>release the same game evry year before it was cool
>for some reason its okay
???
>>
>>681478889
Cause
1. Sequels came out faster back then
2. They were fucking good
>>
Because the formula is close to perfect as one can get. Just get me an updated soundtrack and new locales and I'm happy.
>>
>every year before it was cool
i implore you to look at sport games on the PSX
>>
THPS2 was the peak. Eevrythign past was a band overstaying its welcome, like Metallica.
>>
>>681479442
THUG2 was the peak. American Wasteland was okay though.
>>
>>681479442
THPS3 was the peak, go fuck yourself.
imagine shitting on the game that added reverts, stupid faggot
>>
>>681478889
From THPS1 to THUG it seemed like every version was genuinely different/improvement. But releasing them so quickly probably did cause a lot of burnout over the whole thing. It was probably the best decision though, skating wasn't going to keep that height of popularity forever.
>>
>>681478889
technology and mechanics were always improving in the late 90's so you were always getting new, better stuff each game.
>>
>>681478889
Every new game had new mechanics and environments, and didn't take 14 years to develop.
>>
>>681480740
what about THUG2?
>captcha: SKTSWM
>>
>>681483351
THUG2 is alright but it's clear the series was starting to go downhill from here.
Also all the levels suck in that game.
>>
>>681483351
nta but the best part of thug2 was the classic mode. the actual story mode is gay and trying too hard to be PG jackass
>>
IN MY HEAD
ITS GETTING BETTER ALL THE TIME
ITS GETTING BETTER ALL THE TIME
IM GETTING YOUNGER IN MY MIND.
>>
HE DROVE SO GODDAMNED FAST
NEVER DID WIN NO CHECKERED FLAGS
BUT HE NEVER DID COME IN LAST
>>
>>681483351
THUG2 came out at a time where skateboarding was waning in popularity/relevance. It was already on its way out in the first THUG, even, but the second game tried to capitalize on the new popular thing, which at the time was MTV bullshit like Jackass.
>>
>>681478889
2 added manuals
3 added reverts
4 had a free roaming career mode with no time limit
THUG added a story mode and yet another mechanic to string combos together with manuals and reverts
Don't be retarded.
>>
>>681483351
I don't think THUG2 really brought anything new to the series, it was just more THUG, this time with more Jackass.

THPS3/Project 8 are the best 2 games. American Wasteland for third.
>>
>>681486253
>natas spin on poles, fire hydrants, etc.
>flips & rolls, as in frontflipping you entire character
>instead of driving shitty vehicles, characters that can zoom very fast - like riding a chainsaw skateboard, doing tricks on a wheelchair, etc.
thug2 is still better than thug1 because you don't have to drive a shit car, holy shit are thug1 faggots retarded
>>
>>681486659
Natas spin and flips don't add anything significant. Random characters to play as just end up being gimmicks. Like Spyro or Crash running out of ideas and just scrapping the bottom of the barrel for anything new. The vehicles in THUG1 were stupid though.
>>
>>681486916
The best part of American Wasteland was scrapping the gimmicky vehicles and replacing them with a straight port of the BMX physics of Matt Hoffman.

Man, I wish instead of THUG2 or THAW they had done a Hawk vs Hoffman game
>>
people bitched about it by the third and fourth online
but you are an underage b& and weren't around for it

kys
>>
What are the best versions of each game?
>>
>>681487268
>uses kys
>pretends to have been around for it
>>
THPS1 all the way to TH:AW was the greatest string of yearly release slop in the history of games. Nothing even comes close. 6 straight years of good-great games.
>>
>>681479442
This >>681480545
THPS3 was perfect in every way
Every following sequel added unnecesary things(but they were still really good usually just not a 10/10)
>>
>>681487216
>Hawk vs Hoffman game
Tony Hawk actually talked about that in an interview with a french gaming site back when thps3 and hoffman 2 were around. he said it would be fun online.
>>
>>681478889
Also>>681487574
OP is retarded
>same game every year
New maps in every game
New mechanics added in every game
New skaters added in every game
and lots of more shit.
They are legit yearly sequels not copy paste slop

Does someone know why they seemed the drop the ball when moving from ps2 to ps3 gen? The series peaked after moving from ps1 to ps2 but did the dev team chance when moving to ps3 or did they not know how to take full advantage of it? Or were they legit out of ideas but it didn't have anything to do with the console gen?
>>
>>681484801
You can argue that in thug1, thug2 and thaw they only really added non-skating features, tho it's hard to see it as a flaw that they allowed you to get off the board to go up the stairs for example or climb to the roof because it made sense in every way.
>>
>>681487268
no one, and i mean absolutely no one, was bitching about 3 online when it came out. i genuinely don't understand what you'd get out of making up a random lie like this.
>>
>>681487475
all subjective opinions
>THPS1
Dreamcast
>THPS2
PC with the cumulative patch and korean content mod or xbox if you dont mind the nerfed menu and balance gauge
>THPS3/THPS4/THUG/THUG2
patched PC, though you're not missing out much by playing the gamecube/xbox versions for games other than thps3
>THAW
xbox 360 OR PS2 special edition/modded PC if you really care about the extra stuff
>any game past that
dont bother. hell, if i were you i'd just play THUG Pro.
>>
>>681488149
people liked 3 but started to talk about getting tired of yearly WW2 shooters/sports games/etc
>>
>>681488416
>patched PC
can you provide me some links anon?
>>
>>681487745
I was thinking of something more like THUG2, Tony and Matt decide to have a friendly competition between pro skaters and pro BMXers, and you as the player choose which team you're on and partake in a series of missions/challenges around the world absolutely rekking shit whilst trying to prove once and for all whether skateboarding or BMX is the best.
>>
>>681488759
i personally bought discs, but they're all on myabandonware i think. as for the patches, look up pcgaminwiki
>>
>>681488759
also, look up reTHAWed
>>
>>681488880
thanks anon
>>
>>681488716
People didn't start talking negatively about yearly sports roster updates and fortnightly WW2 FPS games until around 2005-2006. When THPS3 launched the whole WW2 FPS fad had only just started, CoD hadn't even debuted yet. Hell, it predates the game that inspired CoD, MoH Allied Assault.

>>681489073
eh maybe I was thinking after the fact then

Also, how come this song never made it into any TH game? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1AS56v2am6Y

Back then sequels were mostly reusing assets and then creating new mechanics and maps. Sometimes they'd update the textures or models but not much.

>>681489180
it should be harder to backpedal on a lie when called out on bullshit. thps3 came out in fucking 2001 and it was universally seen as an improvement in every way over thps2 at the time. not even madden was getting that treatment
