemed to develop an inferiority complex towards prime-universe Archer. The Constitution-class looked good with flatscreen monitors imitating button panels. It makes me sad we never saw any more of the ENT mirror universe.

>>224142655He's back in the Federation, probably not even in Starfleet. Samantha got knocked up right before they left.
>>224142698Ah right right. I might have missed that detail because I was too busy laughing at the fact that Naomi was born by being site to site transferred out of the womb
>>224142732Why not just do all births like that, if its possible.
>>224142732The writers didn't pay attention either. They at some point thought that they had killed off Samantha Wildman and Joe Carey, which is why they go out of their way to show them in time travel episodes like TNG did to Tasha. Then in season 7 they realized neither was actually dead and decided to kill Joe Carey for good.

>>224140469>Because Seven of Nine was assimilated by the Borg as a young child, she missed out on the subtle, unspoken rhythms of human connection, having to re-learn the language of desire from scratch upon her liberation. Meanwhile, Naomi, the first child born aboard Voyager, navigated her own maturation in isolation, lacking peers to mirror her budding awareness. In the quiet spaces between star charts, these two distinct journeys converged; one seeking to decode the mechanics of intimacy, the other searching for a shared language to name her own awakening, finding in each other a rare and unspoken resonance as they explored the boundaries of what it meant to be more than just two people adrift.

this episode about Chakotay hallucinating alien boxing makes me think I need to read the Voyager equivalent of the DS9 Companion. not that this is terrible but, what were they thinking?
>>224144490voyager had a really half assed companion book because no one gave a fuck, sadly
>>224144605that's really a shame because I feel like the ideas in this show are really creative. for example the way the aliens are trying to communicate with Chakotay in this episode is truly alien and bizarre.
>>224144664Whereas TNG and DS9 had very detailed companion books where they break down each episode and explain what they meant, lots of interviews with the cast and crew, plenty of color images, the VOY companion was nothing more than a glorified episode guide with black and white pictures.
>>224144728the DS9 book I have doesnt have color images and doesnt really talk about what the episode "means" its more like behind the scenes details about the production and anything the showrunners or actors wanted to say about it.
>>224144728They should've hired the guy who pretended to be a native american to write the guide for the entire production team, including episodes he wasn't involved with.
>>224144828except of course any input from Marc Alaimo which is suspiciously absent from the book. a mystery I still wonder about to this day

does next generation ever get good? season 1 is not great so far.did i start with the wrong series?
>>224145039if you don't like it stop watching and leave us the fuck alone faggot
>>224145039S1 is definitely a bit of a rough start. S2 is an improvement. S3 is maybe the best season of Star Trek ever made.
>>224145039TNG season 1 is renowned for having/being a series of clunkers. And season 2 is only really a marginal improvement from that poor start, but it really gets good in season 3 and improves into season 4, with seasons 5 and 6 mostly continuing the highs.
It feels to me that there is a subset of anons who only watch Star Trek through YouTube reviewers.
>>224145473That's right, Jay!
something is really fucking wrong with my brain because after watching Voyager I love Seven so much I am entertaining the idea of watching Picard just because she's in it. guess it's time for me to talk to Worf.
>>224145687This ship ruined all of Starfleet.
>>224145654She acts nothing like she does in Voyager, it may as well be a different character.
>>224145654That's just simp brain. Remember that Seven is efficiency obsessed and basically autistic, so the chances of her knowing to shave her pubes are next to zero. We also see no evidence of a shower in her alcove, so at best it gets some kind of photonic tachyon anti-tetryon sonic pulsewave whatever once every four or five days. Hairy, unwashed. Not so appealing now.
>>224145717my love of Seven has nothing to do with sexual attraction to her. your pitiful moid brain could never understand what I like about her.

