Something makes me angry that we know so much yet so little about HL2 development pre-2002. Why?

I always wonder about what's with the sudden change of setting to Eastern Europe. I suspect Viktor Antonov convinced Valve to move the setting to fit in the aesthetic mix of Slav architecture with the alien structure design, they did pretty well for that at least.
