>>681504871>le disc rotBitch I still got CD’s from the 80’s that still working flawlessly
>>681504871YAMAUCHI DONO, I...
>>681504871Mr. Video GamesIt is an honor to have played your games.
>>681504871Until there's some amazing advancement in discs, it was really just a matter of when the storage capabilities of cartridges caught up(or became irrelevant). Even then, I don't see much of an incentive outside of longterm storage rather than the constant rapid access you need for a video game, to the point the console manufacturers entertain the idea of consoles with no disc drive. It's why the 360 introduced the abliity to install games from discs and the PS3 did it on a case-by-case basis, and then it became the de facto standard for 8th gen and 9th gen. We've basically hit the upper limit on basic physics. The Switch can use cartridges because its games don't need 70-100 GB to function. Even then, the technology is kinda there, you can get a 1 TB microSD card for the Switch, imagine that?
>>681505271I think he's taking about Sony phasing out physical media
>>681507714That's just re-writable discs, not physical media as a whole. They just agreed to take over Disney's home video production a month ago
>>681505086Which game? The picture is too low res
>>681507714Ah ok. My apologies OP.
>>681504871And only for the low low price of 10 years of literal dogshit sales, failed systems, and giving breathing room to the company that fucked your ass for two generations! Wooo, based indeed!

>>681504871>>681507409How about instead of putting little SSD's into plastic cartridges we put a big SSD into our system and put the data on there?
>>681508783why not use image search, anon?
How the fuck are carts going to work on switch 2 now that they will be getting PS4 gen tier games so 50-100gb games
>>681509369The tech is there, it doesn't mean it has to do it. Smash Ultimate or Splatoon are meaty but Super Mario Bros Wonder is like 4 GB. Nobody at Nintendo is going to waste time and space on frivolous bullshit.
>>681509369Nintendo has better compression algorithms. I'm not even joking.
>>681510002i'll believe it when i see it.
>glorified sd cards>cartridges
>>681510002Or more like Nintendo doesn't really think they need to fight other publishers for hard drive space. The file size arms race is publishers thinking if you need 500 GB for Call of Duty and Fortnite and GTA on your 1 TB machine you're less likely to install yet another competitor.
>>681510070just compare the size of the wii u games to their respective switch port.
Cartridges are almost gone too, Nintendo is selling SD Cards. The basic difference is that in cartridges, the program is physically present there, whereas in SD Cards, you only have electrical information which, in fact, in some cases, can be lost in a few years if not fed frequently (in fact, users of some Nintendo console have already had problems with this, if the rumors that have appeared on the Internet are true).
>>681510502I know that GB and GBA cartridges are already having memory problems due to faulty batteries. Is this already happening with cartridges for the Switch?
>>681510685That's because the GB and GBA cartridges needed a battery to store information on the cartridges, there's no hard drive on a game boy pocket. The Switch saves data onto the console, so it shouldn't be happening unless you've left your Switch in a heinous state for years.
>>681510685It's been happening to 3DS carts iirc.
Yamauchi was a hack who was carried by the likes of Miyamoto and Yokoi. Without the two and others Nintendo would still be trying to sell Ultra Hands today.
>>681511278>Without game developers Nintendo wouldn't be making gamesNo shit, Sherlock
How many switch 2 cartridges will have the entire game on cart? It's an issue with current switch for certain games and switch isn't even 4k capable
>>681510197>glorified punch cards>floppy disks
>>681511494It's an issue with publishers who don't want to pay for the bigger proprietary cartridges so they just ship out what's good enough and slap a warning on the box that you'll need to download the rest of Wolfendoom or whatever.
>>681505086>Ubishit
>>681513750Nintendo has done it too. When bayonetta 2 came to Switch it included the first gane as well but it was download only.
>>681504919not until the anti-piracy measurement