Only watch Picard Season 3. Trust me.Also Seven of Nine acts a bit different. She acts more like Jeri Ryan (the actress) than Seven of Nine from Voyager. That guy wanted the Enterprise to be an Akira. Not like an Akira, but an actual Akira two hundred years too early. When I think about how the franchise was destroyed, I remember that people like this were in positions of power over it even twenty years ago. Just zero care.
>>224145874How does Harry rate his own quarters anyway? And how does Neelix get a room with a bathtub twenty minutes after he first boards the ship?
>>224146789>How does Harry rate his own quarters anyway? There aren't supposed to be a lot of officers onboard Voyager (or other ships in general), but the writers are stupid.
>the Doc, a holographic psycho, is going to try to teach Seven about dating real human beansyeah ok this totally won't go wrong. I would much rather see Janeway's dating advice
>>224146723Wrong, MrPassiveAgressive. The Akira was obviously a retro design, built as an homage to the earlier configuration of the NX-01, not the other way around. Wise up, nigger.

Tonight's episode is "And the Children Shall Lead" which looks like it has a Village of the Damned thing going on. I liked the kids from Miri, so hopefully a whole episode of them passes the muster.See you in an hour or so.
>>224148038It's a pretty stupid and goofy episode but I think it's fun.
stawwwwwwwwwwwwww TWEK
>>224148038>>224148611It is pretty goofy but I think it's also clever. An alien warlord's ghost (or some mentally projected simulacrum that we never get a proper explanation for) preying upon the innocent to start a Children's Crusade by giving them latent mind control powers (again, through unexplained means) does turn into an interesting concept to explore, though the ending was somewhat expected (using the home movies in conjunction with sensor footage of the adults all dead to overcome their blockage). Gorgan's little speeches about "being good & gentle erasing your strength" getting thrown right back at him when the kids believe him to death (like some inverted Tinkerbell) was also well written, even if it all happens in the last 5 minutes.I wish we had gotten some more stuff with the kids using their powers, maybe the brat upset over getting Coconut-Vanilla tries it on Nurse Chapel before Tommy stops him. Or something else with Bones being constantly on their side, as any care provider should be, instead of him vanishing from the plot once they've taken over the Bridge. At least we got Scotty's glass delusion, Sulu's path of knives, and Uhura's slow death by disease - the last of which was a really good pick, since it plays back into her vanity from "I, Mudd".I think the biggest thing this episode made me realize is that we don't get double-barreled threats anymore. Back in season 1, it was always "here's the problem the episode is about, and here's another time-sensitive issue to compound on the problem even more", but in this one it's the kids driving both the immediate & long issues. It's still good, but it could be better.

