Earthbound 64 would have been kino of the highest order.

Probably would've gotten a 64 had that not be cancelled.

I liked earthbound but didn't care for mother 3. Is Mother one worth playing?

Current consensus is that it is "goyslop"

Mother 1 is good. The storytelling is minimalist like in EarthBound but a lot more sincere. It's surprisingly emotional with lots of somber and bittersweet moments throughout.

Earthbound is like a lot of SNES sequels to NES games in that it feels very much like a reimagining of the original that's dressed up as a sequel. Mother plays like a more open-ended version of the original with less dialogue and general guidance, but it's still a very charming game in its own right.
