We probably don't need regular threads, but the movie is still pretty new and as long as the manga and Light Novel are still being translated we got something to discuss at least.

In other new:
https://x.com/Cho_KaguyaHime/status/2019380490713837928
Apparently the movie will get one week limited time cinema release in Japan.

https://x.com/ku__koma/status/2018886810496344394
Saniro will have 4 Kaguya themed concerts in VR chat.

https://x.com/Cho_KaguyaHime/status/2019380735870697734
A special notebook with illustrations by the staff will be sold for a limited time. It's themed like the movie's epilogue scrapbook.

I think it's a really cool detail that dog girl Otako has actually been a Kaguya/Iro-P fan since the very beginning. She was there during their very first event and she is getting ultra hyped when Iro-P takes off her fox costume and even more hyped in the ray MV when Iroha actually does a dance choreography on stream.
Not to mention crying on kaguya's graduation concert.

Oh so the apple girl is doing babaniku? They really do include all kinds of Vtuber culture...

If only that booklet wasn't going to be some impossible to get in-store-only item that ends up selling out everywhere anyway.

>>4525119
The acrylic character stands are at least edited full body poses but almost all of the other merch is just lazy screengrabs so far. That image was only half of the purikura-style scene and they had other much better screengrabs they could have taken during the montage that would have made for a better option. I'm convinced that the companies they hire to make these types of generic merch don't really know what people want to see because they always do stuff like this.

>>4525136
Just a shot of tsukuyomi, it isn't unexpected that it would have flying moon themed trains as a mode of transport. I haven't heard anything that connects it as an easter egg to some part of the story.
>>
>>4525143
>it isn't unexpected that it would have flying moon themed trains as a mode of transport
Didn't seem like that was a thing in what we saw of the city at least. They had fish themed blimps tho. Though maybe if you log in you take the space train to Tsukuyomi, but nah login brings you to the torii gate.

Most merch for all series is definitely super lazy
I dont like merch without a use in general. Gimme a book or the OST at high quality or a blu-ray disc, but I dont know why I should buy pins or acrylic stands or nendroids or whatever. It's just garbage that's gonna pile up (kinda like kaguya's stuff in Iroha's appartment)

Even after checking it out I still don't really get it. Seems to be a glorified timer/to-do-list app with music?
But there is a pet/companion feature and they didnt make InuDOGE or Fushi options. They are just plushs you can collect. Are they stupid?

Seems the app got a Miku collab just before this, so apparently Gogh can pull some strings. It's also highly rated which surprises me. So the flow from Miku to CPK is kinda natural. Especially because Iroha is the exact type who would use this kind of app...

From the looks of it, it's a "study with me" game? Seems like you make an avatar and a room to have someone to study with. Similar to those vlogs and study lofi music videos you see on YouTube. I guess if you need help being productive for the next 10 years in trying to build an android body for your wife, this can help?

The 1st vol of the manga isn't out until the 10th, someone will certainly post them when they are up. LN and guidebook are the ones that came out last week.

>>4525320
Minakata Sunao, Takashima Hiromi, Ononaka Akihiro, Yukiko, Sometime, probably a bunch of others that haven't posted about it yet. I probably missed a few obvious ones and I've been looking at it for almost two weeks now and I know I remember a few others had posted but I can't remember who they were. You can bet money that most yuri authors will watch this soon if they haven't already.

>>4525325
It is extremely obvious once you see it. Look at the bottom of her eye and there is a sloped mountain with a white flat top. Then go look up a picture of mt fuji. Sadly fanartists are missing that detail too often and it stands out so much once you know it is supposed to be there.

I just finished MTLing the novel and there’s this part that feels unsettling to me. Is she implying that her father was suicidal / depressed?

I wonder what this world looked like to you, Father.
I don't know anything about him. We only spent a few years together, and in my memories, he's always smiling, always putting his heart into helping someone. He never once showed me an angry, sad, or pained expression.
Sometimes I think. For my father, who was too kind, this world must not have been a very pleasant place.

My father died in an accident. But that was just the way the dice had fallen, and in reality… I’d thought about things like that before, but now, no one would ever know the truth. Perhaps my mother knew everything. But whatever she was carrying, she would take it to her grave.

What were you feeling? Why did you go somewhere no one’s words could reach you, leaving Mother and me behind?

Considering that Iroha admitted herself to being suicidal to Yachiyo and the fact that mental illness is hereditary they might not be far from the case.

It is literally real life gacha. You buy 1 lottery ticket and get 1 random item. They weight the prizes so the cheap junk makes up the majority of tiers and then the top A tier will be really nice and unique with a near unwinnable % chance. They haven't shown what the prizes are yet so we need to wait a few more days for the sale to start. Imagine you pay for 20 tickets at 770 yen each and get 18 stickers, keychains, can badges, or other junk of mami and mikado, with your best 2 prizes being duplicate stickers of Iroha by herself. Then some otherl ucky person will win an A tier prize buying only 1 ticket which is probably a beautiful newly drawn illustration of Kaguya and Iroha together with in a fancy nice picture frame. Just made up examples of what these end up looking like since they all are managed by the same companies.

