What a terrible cover. I see lately they are giving a lot of attention to "designers" who decide the covers of the volumes and similar things and it's clear they don't know anything about yuri and are just trying to aim at normalfags. How can anyone interested in yuri understand that it's a yuri series with a cover like that? Is it that difficult to do the bare minimum and put two girls on the cover?

At this point I guess we will never go back to the old shipping rates, I tried Amazon and cdJapan and the cost for the shipment is basically the same, more than double what I used to pay one year ago. The only good thing is that the yen keeps being weak, but the shipment remains 60% of the price of the goods and that's insane.
Herami shimai seems to be selling well since it's out of stock and it will take 1/2 weeks to restock, which is a problem for me since my order will be, again, split in more packages.
Still no news about Koneko-chan 2 and I don't know if it's a positive or a negative thing, like, they won't remove it from my order because they're still waiting to restock? Or did they just forget about it?

I don't know how the situation is in Japan but I could see in the last months every series/publisher has increased the price of the volumes, some of even 60 yen all in once, see Yuri Hime from 680 yen to 740.

I wouldn't have half as much yuri doujin and merch if it wasn't for honto's SAL shipments stopping a few years ago and amazon dropping the ball after that. Realizing how many amazing exclusives existed opened my eyes to the wonders of importing yuri and it was easy to expand to doujin and other merch from there. Speaking of merch and doujinshi, this year I wanted to get some of those for my annual forwarder order for the first time, but I always used only amazon and cdjapan so I don't know anything about those specialized sites, which one do you suggest?
I gave a look at melonbooks because is the one I see more often used by artists but it looks like a mess to navigate (isn't there an english version?) and I can't find anything.
I searched 百合 in the goods category but I found only some WataYuri's solo stuff I'm not interested in. I searched the title of a couple of series and nothing showed up. I'm searching for stuff like keychains, pins, badges, cards, literally any useless item I'll never ever use but that has yuri illustrations on it. For example something like this one

Availability for older goods/extras is bad in general, and stock is hit or miss at all the shops I've checked. Occasionally authors will add more stock, but a lot of sold out items will just be sold out forever. The one positive is that more authors are releasing digital versions these days.

Most japanese sites look like they are from 2010 with terrible UX and it takes a lot of getting used to. There are multiple major bookstore companies that commonly promote bonuses for tankoban releases, and melon is usually going to have the best ones, but it isn't always the case so you will need to shop around if you are looking for something specific. I buy from melon, gamers, animate, toranoana, mangaoh, comic zin, amazon, and more depending on what they are offering. There are tons of bonuses and it gets messy trying to keep up. No way to track that easily besides following the author to see what bonuses they are making. The amazon link you sent is for a melon bonus for one of the tankoban releases for that series. They tend to sell out unless you preorder. Standalone merch doesn't get sold on its own unless the series has anime in most cases. Melon does offer a built in google translate function at the top banner if you are in a non-chrome browser or just use chrome's translate if you are in chrome.

If you want doujin I recommend using this landing page to see yuri doujin broken into helpful categories. As you noticed, things don't stay in print. In fact, they are often printed by the author via printing/binding stores and shipped to melon for consignment so the author in many cases may only print a few hundred or less depending on how many they expect to sell. Printing tons of books that don't sell and paying melonbooks to sell them would be a financial disaster for doujin authors who barely make much to begin with so they are conservative with how many copies they put out initially. Mira reprints her longer doujin series occasionally but those are the only ones. It is nearly impossible to be a completionist unless you are actively following the author's every move so you don't miss the short windows of availability for some items.

Yes, I know about bonuses attached to volumes but I'm not willing to buy the same thing more times to get a small bonus, I'm already having problems with the lack of space on my shelf and like I said I can't do it on a regular basis. Double shipment, japanese taxes, forwarder's fee, it's too much money wasted I can do it once or twice at best a year so I can't follow new releases as they are released.
I hoped I could get some small merch, but if that's the case then I'll just keep using amazon for used stuff and resellers.

Rather than new stuff I never read so I don't know what it really has inside, I wanted to get my favourite doujinshi I read in all these years via scans so I already know it's stuff I like and I have no problem with, I can support the author and I can finally own a work I liked. I can read japanese so I'll rather keep it that way than using a translator, I was just asking because I get an english pop-up everytime I open the site saying "for overseas customers" but then the whole site is in japanese. And in general letters instead of kanji make the site feels cleaner/lighter.

I guess I'll give a look to the other sites too to see if I can find something I like but in the end I think I'll stick to amazon even if by now I already got almost everything I wanted.

Does anyone know how much of the exclusive editions from melonbooks type stores goes to the artists? I don't really care that much about acrylic figures and the like, but I would buy them them a little more if I knew it was helpful to the artist.

There was a recent law change that artists celebrated where they will get compensated for creating the exclusive art for bookstore bonuses, so they get at least a fixed sum for the art now. Previously many of the extras were apparently unpaid work they would do just to promote sales. How big of a slice of the extra profit from the merch is a mystery. Bookstore bonuses that don't sell out are almost nonexistent so the artist would be getting the max returns on that piece of their book release in almost every instance, but if you want the merch just go for it, they'll at least get something for it. If you really want to give even more support to the series and the author, just buy extra copies on release week and chase all the exclusives.

Short answer: the donation area I use is unmanned so they cannot stop me (sorry librarians/volunteers).

