Is there anything good out there?
The YouTube idiots recommend this but the screen is crappy.
>>
Why would you waste money on a laptop? If you're going to game, get a proper PC.

Laptops are for school/work/travel etc.
Get a real pc.
>>
>>689404275
No. There aren't even any good desktop pcs and laptops have further limitations on top. You won't be finding a good laptop no matter how hard you look.
>>
Why would you waste money on a laptop? If you're going to game, get a proper PS5 Pro
>>
>>689404275
Depends on where you live and your budget. Microcenter has amazing gaming laptop deals with upgradable ram for around 500 bucks if you're lucky. Aside from that, everything else is overpriced garbage. I'd recommend one of those mini PCs personally if you're trying to game on the go.

Thank you sir. Not to mention $1000 only gets you like some low end trash that will require upgrade in a couple of years. If you don't go big then go home and paying $2000 for a PC to play some games is pretty crazy and not how a normal person would spend their money. Problem is these retards watch too many streamers and then start believing "Asmongoloid is just like me!" but this loser is actually a millionaire. That's how he can afford having a 3 PC's all with 4090's SLI set-up. And if you have the money for that shit then you probably don't even have the time because you need to work but Asmongoloid's work is just to play video games. That's why he shills PC. He gets sponsored by companies that make PC parts too. But if you have the time and you have the money then it's because you are Neet living off your parent's money.

seems like it has pretty good specs for $1000.

>but the screen is crappy

why? are you referring to the resolution? I still think 1080p is ideal for laptops at this point. even the beefiest GPUs still can't handle 4k well.

2024 hasn't seen a good improvement on GPUs or CPUs, but $1000 is pretty cheap. I'm not sure a used laptop would be worth the savings because I think they still go for $700 bucks, and you take the risk of it being worn out.

>>689409902
>Jedi survivor and cyberpunk

I don't think either of these titles run real great on PC. if you want to run modern AAA i still think console is the way to go. even the best PCs still can't match performance of a series X. I think series X's have dropped to around $350 with sales, and at that price it's hard to beat.
>>
>all the seething ITT
Do a bit of research first. Sure laptops are not as powerful as a modern PC, but in recent years they've become pretty capable for gaming: I bought a lenovo LOQ 15 with a RTX 4060, 32 gigs of Ram, 1 TB of space and Ryzen 5 7640HS. It's built pretty solidly, the keyboard feels alright, the screen is pretty clear and it has proven to be quite satisfactory for gaming and a big upgrade compared to my old cheap craptop - I've been able to play games like Dying Light or Shadow of Mordor/War at silky smooth 60 fps at 1080p and high graphics. The whole time temps stayed low and the laptop stayed fairly quiet. I'm not going to play fucking Cyberpunk at ultra graphics or something, because I know that it's not nearly as powerful as a "big" gaming machine. But it's affordable, portable, takes up little space and all the games I AM interested in released in previous years work at silky smooth framerate. So I am satisfied.

this. gaming laptops are a pretty good value now, and are MUCH better built they they used to be.

they are great at playing older titles, and can handle modern games OK in 1080.

my rtx 2060 could handle baldurs gate fine. not sure if i'm gonna try to play any other modern titles on it. I might try hell divers 2. I'm not sure what's going on with PC games. They seem to be really poorly unoptimized frequently.

I have a series x for the most demanding games.

I think the lenovo laptops have the best build quality out there. upgradable ram, best cooling, and most models run at full wattage. just make sure to lookup the specific model specs because they vary.

i've been pretty happy with my rtx 2060 model from 2020. I would still go 1080p on the screen. especially if you play older titles. 1080p is often the top resolution. I don't think 1080p upscales to 1600 well. I know for video you don't want to fuck around with uneven pixel upscaling.

When it comes to laptops, 4060 gpu is the sweetspot for price-performance. Just make sure you do your research and check for things like build quality, display color gamut, weight, heat management, fan noise, etc. Some laptops have great specs but shit everything else. Lenovo and Asus are generally good brands.
Also, why do you want a laptop? Do you travel a lot?

the thing is an ultrabook/macbook/thinkpad is so much better for work/school. build quality, screen is so much better. and if you care about the screen, a cheap gaming laptop will cut corners to get a good price. a gaming laptop is loud as shit, will fill half of your backpack, made of cheap plastic and has a terrible battery, you will always have to be plugged in. the ones that have good build quality are near 2000 dollars and still have battery/thermal problems. if you are only playing something like league or whatever esport, most ultrabooks with the latest integraded cpu can play them on low settings. if you get a cheap gaming laptop with a 3060 you can maybe play games like sekiro on low-mid settings. i say this from experience from getting an omen years ago just bc i wanted to get one for no real reason.