>>4525474
Sometimes the prizes aren't terrible but generally it is impossible to get the one you are aiming for unless you buy an unreasonable number of tickets. No surprise that they make the A tier prize close to or under 5% win rate and just happen to make the tickets conveniently have the same shipping cost if you buy up to 20 of them (1/.005 = 20). The only upside is most of the time these events don't use unique art so it is easy to avoid.

>>
>>4525541
I strongly disagree. Some works are written to keep things ambiguous, and allow a romantic interpretation to be as plausible as strong friendship. But this isn't one of them, and it's a mistake to consider them equivalent. "You were my best friend" is not on the same level as "I fell in love with you at first sight."
>>
>>4525541
Kaguya literally says she loves her and proposes to her and Iroha accepts and says she wants to be with her. This is in a movie that is crystal clear how it follows real Japanese folklore that is over 1000 years old and literally names the character after the princess who is doomed to be separated from her lover. Except this movie explicitly says fuck that lets cross time and space to get the happily ever after and be together. Ok you got this far so I can stop holding back on calling you a brainlet. Maybe get off your phone next time you watch a movie.

Yachiyo doing the same pre-show routine as Kaguya, but the bunny changed to loach (a type of fish), symbolizing Yachiyo's change over time.

While we're talking about foreshadowing. Look at these tears. Kaguya and Yachiyo cry in the same exaggerated way with tears that hang down like pendulums. Except Yachiyo's look fake like from an emote, while Kaguya's are drawn in a more real way.
Nobody else cries in this way in the entire movie, once again driving home the connection between these two. This movie's details are truly endless.

I was curious about it, so I asked Director Yamashita, and it seems Kaguya was captivated by the sight of Iroha gargling... or rather, in that moment, Kaguya simply found Iroha beautiful as a living being.

The deepening relationship between Kaguya and Iroha that you two perform is one of the highlights of this work. As their relationship progressed, were there any changes in your acting approach?

Natsuyoshi: Regarding the relationship changes, there's actually a clear trigger point within Kaguya. In the early part, there's a scene where Iroha shows a sense of resignation while brushing her teeth, and I interpreted that as the moment Kaguya simply found Iroha beautiful and began wanting to make her happy. From then on, with each scene, I performed with gradually increasing affection toward Iroha.

Nagase: In Iroha's case, I don't think there was a clear specific timing. However, Iroha has a personality where she's overly concerned about others' evaluations. With Kaguya, who's the only one who affirms her, she ends up wanting to do anything for her. So through various events—both good and bad—before she knows it, her feelings for Kaguya have grown larger. I expressed that change in a gradient-like manner.

How have I NEVER realized this on my rewatches? Oh my god anons!! Kaguya was writing down easy recipes for Iroha so she wouldnt just live off instant food and energy drinks after kaguya leaves! And that note that I thought Iroha had written about not using ketchup and mayo? That is in KAGUYA'S handwriting!!!!
Kaguya is literally feeding Iroha with the best handmade food for the whole movie. I love that Kaguya is the one with the domestic skills despite being the wild one. And she wanted her girlfriend to keep eating healthy.

I think people don't give this movie enough credit for its excellent use of red herrings.
First trailer shows only baby and child Kaguya -> people think it's a story about a high school girl raising a child
Big brother appears as an antagonist named Mikado who immediately asks to marry Kaguya -> people think he is either the love interest or the major antagonist
Iroha figures out that her father's melody and Yachiyo's debut song have the same tune -> people automatically associate Yachiyo with Iroha's dad and theorize that he made Yachiyo's AI or something
They show you Kaguya's spaceship several times before showing Yachiyo's spaceship in the water tank -> people assume Yachiyo is another Lunarian who escaped the moon and might know how to get Kaguya back
Iroha says she still wants to do something to get a happy ending, it immediately cuts to a concert -> people assume she wants to be Yachiyo's producer

It's great how every twist could be explained in another way before its revealed.

Praying that it does well and we get some more Kaguya crumbs and more yuri funding in general.

The age gap thing is too funny. Makes it seem like its about child Kaguya and teen Iroha, but its actuall Yachiyo yapping about how she wants to be in an age gap relationahip with Iroha herself lol

You should check out the Light Novel or at least the stuff anons posted about it here. Iroha is like 120% gayer in the LN, because we get all her inner thoughts. She explicitely says she is in love with Kaguya etc.
>>
>>4525852
I kinda like the idea that Yaccho specifically made a way to earn/use in game money irl specifically for struggling Iroha.
>>
>>4525862
Wait, have you watched the epilogue MV in the OP yet? Just the movie isnt enough. There ia extra content!
>>
>>4525777
The anime made her a gremlin but in the LN it was clear she has grown to be pretty dependable and not only was a good emotional support for Iroha, she took good care of Iroha too.
Honestly they should have cut the entire Kassen battle to focus on some other details from the LN. Damn Shingo and his hardon for Summar War.
>>
>>4525951
Kaguya being a dependable partner comes across perfectly fine in the movie too. She's exuberant but never does anything that could jeopardize Iroha's living conditions after the one time she wastes her money on another pair of VR contacts. She cooks for her, takes proper care of her when she's sick, splits the bills, stops being too pushy, is caring about Iroha's needs and understanding about her family issues.