>>224146166>Imagine still doing this retarded cope in 2026. It's all absolute dogshit.Season 3 is better than Star Trek Nemesis and is a decent farewell to the TNG cast.
>>224150076TVs were not High definition back then. So they could get away with more. This same scene would be blurrier and more suggestive in the TV broadcast version.
>>224150076People didn't have computers to record things and post them on the internet. Unless it was explicit, it generally slipped past notice. Now how it got past the censors? They probably watched it on a tiny little monitor. TVs were tiny back then.
>>224143130I still dont get the trans wes joke.
>>224144172>akoocheemo-upholstery
>>224144172Chakotay had severe akoocheemo-addiction.
>>224146789>How does that bridge officer rate his own quarters anyway?
>>224148038>>224149383Fun Fact - Melvin Belli (The Gorgan) was a famously flamboyant and eccentric lawyer in real life. He's who William Shatner's character is explicitly based on in Boston Legal. David E Kelley didn't even realise he had been in Star Trek until Shatner told him.
>>224150190>a decent farewell to the TNG cast....So how does it compare to the excellent farewell they got in 'All Good Things'?
>>224148038Fun Fact.Of the annoying kids: - The Asian one was the voice of Leonardo in the Ninja Turtles movies - The Girl one was the voice of Lucy in the Peanuts TV specials - The leader boy grew up to be a musician and played on the soundtrack of the first five Star Trek movies.
>>224150697>...So how does it compare to the excellent farewell they got in 'All Good Things'?All Good Things was very well written, and a good two part story. But make no mistake, it's a bad ending to TNG. Nothing is explained or resolved for any of the characters long running plotlines. TNG Writers admitted that they didn't know the series was ending with Season 7. They genuinely believed TNG would get a Season 8 or even Season 9. They Trek actors contracts had them committed up to 9 seasons. But Paramount suddenly decided that paying actors for 2 more TV seasons was too expensive. Each season required Paramount to give the actors a raise in salary. So Paramount decided to just end the series and fund the TNG movie instead (Star Trek Generations). And new writers were hired for the movie. The TV show writers were kicked out and sent home. Have you noticed how Season 7 just randomly ends? The TNG writers admitted that if they knew Season 7 was the last season, they would have spent most of the season resolving plotlines and creating more of a "build up" to the finale. Instead the writers could only write "All Good Things" and hope that was enough for fans. Picard S3 actually resolves the plots for the TNG cast and explains what they've been doing for 20 years. I won't spoil Picard Season 3 , but It doesn't just randomly end like "All Good Things". Everything is (mostly) resolved with the TNG cast.So that's why it's a better ending for TNG.
Picard ruined Patricks legacy
>>224150871>Complete horseshit - The writers definitely knew that season 7 was the last, Generations was in production simultaneously. - The actor's contracts mostly ran out after seven seasons. - Pay rises only happen during contract renegotiations - 'New writers were hired for the movie' - What? Rick Berman? Ronald D. Moore? Brannon Braga? In addition to being TNG writers, these were literally producers, editors, and showrunners....I mean, there's so much more wrong here too. It's incredible that you said so much without a single statement being anything but ludicrous crap.
>>224150190>a decent farewell to the TNG cast....that already happened in All Good Things. So I'm not sure what else you need.
>>224150871>Picard S3 actually resolves the plots for the TNGThat no one asked for>and explains what they've been doing for 20 years.Apperently none of them talked to each other for 20 years>Everything is (mostly) resolved with the TNG cast.Like what?
>>224150871>TNG Writers admitted that they didn't know the series was ending with Season 7.Yes they did. The plan was always to transition into movies after 7 season. Nobody was caught of guard by that.
>>224151081>The writers definitely knew that season 7 was the last, Generations was in production simultaneously.Anon. Scripts have to be written ahead of time. There's a schedule. >New writers were hired for the movie' - What? Rick Berman? Ronald D. Moore? Brannon Braga? In addition to being TNG writers, these were literally producers, editors, and showrunners.TV shows have an entire room of writers working together. They brainstorm ideas together and come up with a story outline for the season ahead of time and assign different episodes to each writer.TNG Season 7 had EIGHTEEN writers. Star Trek Generations only had 3 listed writers. And only 2 them actually wrote the script. Ric Berman was given "story" credit (which basically means he threw in some ideas). Ron Moore admitted that he regrets Generations script and not working with more writers on the script before it went into production. >The actor's contracts mostly ran out after seven seasonsWhen they renegotiated their contracts with Paramount, the actors had options placed in their contracts for up to 9 Seasons (except Patrick Stewart). Paramount could legit keep going after Season 7, but some actors wanted to leave. In his book "Making It So", Patrick Stewart explained that he was going to leave after Season 7 regardless of Paramount's decision. He was getting tired of playing Picard, was really afraid of being typecast, and he wanted to act in other roles. Several TNG cast members even had to privately convince Patrick to stay for Season 7. Michael Dorn (Worf), Jonathan Frakes (Riker), and Levar Burton (Geordi) were really vocal about wanting to keep going for more seasons. They felt TNG still had stories to tell and plenty of life left.Brent Spiner wasnt as enthusiastic continuing to play Data, but was happy with the paycheck. Brent would have gone for at least Season 8.Marina Sirtis (Troi) was fine but not enthusiastic. Unknown about Gates McFadden. She stayed quiet.
>>224151360>Anon. Scripts have to be written ahead of time. There's a schedule.Yes, that's why Generations was written alongside season 7, and why there were no plans for season 8. Because they were switching to movies.
>>224151360>Michael Dorn (Worf), Jonathan Frakes (Riker), and Levar Burton (Geordi) were really vocal about wanting to keep going for more seasons. They felt TNG still had stories to tell and plenty of life left.TV actors wanted more stable work - the news.
>>224151360>>224151192>>224151081In the book "Star Trek: The Next Generation 365" which extensively covers production of TNG it says that the TNG writers had grown accustomed to automatic renewals and believed the series could reach nine or ten seasons. So the Writers continued with largely "business-as-usual" storytelling. Season 7 wasn't originally conceived as a grand concluding chapter for the TNG crew. Naren Shankar, a TNG story editor, openly says that The writers were not treating Season 7 as a carefully planned farewell. Brannon Braga has said:>"In my mind, TNG never ended. It was taken off the air at the height of its popularity. It had another three years, easy."Ron Moore described the assignment to write the finale of the series with Baraga as a complete "surprise" and said they didn't have much time to figure out the finale.Rene Echevarria said in a December 1994 interview regarding Season 7 that:>"It was really just business as usual."Rene explained that the writers were still trying to keep the show on the air and produce good TNG stories. That they were NOT approaching Season 7 as a final farewell. Each episode was just business as usual for the writers.
>>224150871>>224151081>>224151360>>224151481So what I'm getting here is conflicting opinions. It looks like some people knew the series was ending and some didn't. But it's clear S7 wasn't planned out well, and the finale wasn't mapped out well in advance either. It was done last minute.

