I recently played the 2D Metroid games in chronological order (Zero Mission, Samus Returns, Super, Fusion, and Dread) and found new appreciation for each game and the series overall. I've also had my opinions drastically change with each game played. Dread and Samus Returns continue to be my favorites and I ended up really like Zero mission and Fusion, while Super ended up being the most disappointing. Super Metroid went from being my second favorite to now my least favorite game in the series and I'm convinced the reason Super is so highly regarded is solely because of nostalgia. Super is still a great game, but it's definitely the worst compared to the other games.
>chronological instead of release order
>>683750301what a fag>>683750585and this is why
>Dread and Samus Returns continue to be my favoritesWhat the actual fuck. Dread I can understand because there are at least some good ideas there but Samus Returns fucking sucked man.
>>683750585why?
>>683750690>Samus Returns fucking sucked manHow? The only thing I did not like about SR was Ridley and the fact that you are forced to counter some enemies.
I just did this as well. I think Zero Mission is such a treat. Metroid 1 really had some nice design but its original mechanics filtered me. Zero Mission made it really fast paced and fun. Honestly it might be the best one out of all of them.Super Metroid is the best vibe but there were sluggish moments in the core Metroidvania design, and I remember it more for those suspenseful moments and boss encounters than anything else.Dread was nukino but while I hate the amount of railroading with teleporters, which never feel like Elevators did in the old games, it played butter-smooth and had the most hardcore action gameplay in the series. That said, it was made by hispanics and you can feel that in the animation and cringe way they wanted to have Samus in a "woman moment" at the end. They love showing her eyes under the visor in cutscenes and how "emotional" she is. It's not quite Samus to me. She's way more of a laid back person to me, how I imagined her in Super Metroid and the NES/GB games, and how she also came across in the Prime series. And she's also trans, which idk if you've thought about yet, but I'm starting to buy into the theory. I started experimenting recently and realized that I kinda relate to Samus as well.
>>683750301>the reason Super is so highly regarded is solely because of nostalgiawell, I played them in chronological order just this past summer, and Super came out on top anyway
>>683751526>And she's also transFuck off
>>683750301I like fusion but as a sequel to super Metroid it might as well be an entirely different series
>>683751984i know its weird when they do that make it so different than say its a seqeual to an old ass game