>they should have cut the entire Kassen battle
Hell no, it's fun, expands the setting and is also part of their relationship development by showing how deeply they've come to understand each other.
>>
>>4525953
Kaguya only gives off dependable vibe in the movie after Iroha got sick. The impression before that was that she literally pushed Iroha to the brink, disregarding Iroha living space and overworked her with streaming stuff.

Before that the movie didnt do well to portray her as a good partner at all.
>>
>>4525964
Literally the first scene after Kaguya's smartcon blunder was her making an elaborate meal for Iroha and making her eat something healthy for the first time in months. Even if Iroha despaired at the price, the good foos actually cheered her up. The theme continues with Kaguya asking what Iroha wants for dinner in the montage.
Kaguya also encourages Iroha to play music again, something she had a mental block for until then, finally freeing her from that torment.
When Iroha refuses to appear publically in the limelight on eventa, Kaguya gets her a fox costume to lower her anxiety.

And from the get-go Kaguya wants a happy ending for the stubborn Iroha too. She's dragging her out of her comfort zone (which was actually self-imposed jail). Iroha's trying to do both and being unable to say no is what leads to her collaps. I dont think Kaguya really understood how much Iroha pushed herself until then, but ahe cares.
>>

Great recommendation. I'm still reading this myself. The main pair's relationship is extremely precious. Sadly the TL for the second volume is just poor MTL quality. The first one's reads like a human actually translated and QC'd it. The second volume's TL constantly finds new ways to translate terms that already appeared a dozen times in the same chapter or randomly switches to "he" for girls. It's a shame that my Japanese isn't on the level where I could read it raw at a sane pace as this stuff gets pretty involved with references to mythology and Japanese/Chinese history.

>I love that Kaguya is the one with the domestic skills despite being the wild one
I think one of the best parts of IroKagu's dynamic is that they are both incredibly high spec girls, but they are completely complementary to each other. They have almost no overlap in their skills, so they perfectly slot into each other like puzzel pieces.

Iroha is good at making music and playing it, but she can't (or doesnt want to) sing. Kaguya is the one who sings her songs and gives them life.

Iroha can't cook beyond the basics and doesn't have time to either, so she only eats fast food and drink energy drinks. Meanwhile Kaguya has an innate 5 star chef soul and loves cooking and challenging herself with new dishes, providing for Iroha.

Kaguya is terrible at time management, learning rules or going through the logic of things, so Iroha grounds her and gets things organized.

Kaguya is decent at the combat in Kassen, but she is mostly just using instinct, while Iroha is clearly por gamer level and much better at the game as it is meant to be played. But in return Kaguya comes up without out of the box strategies because she doesnt really care to be good at how the game is "meant" to be played. They synergize greatly because of that.

Kaguya is the emotional core of the relationship, while Iroha is the bedrock. If Iroha couldn't keep up with kaguya's wild needs and follow through with her unreasonable side, it wouldn't work. But if Kaguya wasn't pushing and expressing her feelings honestly (which Iroha cant) the relationship wouldnt work either.

Holy shit, Iroha is right handed and Kaguya is left handed. They just complement each other in every way.

Ok, I'll bite, just this once and please try not to be a moron. This is gonna be long so use your brain.

The time loop starts when Iroha sings a song to Kaguya and she comes back from the moon. Kaguya falls around 6000BC, You know what was happening with humanity back then? Fucking nothing. She falls into despair and hopes for Yachiyo to come and save her, probably because she hopes Yachiyo is a lunarian like herself and not just a robot.

Yachiyo obviously doesn't come and Kaguya, through Fushi, starts her long waiting journey back to Iroha. Kaguya tells her story through the ages, recieving help and empathy from other people and witnessing the best and the worst of humanity. At some point in the late 1900 she finally figures out that she was supposed to be Yachiyo and that she's stuck in this closed time loop. She also accepts the role Yachiyo had, which is someone who smiles and bears it for the sake of more important things, just like all the brave people she met through time. The internet is suddenly real, Kaguya logs in, becomes a channer, a chatbot, goes into Niconico until Tsukuyomi can exist.

One of the first things Kaguya does when she wakes up as Yachiyo is sing her debut song. She sings it until she's sure Iroha has heard her, Iroha hears this song sometime around 2020 when her dad dies. This song saves her. In the MV there's a small scene where little Iroha is chatting with Yachiyo about her troubles. Kaguya is there for her as comforting figure because that's what Iroha needs. Iroha doesn't need money until she moves out.
>>
>>4526374
"Why doesn't Yachiyo just give Iroha a billion yen? Is she stupid?"
>>
>>4526386
Yachiyo literally can't send money to Iroha and pull her out of poverty for two reasons, first Iroha's issue is that she basically ran away from Home to not deal with her mother, she's living life in hard mode because she's a pushover, money would have made it worse and second, because it's a closed time loop, the fact that she exists means that everything already happened, she can't change Iroha's life because that would be changing her own past which already happened.

