Everytime I replay HL2 I'm reminded that it's worse than HL in every way, but I still love it.

I fucking love those segments of driving or sailing through an area and then seeing a building off to the side. You don't have to, but of course you stop by, have a little bit of combat, find some goodies, and then get back to traveling to your destination. Nobody going "huh, that building looks interesting - better check it out!", no long audio-logs or never ending diaries, nobody commenting on you checking out that little side-event. It's just there for you to explore if you want.

HL2 is top tier and actually tried to push tech with physics. Not as influential as HL1 though in pushing fps genre.
The climactic end chapter of half life is travelling to another dimension to fight a alien teleport summoning god, half life 2 is literally just Alx saying >lol well while we're here let's blow this thing up. Even if they didn't execute Xen as well as they could have it's at least a bold ending. HL2 is like an afterthought when you save eli.I also like the weapon selection better in half life but I understand what they were doing in HL2 with putting more emphasis on environmental weapons.
