i once pirated a copy of Freelancer (the microsoft games space sim) where on the third mission where a group of ships spawn in and confront you (as neutral) and then turn hostile after a cutscene... they never turned hostile, softlocking the game (if i attacked them, i failed the mission)

No, actually, I don't have any memory of anything like this happening. Piracy is great. I did get a bitcoin miner ages ago downloading obscure software off a dodgy site, but it was simple enough to remove.