Kaguya falls as a baby when Iroha is poor and tired as fuck, it can't be changed, Yachiyo is just an spectator and does whatever she can to be as close to Iroha as possible, makes songs for her, handshake events, streams stuff that's súper coincidentally just what Iroha needs to hear.

Not only does she help Iroha until Kaguya arrives as a baby, she was ready to let go when Kaguya left for the loop so Iroha wouldn't have to suffer more
>>
>>4526386
>>4526389

Thanks for your reply. However, accepting your role and smiling and bearing how things are is exactly the opposite of the theme of the movie. Iroha is doing that in her life and it's destroying her, it takes Kaguya to come along and shake her out of the rut.

Yachiyo has foreknowledge, she has power and opportunity and there is absolutely no reason why she couldn't change the future to help Iroha - she'd already shown the initiative to do exactly that by time traveling in the first place. "Closed time loop" is made up nonsense, Yachiyo simply chose to go along with how Kaguya remembered things for her own convenience.

>money would have made it worse
How? If Iroha had money she wouldn't need to stress over budgeting, or use her time and energy at a shitty casual job. Or even if Yachiyo didn't send her money she could have easily befriended Iroha and helped her emotionally, Iroha kept her anxieties and stress secret from her friends so having someone she could confide in would have been a massive help.

And I see making the song, streaming etc as the absolute bare minimum of "help" that just kept Iroha alive long enough to meet Kaguya. I don't know about you but there is no way I would be content to just spectate as the person I was in love with suffered from depression and collapsing from stress and over work.

Yachiyo showed that she could effortlessly defeat the moon people, but she was suspiciously absent from Kaguya's graduation battle. She could even have given Iroha and her friends the same or better cheat abilities that Mikaido used, or just straight up made them invincible. Yachiyo just waited for Kaguya to be out of the picture so she could fulfill the conditions for Kaguya to time travel and then so she could be happy. Christ sakes she could have even warned Kaguya about the asteroid and prevent the accident in the first place.
>>
This retard doesn't understand the movie or can even remotely think for himself. Ignore him. He literally baited with "x character is actually a sociopath" meme bait and then did the "why did character not prevent WW2" follow up bait. He is not real.
>>
>>4526398
Yeah it is one thing to misunderstand the time travel since it can be a lot on the first viewing. But to fundamentally refuse to accept how this time travel worked and use that as justification to intentionally misinterpret the rest of the story is a new one to see.
>>
>>4526399
So Yachiyo was somehow prevented from doing anything differently? Her actions were controlled?
>>
>>4526395
Wow, you truly are a moron, this is not back to the figure or Madoka where every change creates a new timeline, this is just one loop, Kaguya travels back in time because she always did. Yachiyo can't change her own past, the past can't be changed. If Iroha had one more yen in her account at the beggining of the movie it would be changing Yachiyo's past too. It's not going to change because you don't like it.

Why don't you go watch Dark SO You can see what a loop is like? Then go bother /tv/

And you're right the movie is not about bearing it, which is why Iroha takes Kaguya to a true happy ending.
>>
>>4526395

>Yachiyo never exists

>>
>>4526402
>>4526401
It being some kind of unalterable loop is just an assumption. Yachiyo never tried to change anything.
>>
>>4526400
You have probably read or at least heard about stories where star crossed lovers were fated to reunite. The question of free will isn't really that they can't decide for themselves, but that anything Kaguya does or decides to do as Yachiyo already happened. If she tried to give money to Iroha, something would have intervened to prevent it because Iroha never received anything from Yachiyo like that. In the context of the story Iroha and Kaguya never truly part, only Kaguya has the misfortune of spending so much time in the past. If you truly want to understand it read the wiki for a bootstrap paradox since it does a good job explaining the concept.

Iroha has been living alone for a combined 3 months at the start of the movie. She has barely suffered that much by the point Kaguya arrives. Yachiyo already knows Kaguya will save Iroha, so there is actually very little time where Iroha has to suffer "alone".

And here is the kicker, Yachiyo has been there for Iroha the entire time she needed her. There is a reason iroha says Yachiyo is the reason she kept living, that her song saved her life. Yachiyo made the song that was based on her father's melody for her. She made a conultation chat where she actively listend to Iroha's troubles and gave her life advice to reduce her suffering, even before Iroha moved out. She made Tsukuyomi as a way for people like Iroha to enjoy life and get away from their troubles. She made it so you can even use in-game currency to pay for stuff in real life.

You say Yachiyo has huge monetary ressources, but that is clearly not true, considering she cant even fund her own robot body research for Iroha in the epilogue. She is clearly using all money to maintain Tsukuyomi, which is not a predatory money drain scheme unlike all other mass multitplayer platforms, because Yachiyo made it to help suffering people and creators in the first place. Her scope has extended far beyond Iroha.

No, Yachiyo could not "defeat" the Lunarians, she could just delay them. If she stopped them in Tsukuyomi they would either destroy Tsukuyomi or damage the real world seriously until Kaguya is handed over. Lunarians could hack every piece of technology in the real world easily. They could make society collapse on a whim.