>>224157703Which reminds me... In universe, did either or both remember what they did or think about as Tuvix after they were finally separated?
>>224150592Get real, he was immediately outranked by fucking maquis members in the first episode. He should've been housed in a cargo bay because Janeway was holding back the empty crew quarters for possible diplomatic contacts.
>>224158011I went ahead and asked Gemini the same question, and got the following response:In the Star Trek Voyager episode titled Tuvix, in universe, did either or both remember what they did or thought about as Tuvix after they were finally separated?In-universe, the episode "Tuvix" leaves this question explicitly unanswered. Neither Tuvok nor Neelix ever comments on, references, or hints at having memories of their time fused together after they are separated. From a strict narrative and canon perspective, viewers are left to interpret what happened based on how the transporter technology works, leading to a couple of prevailing schools of thought:1. The "Clean Slate" View (No, they didn't remember)Proponents of this theory argue that the transporter isolated the original genetic patterns of Tuvok and Neelix as they existed prior to the orchid-induced accident. Because the separation process essentially reconstituted them from their individual baseline patterns, their consciousnesses effectively "skipped" the intervening weeks. • The Evidence: When they rematerialize on the biobed, both men instantly look around, disoriented, and say things like, "What happened?" or expressionlessly adjust, showing immediate awareness that they had been in an accident, but zero indication that they experienced life as a third person. Furthermore, neither shows any psychological weight, trauma, or awkwardness afterward about the fact that Tuvix begged for his life or that Janeway had to force the separation.2. The "Gestalt Carryover" View (Yes, they remembered, but it's unacknowledged)Another perspective suggests that because Tuvix possessed a continuous stream of consciousness containing all of Tuvok’s and Neelix’s memories, that combined mental footprint didn't just vanish—it had to go somewhere when the pattern was split. Continued...
>>224158285Continued:• The Implication: If Tuvok and Neelix inherited the composite memories, both men would theoretically hold first-hand recollections of everything Tuvix thought, felt, and experienced—including falling in love with Kes, cooking meals in the mess hall, serving on the bridge, and ultimately fighting desperately against Captain Janeway in sickbay.• The Silence: If they did remember, the total lack of follow-up dialogue in subsequent episodes is often viewed by fans as one of the most glaring writing omissions in Voyager history, given how emotionally heavy and ethically fraught the situation was. Ultimately, because the show's writers chose to end the episode immediately after the separation with a quick tonal reset and never touched upon the subject again, canonically, neither Tuvok nor Neelix ever acknowledged remembering their time as Tuvix.
>>224157951Fags have to do what they can since so few characters are actually gay..>>224158011Tuvix’s creation was murder, separating was the morally correct choice.
>>224158323shut up
>>224157703I didn’t know that murder causes more people to be alive than before.
Why didn't they just modify the transporter to create a copy of Tuvix? They could have killed the copy instead of the real Tuvix?
>>224158420Because the transporter isn’t supposed to copy people, it transports people without killing and recreating them trust us bro.
>>224140469>And when you get to this square you tell the monkeys to "Move Along Home" and they get very cross and start flinging poop. It's hilarious.

