Is it worth playing? How does it compare to the later games?

Pikmin 1 Switch is the best version because now you don’t need speedrun jank strats to get normal feeling gameplay.
Pikmin 2 is about the same as any other version, but they fixed the bridge build speed exploit so that’s about it.
They censored things in regards to Olimar’s and Louie’s family history and the Pikmin 2 item has generic stuff over the product endorsement so that’s a negative if you care about narrative aesthetics.

That said they aren’t as hand holding like the other games, but if you played the other games then you’ll be fine. I still recommend them but they have their own unique quirks that you probably haven’t seen before.
>>
>>681410096
Well I think Pikmin 1 "Switch" is just the Wii version with enhancements no?
Either way, they nailed the stick + gyro hybrid controls with Pikmin 1 + 2, it only activates when you throw or whistle which is perfect for me.
>They censored things in regards to Olimar’s and Louie’s family history
Actually didnt know about this. But I think the treasure "rebranding" ended up being totally fine. A lot of them look like real brands or dollar store/generic brand stuff.

Oh also as for the games quality yes, they are absolutely worth playing. No other Pikmin game feels quite like 1. 2 is also pretty good though I dont like the cave spam.
>>
>>681409372
Silly question, does those games run at 1080p 60fps?
>>
>>681410096
No there's some stull in the versus mode that is worse in twos port like the non fully randomized layouts being unaccessible fir some reason.
>>
>>681409372
1 is kino and thats probably the best version of it you can play, dont play the wii version its buggy as fuck, if you liked 3 then youll like 1
gamecube one is a bit janky but its fine overall
2 is pretty weird because it still has a lot of mechanics i like but theres not really any time management like the first one, its like 4 but if it turned into a rage game made by edmund McMillan half way through
it also has nintendo treehouse stink all over it with them taking out a lot of the funny jokes in the treasure log and censoring a lot of stuff

id just play both on dolphin unless you have a hacked switch, you can tie the wii pointer to your mouse movements so thats a cool way to play 2
>>
>>681410096
They also removed the demo that would play if you waited on the title screen due to being too lazy to rerecord it.

all pikmin good

They're the best games in the series, particularly 2.

1 is a short and sweet game that establishes the gameplay. Good game design and comfy 2000s aesthetic, can be beaten in an afternoon.

2 is the beefier, darker, and more difficult sequel. It's significantly longer due to the addition of caves, and the difficulty is fantastic with actual challenging (but fair) segments. Awesome game that's wildly regarded as the series best by hardcore fans.

The Switch ports of 1 and 2 are alright, they look good but Pikmin 2 has most of the branded items changed to generic variants. They also have a retarded censorship for minor flavor text

Nah, 2 is the worst. The caves rely too much on rng and too many times they are too narrow. 4 definitely did caves better.
The best game is 1 and none of the sequels manage to truly replicate its feel.

Legitimately filtered. Pikmin 2 isn't that tough, it's still a Nintendo game

With 4 basically being the successor to 2 it's a bit disappointing how rarely it indulges in the same kind of sadistic bullshit

There were only three volatile dweevils in the whole game

You people are retarded, 3 obviously takes place after 2, and 4 is a total reboot. Reboot Alph/Brittney/Charlie show up in 4 and they're clearly different iterations of the characters.
>>
>>681416954
It's still annoying and can be a lot of bullshit if the rng is against you.

Actually currently playing 2. Beat 1 when it came out multiple times and then again when the 1+2 came out, but this is my first run through 2.

1 has the better atmosphere by a country mile. It’s a fight for survival for both you and the Pikmin. 2 is definitely significantly denser, but the tone and atmosphere shift is a huge negative for me; so much so that I almost dropped it entirely. The caves are okay, but having a hand-crafted overworld instead of the procedural underground’s would have been preferred. I understand it, as it lets them make more content in a timely manner, but I don’t like it.

I only just finished the 10,000 collection, so I cannot comment further. I’ve also not yet played 3/4. 1 is fantastic, 2 is good, but you might not like it depending on what it was you loved about 1.

>Reboot Alph/Brittney/Charlie show up in 4 and they're clearly different iterations of the characters.
They're not. They are confirmed to be related to the Koppaites from 3 with at least one of them being a family member and the game heavily implies that Pikmin 3 will happen not long after the story.
>>
>>681417136
The RNG doesn't affect the levels as much as you think it does. Every floor in the game is a deliberately designed level, the RNG just switches like 2-4 quadrants of that level around
>>
>>681417546
I didn't mean just the level layout. I also meant the bombs that drop out of nowhere randomly.
>>
>>681417165
If you thought 2's tone and atmosphere was bad you're probably not going to like it going forward. 3 and 4 all but abandon any sense of mystique and lean really hard into the cutesy and whimsical.