You dont get it. Any change she makes would automatically undo her own existence, which would mean she could never do the thing that changed the timeline in the first place. This is a time travel paradox. Because Yachiyo's existence is intrinsically tied to such incredibly specific events, you cannot alter anything involving Iroha or the paradox will trigger.
>>
>>4526408
>Any change she makes would automatically undo her own existence, which would mean she could never do the thing that changed the timeline in the first place.

Is there any evidence of that whatsoever?
>>
>>4526410
Use your brain. It's like a simple equation is beyond you. Any meaningful change in Iroha's life will prevent the events of the movie to happen, which will mean Yachiyo doesn't exist anymore, which means Yachiyo never made the change in the first place. This is simple fucking logic. If you don't understand what time travel paradoxes are, then read up on them. This is my last reponse to this inane point.

>>
>>4526411
I understand paradoxes quite fine, thank you, but it's just pure assumption. If time travel was even possible nobody knows how it works, or what effect changing past events would have. Not only does the film not state how time travel works in the setting Yachiyo makes no attempt or give any explanation on changing events.

For example, let's say Yachiyo lost her memory of how she ended up time traveling and so could therefore not follow the predetermined course of events. Given her personality and love for Iroha, would she sit back willingly while Iroha suffered and be content with not pursuing a relationship with her? An emphatic no. Therefore, only her knowledge of events constrained her actions, not any kind of cosmic law preventing it.
>>
>>4526415
>if time travel was even possible none of us would know how it works!
>literal time traveler from a race who can time travel says it's a closed loop that can't be changed
First you claim nobody can know because we cannot time travel to find out, but you also claim that the ones who can time travel can't know, because we don't know. Pretty fucking stupid.

It's almost like you either use logic, which leads to time travel paradoxes or you believe the fucking character who knows more than you. Either way you failed.
>>
>>4526417
>literal time traveler from a race who can time travel says it's a closed loop that can't be changed

Was that stated in the film? Can you give me a time because I'd be happy if this was stated
>>
>>4526415
It doesn't need to state how time travel works because it assumes you will have the intelligence to figure it out.

The timeline was always like this. Theres are no "what if" Yachiyo and Iroha are chained by fate like a greek myth. Even Yachiyo says it's a cycle when she tells Iroha the truth

In addition, she is saying this about the Kaguya who is on the moon right now, not even time traveling yet. This means she considers this unchangable fate and as the only source on how time travel works, this is simply the only info you can believe, especially because this is the writer speaking through Yachiyo. This is the intended way time travel works in this story. It's a stable loop. Hence why the solution is to go beyond the loop for the happy ending.
>>
>>4526420
Sure if that's how it has to be. I would have liked to have that presented visually, perhaps a short sequence of Yachiyo detailing her attempts to escape the cycle. As it stands it just sounds like her giving up. Thanks for your time.
>>
>>4526412
Twitter is true ass yes
>>
>>4526421
I get your frustation but there are not even attempts to escape in a paradox like Homura did in Madoka Mágica. Kaguya did what she could to reach Iroha so they could have a happy end and chickened out because she thought she was too old.
>>

Nobody is sure (assuming you mean after the epilogue ray MV), but until the MV's events happen it's assumed Yachiyo is just running the Kaguyabot and her Tsukuyomi avatar simultaneously.

I'm pretty sure the Yachiyo from the final concert was created a week ago so 8000 year old Yachiyo is in the Kaguya body. So I vote that the new Yachiyo is an actual AI
>>
>>4526456
Or did only a copy of Yachiyo get put into the Kaguya body, so original Yachiyo is actually still in Tsukiyomi?
>>
>>4526456
I'm pretty sure that was just a joke about how it had been 8000 years since she performed as "Kaguya" but had done a concert as "Yachiyo" just a week or so ago
>>
>>4526456
>>4526461
Not this again... by the end of the movie Kaguya's soul from her shaceship is controlling the Kaguyabot but she clearly does this remotely through Tsukuyomi, which is why the original Yachiyo is also still there. Yachiyo can make copies of herself, this is nothing new. That's why she can hold a concert as both Kaguya and Yachiyo at the same time.

It only gets complicated in the epilogue MV where they bury the spaceship and Kaguya allegedly becomes "fully human", whatever that means. By that point the Yachiyo in Tsukuyomi might really be just a simulation or it's Kaguya logging in as Yachiyo.

Credit to some guy on twitter: Iroha and Kaguya used to have two toothbrushes in Iroha's old apartment, but when Yachiyo recreates it for her story there's only one, likely because she doesn't consider herself to be Iroha's Kaguya anymore until Iroha rebukes her.
>>
>>4526516
I think Yachiyo recreated that one-room appartment as it was on the day where Iroha took her in, which means there was only one toothrush at that point. The room is exactly as it was before Kaguya invaded with all her 100-yen store stuff after all.

The LN mentions that when they ate at the table together that first time, Iroha feels like instead of being left handed, Kaguya was merely mirroring her. Not sure if this really comes across in the anime since Kaguya is already holding the spork in her left hand before Iroha eats.

