There's no inherent problem with having a character in a wheelchair. As usual, the problem is with WHY and HOW they do it.

You shouldn't celebrate being in a fucking wheelchair. The reason why people respect someone in a wheelchair who's fit, productive, and has a good attitude is because it's a major impediment. You should want to be your strongest possible self, and that means that you should aim to walk again someday if at all possible, and it also means that you shouldn't really consider the wheelchair to be a dominant part of your identity. The moment that you start using your wheelchair as leverage to manipulate the people around you into giving you privileged treatment (promotions, parasitical grifter money, support for your narcissistic behavior, etc.), society's sympathy for you should run dry. And if you start trying to encourage people to disable themselves so that they can partake in your petty progressive stack horseshit, you're scum, whether you're in a wheelchair or not.

Because it's a lousy ass design. Something that really smells with these people is that they always pile up every single "quirky" feature they can think into the same character. So this guy has to be fat because fat acceptance, he's also puerto rican because he has to be brown and he also has to be sort of androgynous. And all these things have to be extremely front and center, he isn't a guy that happens to be fat, no, he needs to be posed in a way his fatness is the first and most apparent thing about him, without it really being connected to anything else.
Another thing I also hate is how everything looks extremely realistic but has these super vibrant colours that just look awful when mixed with the realistic art style.