>>224158037I'd inject some plasma into her warp core, if you know what I mean.
>>224158285What's interesting to me in this episode is that they used the stored transporter patterns of the two in order to separate them, which is something I had advocated for decades in situations where persons were severely disabled, mortally wounded, or even killed on away missions as long as some biological tissues remained for the transporter or even the replicator to work with.
>>224158571hell yea
>>224158638They "cure" aging in an episode of TNG (and TAS too if you want to count that) using the transporter and it's never addressed again. The limits and extents of the transporters capabilities are very inconsistent across the canon.

Yeah I got no excuse for being so late today. Tonight we answer the question "Is There in Truth No Beauty?", and hopefully also answer why it's not called "Is there no truth no beauty?"See you in an hour or so.
>>224166545>no truth noFucking hell, this is the worst I've ever botched it. I meant to say "Is there no truth IN beauty?" since that's what I always remember it as, but I typed it out backwards and when I went to correct it I replaced one but not the other. Whatever, hopefully it's a good one even if the title is some reference I don't get yet.
>>224166468That episode reminded me of 4chan a lot in that it was about an autistic person overanalyzing information without context and framing it in a conspiratorial fashion. That's like every third person on here.
>>224166793that's exactly why I posted that lol I was thinking the same thing. also this thing where Janeway is like "there's no one I trust more than Chakotay" is so weird right after the episode where he defied orders on a whim and risked everyone's life over some artifact. it wasn't even the first time he wiped his ass with her orders either. how can you truly have trust in someone like that? i understand why she has to maintain that belief otherwise the command structure and crew morale is just fucked but it really seems like cope at this point

I quite like Tom Paris. He's only unlikable early on when he's doing it to play a part and expose the traitor. He's fine later on. His one insubordinate moment is making a very reasonable moral stand over the ocean planet's retarded inhabitants. So starfleet has instantaneous communication almost anywhere in the galaxy, and replicators. But star trek fans want me to believe there was some sort of “transition period” between TNG and DS9 and VOY and that’s why everyone is zipping around in completely different uniforms?I give an excuse to Janeway and the NCC-74656 lost in space, but wouldn’t everyone else be able to receive an instantaneous “notice of uniform change” and replicate new clothes for the entire ship?

Lol
>>224172529>Teenager advertises he’s LGBTQ+>Immediately gets groomed by an older man
>>224172373>starfleet has instantaneous communicationNo they don't. And as I recall, the only overlap between TNG and DS9 was before the actual uniform change, DS9 was just wearing the station uniforms. https://youtu.be/FJIy7-jR4goYou see here that the starship crew has the same uniform as TNG, division color on bottom, black on top, and DS9 has a starbase uniform flipping that. We can head canon that by the time Starfleet rolled out the grey top uniforms they realized that a visual distinction between ship and starbase crew was useless and did away with it.
>>224172625in Voyager you see that the Earth uniforms are also different, they even have the ribbons around the sleeves

