The enemies in 1 and 3 by the devs own admission only have some symbolic meaning and some have no meaning at all and only exists just cause. Every enemy in 2 has a connection to James subconscious. 2 has a gut wrenching heart breaking final twist that is still talked about to this day while 1 and 3 again doesn’t rise above the level of a typical pulp comic. Yes 1 and 3 have deeper meanings dealing with birth motherhood and rebirth but 2s subconscious trauma drama is superior in every way. What’s sad is 3 was originally meant to be like 2 in that it dealt with ordinary people who were broken being called to silent hill but fan request for storyline resolvement and corporate meddling forced them to make a direct sequel. The devs even mentioned that 3s storyline was originally going to be even darker than 2s. I’m not saying 1 and 3 are bad, they’re fine in their own right and even fun but 2 is just leagues beyond it’s not even funny and then the rest of the series is completely inconsequential. When you have these 3 games whose mechanics, music and atmosphere are more or less the same only the story really sets any apart and 2s is the obvious winner.
