It's clever playing on expectations, since Demon's Souls was a creative original game. You free a guy who looks like Sauron, then you meet a lady who literally tells you to kill NPCs. Her entire quest-line ruins other quest-lines, and there's no real reason to side with her. Players who aren't thinking or roleplaying get punished.