the Doctor truly has no sense of right and wrong and is somehow the most vain creation in existence. you would think he would appreciate the fact that Voyager could have reset it modified him instead of dealing with his bullshit at any time but he has no humility or self awareness whatsoever.
>>224173766>yes I know we have the technology to make someone into a convincing Romulan or any other alien race really and we've showcased that technology in the past... >HOWEVER these things are... expensive or some shit so you're just going to have to be your bald ass self because this mission is gay in the first place, fuck it, who cares
>>224173823>black people should just be happy that white people enslaved them, they could've killed them at any time>now they won't shut up about their "rights as an individual, blah blah"The Doctor carries the albatross of an entire category of life on his shoulders. He should jealously defend holographic rights, otherwise some retard might end up enslaving all "synthetics" one day in the Federation. Haha, but that would never happen.
>>224174034Man fears god, his creator. Doctor should fear his creators as well.
>>224174082>Man fears godnot in the post TNG timeline he doesn'the spars with gods and plays chess with gods and defeats them
>>224174034im not talking about his "rights" I'm talking about his personality. the way I see it his perception of himself is akin to that of a small child. to them they are the center of the universe and it's with time and experience growing up that they learn to care about other people and understand their place in the world. the Doc isn't a normal person who has been through that process because I guess no one thought to program that into a medical hologram. he is a really interesting character because of nuances like that.

>>224174347I'm pretty sure every Starfleet captain makes the same decision Janeway made. I thought about it, thought MAYBE Picard but nah, he would also understand that to deprive Voyager of its tactical officer -- Tuvok is basically her real XO, particularly since this is early seasons -- would be unfair to the rest of the crew, as well as unfair to Tuvok himself, his family, his children, and Neelix.
>>224174082Fearing anything is weak and unenlightened.
>>224174225Impulse speeds are capped well below light speed to avoid relativistic complications. One of the tech manuals pegged it at 0.25c, which to be fair still seems fast enough to outrun an explosion.
>rip off the movie Arena for a VOY episode>cast Jeff and JG Hertzler instead of Marc Alaimo and Armin Shimmerman this triggers me a little bit

>>224166545>>224166571I fell asleep last night, but thankfully I pause whenever I get to a commercial break, so I could pick it back up from the moment Larry died.Everything about this felt really odd in service to the "blind all along" twist, most notably in the stilted initial conversation between Spock & Miranda or the dinner scene where the men couldn't possibly be THAT enchanted by her beauty. Why the hell did Bones call her disturbing? He KNOWS she's blind. It's a good message to put forth, the rejection of the Greek concept of Good & Beauty being inseparable, but Kirk raising a toast to Miranda's beauty right after that just makes me think "oh so she's evil and taking advantage of Kollos in some way". I'm not a big enough idiot to think that Larry's insane ranting would serve as just cause for her villainous nature, but what killed him? Death by insanity?I wonder if Spockollos served as inspiration for Tuvix? The two personas here also melded very well, though were obviously amenable to dissolving the link since it was purely mental. Bones saying "That's not Spock." "THAT'S Spock" was really funny, and Spockollos waxing poetic in appreciation of the sensations a human form gives him but lamenting the solitude of the human mind was a great touch to really hammer in the message of all forms having their strengths & weaknesses, and that subjectivity places those categories in flux. The ending was also very sudden. Right after Spock recovers and Kirk goes to look for Miranda, we just cut ahead to her & Kollos leaving and everybody wishing eachother well. Feels like there was a scene missing.
>The Vulcan IDIC was inserted into the script and into the episode at the behest of Gene Roddenberry, who wanted to sell the prop as an item at his Lincoln Enterprises. Nimoy, Shatner, and others were outraged at this, and Roddenberry was called to the set to negotiate with the actors. Finally, he agreed to rewrite the dinner scene. The IDIC symbol was used, but in a much less prominent way.I didn't find it obtrusive at all, though it did seem to come out of nowhere, so I'm glad the cast was able to walk him back from whatever his initial plans may have been. The sales patter matches up pretty well with the last words Spock & Miranda exchange before he beams her down, so it's not like it was an entirely thoughtless decision.Putting that $7.50 of 1968 dollars into the inflation calculator adds up to around $72 today.