Considering Kaguya does basically everything with her left hand, including writing, playing guitar and holding cooking utensils, I think it's fair to say she is in fact left handed. Ambidextrous with a preference at the very least.

>in Japanese mythology there are moon rabbits making mochi. Kaguya is from the moon so she is a rabbit.
That's not all, rabbits on the moon pound mochi with a mallet, and that's why Kaguya's weapon in Tsukuyomi is a hammer.
Same reason a lot of bunny figures in japanese media are associated with hammers, such as Erina in Rabi Ribi, or Kyouka in Usagi wa Kaku Katariki, but it's more on point here since she's from the moon herself.
>>
>>4526548
Which makes Yachiyo's sea themed design also more interesting. She rejects her moon ancestry and instead was "reborn" in mother ocean. So all about her is themed around the deep sea.

It was already mentioned during the MV discussion, but Tsukuyomi changing from night to day and Yahi/Kagu's moon hair piece being replaced by the sun (that which gives life on Earth) is basically the same thing. Moving on from the moon.

I actually have a slightly different interpretation of 星降る海 than the one that I usually see, in that I think Yachiyo isn't actually singing just to Iroha, but also at least in part to Kaguya, and I'm curious if anyone else thinks it might be more than just reaching.

>Many thousand years, All this time I've waited, And now, The day we meet is finally here
The only first meeting here is actually Yachiyo and Kaguya, we know Yachiyo and Iroha have already met and interacted before this

>And see how even on the darkest path,The moon shines down to light our way, There, on the shore of the sea, Can you smell the salt in the air, And feel me standing right there with you. Cause forever more, I promise somewhere out there, I'll still be watching over you
She's singing, not just to just the Kaguya here and now, but to the Kaguya after she crashes to Earth on the shore in the past, who will have just started down a dark 8,000 year path, but Yachiyo is saying that she can do it, that Yachiyo herself can look back on her past and know that Kaguya can make it through

>So please, Keep laughing from the depths of your heart, And please, Keep gathering those bright happy days, And there in the future you make, You and I, Can feel our hearts light up with joy
Note that it's not Iroha that is laughing the vast majority of the time, but Kaguya. Yachiyo is telling Kaguya to enjoy this time to the fullest, to gather up as much happiness as she can, so that in the future, the two of them, or rather, the unification of them, can feel the joy of being with Iroha.
>>
>>4526579 (me)
>We'll make it happen now, It's time to let our story begin
Literally she's singing of the time when her own story begins, both as Kaguya at the very start of her story, and the start of being able to see what comes next as Yachiyo.

Put together, she's encouraging Kaguya to come dance and sing with her, so that she can make Kaguya's short time with Iroha as full of happiness as possible, to build up that store of love and happy memories that she knows will be all Kaguya will have to fall back on her 8,000 year journey to becoming Yachiyo
>>
So there are three Kaguyas now? The Kaguya being time displaces, RoboKaguya and Yachiyo?
Also, was the fuckhuge asteroid passing between the Moon and Earth (in astronomical terms, it's disastrously close) mentioned before it appeared?
>>
>>4526585
>So there are three Kaguyas now? The Kaguya being time displaces, RoboKaguya and Yachiyo?
In a sense. After the timeskip there's pre-time travel Kaguya currently working on the moon and post-time travel Kaguya inside the android body. The virtual Yachiyo shouldn't count as a fully separate being from the latter, it's just a copy.

>asteroid
No, but that happens 80 years later so it's normal it wouldn't be mentioned during the story.
>>
>>4526580
Remember that during the main concert after the Cup, Yachiyo's speech was about how she wants to make memories of this day that she will forever remember, even in the darkest times. The self she is talking about here is obviously present Kaguya.
The songs are towards Iroha, but that speech was definitely meant for her younger self.
>>

I hope Kaguya was able to wait most of the time in China because nothing happens in Japan until around around 600BC

8000 years is an insane amount of time, I'm glad Iroha was a top tier girlfriend and her only quality was not "being nice" like a lot of Japanese media
>>
>>4526617
It honestly feels like it was meant to be 800 years originally (that's also where the Kaguya myth allegedly originated). Maybe Shibgo went for 8000 years because it was more dramatic? But in every flashback except the first one it's always about much latter Japanese history, when shit actually happens. I think 800 years would have made the most sense narratively, but that doesnt work with the name Yachiyo.
>>
>>4526617
>nothing happens in Japan until around around 600BC
Nothing that we know of. For all we know, historians and writers of the time decided to edit was going on because it'd be too unbelievable for the future people.
Wish they had been like Roman historians, who wrote a general fighting a dragon on his way to Carthage and didn't give two shits if people believed them or not.
>>
>>4526548
They even show rabbits pounding mochi when the scene transitions using her eyes. The sheer amount of attention in each second of animation make me really curious how much budget they were given for this movie.

>>4526579
Every time I watched it I cried during the songs for different reasons because the perspective of the story shifts and deepens every time. It works from every angle, Yachiyo singing to Iroha, to Kaguya, Yachiyo singing as Kaguya. It is incredible how many ways they can be interpreted. This movie absolutely took full advantage of its medium in using its animation, music, and voice acting to tell its story but the music stands out in how it elevates the narrative on each rewatch.

