The game journalist jump length and at the point they double jumped tells me that the walk speed is actually rather fast, so the "pro" intentionally stopped to fall into the pit, then jump out of it. You could actually just walk completely straight and be fast enough to not even have to jump at all.

Tower climb has double jump potions that you have to consume in order to double jump. You can pick up more as you play but they're finite.

I do the game journalist one but at the very edge. Using a double jump after falling to either negate fall damage or for air control is a common tactic but I don't find it aesthetically pleasing. They should give you some other kind of parachute move if they want you to do those kinds of moves. Double jumps feel best when you're going higher and farther.

I came into this thread to say the exact same thing. Yeah, yeah, I know double jump defenders will mumble some shit about, "Muh air control!" but that just means the developers could add in better fucking air control with single jumps if it is so vital to making the game fun/playable. Double jumps fucking suck and make platforming so fucking brainless that as soon as the player gets it the majority of platforming requires double jumping.

Depends on the other variables in the level. You're only showing the terrain, not the potential moving obstacles or enemies.
Also the so-called pro-jump reminds me of one of my favorite games for the SNES. Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts.

There was a multiplayer game by some of the Realm of the Mad God dudes named Starbreak that I quit pretty quickly because its level design was like that. If you used any movement skills except where they intended you to you ended up running into spikes/lava/pits. Fucking atrocious level design in a permadeath bullet hell sidescroller.
