You obviously can do this in prerendered backgrounds but in a 3D game you can't reuse 2D footage, so if they had done that, it would have objectively been worse even if they could clean up the low resolution or still have the source. Atrus has been trapped by himself with nothing but his books and ink in this little cave for who knows how long. Just writing away trying to keep Riven stable so his wife doesn't die in there. If you read the Myst novels, you know that he's in the caverns of D'ni deep under an Arizona desert and the room he's in is blocked off by cave ins. Which makes it even worse that he looks so neat and clean in the remake.He should have a full beard and be emaciated cause where the fuck is he even getting food and water? He doesn't even have a bathroom. Imagine the smell in there.

>>683719101That's not what he's saying. Reusing the footage is likely not possible, as it was a cheap project and they probably used video instead of film. Refilming it would get the same "things are different! REEEEEEEEE!" criticism. It would also look worse at higher than the video's resolution. 3D, on the other hand, can be rendered at whatever resolution you want, and the visuals will be reasonably crisp.