>>4526587
We may as well extrapolate that Kaguya's ship pinging off the side of the deadly space rock helped divert its course just enough to prevent an extinction level event.
>>
>>4526665
Or the "asteroid" was in fact tiny, as Kaguya's ship seems to be very small.

So I was watching one of those terrible (in a good way) niche JP youtube shitpost videos. Those that use the really bad text to speech voices and also some AI voices to have fake discussions with themselves (or based on some real chat they had with friends). The video was about Iroha in CPK.
Basically the video was powerscaling Iroha and building up just how absurd and superhuman she is. By the end she was compared to superpowered shounen protagonists and got all her feats listed. They were also shocked a female protagonist was the most perfect superman ever made.

Some of the highlights were that she is perfect at every subject at school, athletic, only needs 3 hours of sleep, is a pro gamer despite only playing recreationally, capable of going into the best university for a law course and instead being able to just swtich to the sciences, which requires a completely different exam, without dropping grades. She is also a perfect beauty despite eating garbage and not sleeping enough.
Then she also somehow managed to survive taking in 8000 years worth of memories and information in what could only have been a few minutes, didn't die from the feedback and when she woke up she was not brain damaged or even changed at all by the millenia of suffering and PTSD. Then she just casually revolutionizes robotics and makes a perfect android in 10 years somehow.

They also talked about her entire family line is full of superhumans, to the point where god had to nerf their bloodline by making the children gay. One of the responses was "Same sex partners can't have children? That sounds like something a weakling would think." They already considered that Iroha would just randomly switch to biology and start finish iPS research or find some kind of soul technology to make kids. Nothing can stop her.

The funniest part of all was that everyone agrees that without a protag this high spec it would have been impossible to get a happy ending for the Bamboo Cutter tale.

If I manage to get a hold of that acrylic that comes out in May I'll try it, but that is so far away. I'd prefer making stuff to put Kaguya and Iroha in their room as a diorama, or a nice scale figure of them doing something together. So I noticed something that feels like an inconsistency, but this movie is too well thought out for that to be the case... When the Lunarians first attack after the concert, the date displayed on the hacked screen is the 12th of September.
But in the scene afterwards where Roka and Mami tell Iroha to go to the fireworks festival it starts on the 1st of September.

So I wondered why the timeline is so inconsistent... could it be the Lunarians were actually announcing when they would take Kaguya back to the moon? It seemed like they were seriously attempting to take her back, but that makes it look like they were merely delivering the message. After all Kaguya knew the exact date of her extraction after this.

Also in the split second where Kaguya gets mindfucked, you can pause and see a coding screen which basically retells chunks of the Bamboo Cutter tale. It's insane to put this much detail in a single frame...

And there is more. There is no blood in Tsukuyomi, yet the Lunarian drone's arm gets cut off with ink black blood, further driving home that they are outsiders that shouldnt be here.

Are you freaking SERIOUS? The crescent moon on kaguya's outfit was a CUTOUT the entire time??? How did I not notice that on 5 rewatches?? It shows her navel in several scenes even.

I saw this on X over the weekend but forgot to mention it, it's hilarious, those are details that aren't always obvious, probably in an official reference book this will be clearer along with some other details.
But it's even funnier that there are probably ulterior motives behind that design on Kaguya's part, and we all know what I mean by that.
>>
>>4526889
That's a good point. I was wondering why they used the anglerfish.

>>4526893
They invaded to remind Kaguya of her duties on the moon and that's why when Yachiyo told the lunarians to be patient they apologized for the disruption. We also see the lunarian messengers just hanging around their apartment after this and they aren't trying to do anything. They weren't taking her back when that messenger grabbed her arm and we see later that a full fledged royal delegation would be tasked to transport her back. This is also why her eyes go dull because the reminder saps the joy of life. OL life on the moon is rough.

Someone already posted the interview pages. Mostly fluff but it did confirm Iroha used to love Yachiyo as a mommy.

Jesus fucking Christ. This triangle relationship has every possible complex in existence. Iroha seea Yachiyo as her mother-girlfriend and Kaguya as her daughter-girlfriend. Yachiyo is into age gap relationships and Kaguya is into gargling.

>Kaguya is into gargling.
I better see a doujin where Iroha eats Kaguya out then gargles like it's fine mouthwash while Kaguya looks on entranced.
>>
>>4526990
Yes.
The movie pretty much just focuses on Iroha and Kaguya relationship but if you read the novel a very big focus is Iroha's emotional dependency on her mother. In fact her being able to break out of it due to her relationship with Kaguya is as much of a character arc for Iroha as her love and devotion with Kaguya.

They probably thought that theme was too heavy for the movie and just cut it almost completely.
>>
I need a million doujins about domestic bliss with Yachiyo after getting to feel in Tsukuyomi and another million of her enjoying her life in Kaguyabot.
>>
>>4527000
I think the movie conveyed her unhealthy love-hate relationship with her mother pretty well. It's best conveyed when she acts like her mother or tries to get her approval, while also hating being like her mother and trying to become independent of her.