Long answer: The library system where I live does include Japanese books but they're generally really normal stuff like mainstream novels and how-to books, so I sincerely doubt the ones I'm donating are of interest to them. When they ship the order (it took them one week) I received an email from FedEx telling me I had to pay cash on delivery, with no option to pay online. I had to contact FedEx and they told me I could do a bank transfer and so I did but they didn't mark the package as paid so the courier kept asking for cash on delivery after I had already paid so I had to reject it. It took them two whole weeks (and a lot of phone calls and emails from my side) to finally have the package delivered without nothing to pay. It's been a nightmare.
The package was perfect, everything put in bubble wrap and with paper in the box to keep them in place. Everything was in perfect state.
I wish there was a store with cdjapan's packaging that can deal with VAT without any problem like amazon.

It's time for my new order and I tried to place the same order on amazon and cdjapan. More than 30 € of difference with amazon being cheaper. cdjapan's shipment is more expensive and they keep using the wrong VAT rate for my country. I also had to remove some books because they're not in stock or they're not even added on cdjapan, but anyway if I added them the total would have been higher than 150 € so it's not like I have any choice. cdjapan is more generous with discounts, with my previous order they gave me more than 2000 yen to use for my next order, while amazon gives me a mere 1%. Regardless, to save money In the end it's still amazon to win, you just have to pray they will ship it in a cardboard box like anybody with a brain would do.

Planning to go to Japan this winter time. Realistically, would it better to ship 2 years worth of Yurihime or put it in my luggage.

Sentai started having their black friday sale today and there are tons of yuri blurays on extremely steep sales. Most are only a few dollars. Never saw such good prices from them before so I grabbed a bunch of stuff. Kanamemo is my biggest recommendation at 3.99. There is a lot to choose from for the cheap ones, Strawberry Marshmallow ovas (1.99), Sasami-san (2.99), Locodol (2.99), Gochiusa 1, 2 (3.99 ea.), etc. There's also a lot of low prices on other yuri series that don't tend to go down to those types of low prices like flip flappers, yagakimi, pripri, etc.

Every volume of almost every yuri manga or LN has bookstore bonuses amounting to 4-8 pages of extras whenever a new volume comes out. It gets expensive and tiring keeping up with all of it. I'm not finding 伽藍の姫 interesting at all for now, but I'll try getting it anyway, maybe reading the first volume all in one will leave me a better impression than reading it chapter by chapter.
I hadn't heard about 志摩風さんのAクイック before, the first chapter seems very promising and I'm all in for a sport series, hoping it won't go down the Tsubame tip-off's route, both in terms of the (abandoned) yuri and the (axed) story.
I'm letting ブラック・ブラック・ロータス sit for now, I don't know how it can go on with the love interested killed off in the first chapter, I'll continue to monitor it to see where it'll go.

Knowing myself I'll probably buy Shimeji later when I'll be able to get over all the nonsense the series is based on. It took me a while to buy Shoujo shuumatsu ryokou too and I ended up loving it.
But the other one is yet another series where a girl hides her sex, pretends to be a man and tricks the other girl making her believe she is an actual man. Lying about your sex is one of the worst thing you can do in a relationship.
However even if you want to count those two it's still only 11 volumes in a month, far from what we usually get.

It depends on your country. Books are 10% in Japan and 4% in my country, I always have to pay custom taxes when I order and I recently got problems with FedEx because they kept saying I didn't pay and refused to deliver it even if I sent them the prove of the payment countless times so I don't want to deal with it.
I'm going to order bundles if I can but most of the stuff I want are one-shot volumes and some merch.

How good are the Tokyopop translations for Konohana Kitan? Considering buying it, but I know Tokyopop's track record is shaky, so just curious if they're at least decent.

The sprite store bonus edition is the best one by far if you just want nice tapestries to hang since you get two good designs in one place. Their price for it isn't the best value though. 21k yen is 10k yen more than the base limited edition, so it is basically 5k yen per tapestry since the other extras included in the sprite edition aren't that interesting. Compare that to 21k which was the price of the aoishiro/akaito special edition bundle from ebten. That came with 2 games, 10 CDs, a special set box to hold everything, and 2 laser etched crystals with LED lighted bases which are extremely well made. Definitely one of the best special editions and bonuses I ever received.

Sorry for bumping the thread, but I'm going mad. I want to buy "I can't defy the lonely girl", although I don't understand whether it's composed of 5 or 6 volumes. I see complete first editions of 6 volumes but also complete (or marked as complete) "latest" editions of 5 volumes on second hand markets.
Also, I see on April 17 the sixth volume is going to be reprinted? So I thought I should wait until that date or I don't know at this point. On Amazon the fifth volume is out of stock anyway... Why is it so hard, I just want my fav yuri on my shelf to read whenever I please and that's it.

I don't know what the hell is amazon doing but the full series is 6 volumes.
Volume 5 is currently out of stock. As for the 6th volume it seems amazon removed the page with the first print (it was an edition with an extra booklet limited for the first print, I don't know why they removed it when they could leave it and mark it as out of stock) and left only the kindle version and now they added a new page for the second print of the volume (that won't have the first print limited booklet).
So you have to wait April for the release of the reprint of the 6th volume (without the extra booklet) and then hope for a reprint of the 5th volume. If you find a full set of the 6 volumes buy that (the set with 5 volumes is an old one).

I just tested as well and it looks like they started region blocking some R18 work. With a JP VPN and a private browser I can get the page to load, but if I am logged into my account the page doesn't work, even when I set a my default shipping address to a JP location which previously fixed issues when items were showing as unavailable.
