While others are steadily losing interest because they liked the previous more grounded tone of volume 2/early volume 3, and are annoyed at Kokoro's character development and pretty much everything to do with Kudou. They think she's just way too over-the-top. And that she's the initial sign of more over-the-top antics to come.

I just watched "The Summer (2023)", a 1 hour indie korean yuri anime. Maybe this is old news because I can't keep up with generals these days, but I was hoping to talk about it anyway. The MC's girlfriend is a saint throughout, her only downside is that she isn't introspective like the MC so she isn't good at talking about herself, plus people kept shitting on her for being open. MC's girlfriend is so good she even takes an extra job to get her GF a nicer apartment so the MC would be more comfortable. I feel like the homophobia shown earlier in the movie where the MC didn't "get it" until later on should have been foreshadowing for her abundantly clear class prejudice. The MC's obvious privilege in shows clearly in retrospect, but it was first abundantly clear when she is ashamed of her dirty mechanic GF and then instantly smitten with the high class office lady who visits her shop. The 1st half of the movie had some moments where I was starting to see cracks in the movie's message (the smarmy men who mock them, the literal sociopath who breaks the girlfriend's leg in a soccer game) but I was hoping it would redeem itself. Instead the MC starts joining in by being insufferable herself. Even if I take the ending as the culmination of her immaturity, it still didn't have any deeper meaning because the MC doesn't appear to have grown at all through this process. Her waiting in their apartment with the GF's presents to give back to her was such a weirdly awful thing to do too. I really don't know what the point of this was and I'm hoping someone can explain their point of view because otherwise I think this decent indie animation was a waste on this story.