Still it's not surprising that ahe initially saw Yachiyo as her mother figure, becauae Yachiyo was actually emotionally supportive and had infinite time to listen and care (especially about Iroha). Meanwhile her real mother is a high profile lawyer and constantly busy. The little time she can spare she just basically treats Iroha like she is going ro be swallowed by the world and needs to become as tough as herself.

>Yachiyo controlled the power lines to send Kaguya to Iroha's utility pole
I don't really see anything, could be or couldn't equally. It also doesn't add any necessary component to their first meeting since it was already fated to happen.
>>
>>4527023
Since it's a paradox, anything that Yachiyo did in her own free will had actually happened before. So it could be, I see the "anxious" dropplets of energy too

I personally think Yachiyo did most of the stuff she did for Iroha and Kaguya because she geniunely wanted to, not because she remembered what was she supposed to do in the first place (other than the obvious stuff) I'm sure she wanted to help her past self to enjoy the best time of their lives as much as possible and it wouldn't be weird to go check out the meeting happens just in case.

I'm sure she watched every Kaguya stream and was probably swooning when Iroha was beating up the npcs trying to court Kaguya
>>
>>4527035
Yeah from Yachiyo's point of view she's been waiting for these moments 8000 years and considers each a precious memory. I like the idea that she is watching over these pivotal moments even though she doesn't need to do anything to ensure they happen.

I just love that the equivalent to the impossible tasks given to the suitors in the original tale is defeating an exhausted and overworked lesbian school girl.

And it actually feels just as impossible!

- We understand that Kaguya's character design was decided from the point where it was based on "Kaguya-hime," but how was Iroha decided?

Actually, initially, as a straightforward, easy-to-understand story, the option of "a beautiful girl named Kaguya appears before an unremarkable man..." briefly crossed my mind. But upon thinking about it, in reality, a streamer having a male partner tends to become quite a sensitive issue, so making the protagonist female-female was almost a must. Beyond that, to establish both Kaguya and Iroha's characters simultaneously, I decided to make them complete opposites. Since I was imagining Kaguya as an extremely free-spirited character, Iroha became a character who rebels against such Kaguya and lives trying not to stray from the rails she set for herself.

-Regarding Yachiyo, whom Kaguya and Iroha admire, what were you thinking about when you shaped her character?

This touches on a bit of a spoiler for the later part of the story, but the reason Iroha admires Yachiyo is that Yachiyo is her ideal mother figure. However, as those who have watched to the end will know, there's a twist where the person she admired like a mother is actually... Yachiyo is a character with a shadow lurking beneath her brightness, but we don't hint at that during the story. I had Saori Hayami, who plays Yachiyo, be very thorough about that.

So anons guessing that they were intentionally complimentary in traits and even had left/right hand differences were right on the mark. Also this movie marks the one time that streamer toxicity culture somehow turned into a massive boon for yuri. And the work they put into hiding so many completely missable details with Yachiyo in the movie that only benefit someone who watches it again is basically unmatched in yuri stories across any medium as a whole.
>>

I hate the trope "perfect waifu falls for random normal dude" I barely tolerate in lesbians too, how come this is the first things that comes to mind when making a movie in this day and age? Thank god for toxic otaku

Kaguya and Yachiyo's Super Consultation Corner!

A corner where the popular streamers Kaguya and Yachiyo answer everyone's questions and worries! We received a ton of questions this time too. Check out their uniquely wild answers!

Q1: I always look forward to Yachiyo's live shows! What kind of show are you planning next?

Yachiyo: There have been a lot of high energy ones lately, so how about a 'Recommended for falling asleep! Peaceful sleep inducing' live show? I'll sing some relaxing songs quietly! I want to set up bed style seating and have everyone watch while lying down~

Q2 : Help me, Yachiyo! I'm starting a new life this spring and I'm anxious... Give me some encouragement!

Yachiyo: Even if you plan things out perfectly, you never know if they'll go well. There are things in the world and in your own heart that don't go as you wish, and it makes you anxious, right? At times like that... summon me into your heart I'm an AI who's on humanity's side, so I'll cheer you on like crazy! I'll always be by your side.

Q1 : Your last live show was super cute, and your dancing was so sharp I want to know what your next live show will be like!

Kaguya: I have so, so, so many things I wanna do, I don't have enough bodies for it all! Man, I wish I could make clones like Yachiyo~. How about we use a ton of Kaguyas to do a human pyramid and make a giant Kaguya Castle stage, and then do a live show there? All the Kaguyas would start singing and it'd be total chaos! That'd be hilarious!

Q2 : Kaguya, I got into a fight with my friend... How can I make up with them?

Kaguya: Say everything you're thinking! Misunderstandings make me feel all squirmy... Maybe Kaguya's allergic to misunderstandings! If that still doesn't work, then just cut them off! ...Huh? That's not me being cold! You can just hang out again when you feel like it, right? I don't think everything's over just just because you separate once~

> I don't think everything's over just just because you separate once~
