It's a 5 minute buff, so in practice it will never run out during a boss fight. But it also doesn't last long enough to use during regular exploration.

Sekiro having a gameplay gimmick was fine because it was one game. Not every game needs it. I'm already sick of it. Lies of P, Star Wars, Stellar Blade. I'm done. Having a big ass shield is infinitely more fun.

It's a crappy version of Sekiro's parry. Only From could get away with this. Dont get me wrong I love their games for the most part but no other dev could get so much praise and such good sales while phoning it in on some of the most important aspects of their games. The myrmidon of loss meme was people starting to wake up to this.

making it a physick buff is good
it lets it be as extremely strong as it is without just being a best in slot item that everyone will always want to have equipped, or even worse a universal mechanic that completely invalidates shields at all times
you use it for boss fights or major encounters between graces, which never takes longer than five minutes
the physick is one of the best things ER introduced, it let them bring back super strong DS1 ring tier effects in a balanced way that also isn't making them super rare consumables that players won't use for fear of running out

The iframe backstep talisman also makes you take 15% more damage at all times. The deflection tear doesn't need a downside like that because it's a physick effect.

It's just basic weapon stuff. Two sticks hit = weapon trajectory changes. They just needed it to where when a perfect guard is used, the slash or smash misses a bit so you don't lose 90% of your fucking health to one attack of a 10 hit combo