Way to expose yourself for having no idea what you're talking about. Laptop 4080 =! desktop 4080. Laptop 4080 has 12gb vram and 4070 desktop tier performance. Aka it's just a desktop 4070 non-super for all intents and purposes. It gets absolutely MOGGED by the 7900gre. Pic related is the gpu timespy score of the best 4080 laptop gpu (Legion 7i pro). Both the 7900 gre and the 4070 super will get 21k+ gpu score. The 4080 desktop will get 27k+.
There is no reason to buy a laptop unless you travel a lot.
>>
>>689436932
And this is still great performance when you want to have a portable PC that's good for gaming.
>>
>>689404275
Lenovo Legion 5 Pro, decent specs and really good build quality (get the pro model because of the metal chassis)
>>
>>689435135
I used a mid-range gaming PC I built in 2012 for literally a decade. It was a stretch the last 5 years or so, but I reckon if you build a modern PC with an AM5 socket mb it can easily last you a decade just by upgrading gpu and cpu in 5 years.
>>
>>689437149
It is, but powerful gaming laptops are known to suddenly shit the bed after +2 years. Unless you are still within the warranty period you are fucked. I wouldn't invest in a super powerful gaming laptop. Either buy a sub $1k 4060 laptop or just invest in a desktop which has reusable, upgradeable parts.
>>
>>689404275
90% of laptops are made to break, especially cheap ones, I went through a few laptops over the years before figuring it out myself.

Buy a stationary PC if you want to play modern vidya long term, if you don't want one then seriously reconsider, if you still don't want one then buy an ENTERPRISE laptop and just accept the fact that you have to leave a large amount of performance on the table for the sake of portability.
Lenovo is still pretty good with high end stuff (worse than they were years ago though).

If you want to spend less than 750 bucks on a laptop then buy a Steam deck OLED, it is probably still the best "bang for buck" portable gayming device currently, if you can stretch yourself up to 1300 then go for a well known and community recommended Lenovo enterprise laptop or a Framework laptop (13 or 16, both are pretty good. 13 is way more portable but 16 has an actual graphics card)
>>
>>689438987
>recommended Lenovo enterprise laptop
Which ones are recommended? I'm eyeing the T14 but what about the rest?
>>
>>689439546
It all comes down to your preference, budget and how much community support is behind the laptop. I would't buy a thinkpad that hasn't been adopted by the corporate cultists since the added community support and larger amounts of laptops in the wild means A LOT more support from both the community and Lenovo.

My current laptop is the Ryzen edition Framework 13 and I fucking love this thing, it has a few quirks but since its 90% open source and designed to be taken apart, there are workarounds, replacement parts and a ton of community support behind it.
>>
>>689439546
Avoid the Intel variants like the fucking plague, their processors run so hot under load that they literally burn themselves out and the extra CPU performance is not worth it when the 780m Ryzen alternatives have upwards of 75% more performance in vidya and compute tasks
>>
>>689437149
no it isn't considering GPU throttle performance when temperatures get high and its just a fact that a laptop will run hotter than a desktop
>>
>>689432819
My laptop is still running 7y later you where unlucky
>>
>>689439546
I would get a lenovo yoga 2 in 1 that can flip into a tablet. my gradschool made me pay for one in 2014 and it had an i7 at the time and it was pretty good and i played games on low settings like tf2, civ 6, league and stardew valley on it. i remember it could not play csgo well. im sure the newer integrated graphics have gotten better since although i cant be 100% sure. the tablet mode and touchscreen are gamechangers for school honestly. the one my school required was a sturdier thinkpad version that is similar to the current x13 but i think the yoga 9i would be a better experience right now.
>>
>>689434930
Understandable, in that case I'd go with a Lenovo Legion laptop, they're much more affordable and usually with higher specs, you just miss out on the solid aluminum build Razer offers.
Just stay away from ASUS/ROG brand stuff, it's not worth the headache.`
