there is a fan translation for the first game. Learned nip for this one its really cool especially 3 when they have voice dialogue. 2 is kinda a spinoff but also cool if you like dungeon crawlers.

I'm playing Phantom Doctrine and it's really good. Cold war Xcom where you manage a spy agency to confront a global plot.
Eldorado Gate, the first three chapters. I found the first three CDs in some old import shop. The full game was seven Cd, never understood a damn thing about the story. But graphically I liked it, a very retro rpg
>>691950237I played the shit out of this, could never get past the third stage though. The SFX of the witch is burned into my memory
>>691947680wow I've never heard of this one, looks great.
>>691950767played that as a kid way back in the day. you end up turning into a bug and stuff right? had a rocking guitar soundtrack too in places. punching people until they explode. that takes me back
>>691943763>>can't wait for tomorrow to talk about it with my buddy At least you had a buddy to talk to about the game...>tfw none of my whole 2 friends at the time cared about VS and how cool the game and the characters were>tfw looking at vagrant story today makes me realize how old i've gotten
>>691941994False. It's the fourth result.
>>691943763Why are half of these threads always incredibly well known and played games (among gamers, not among generalized public) like fucking Vagrant Story. You're not unique or special because you played a Squaresoft JRPG at the literal height of their popularity and fame, holy fuck.
This and road trip adventure.
>>691939514Its very clearly fanfiction, and the game tends to crash on its own because its RPGMaker, but it has soul and passion, so i can forgive it. Left me pretty satisfied by the end.
>>691952272Redpill me on Towelket
>>691939514No one ever even heard of this one.
>>691953502lonely japanese woman make games about cute girls falling in love with MCGameplay is pretty bad, what you would expect of run of the mill RPGmaker. The whole allure of the games is the storyline and dialogues, which can go from funny to sad to heartwarming pretty quickly. The general theme of the franchise is people longing for something for a long time and finally getting it right before they lose hope. Lots of nostalgic feeling. It's also kinda like Mother/Earthbound in the sense that you never know what zany thing is going to happen next in our heroes' wacky adventure.I recommend them if you like RPGmaker jank kino. Towelket 1 in particular has a pretty beautiful story.
>>691953502Absolutely kino series that has never gotten popular and will never get popular because it contains about a hundred different filters.Unironically has some of the best stories + writing I've ever read once you get to the best games that you'll never experience anywhere else.

>>691953502One of those games which have scenes so impactful that everybody who plays the game remembers them. For example, when I played the game years ago I took a screenshot of this specific scene which I loved. I recently stumbled into an animation made by a random Japanese man about the game and lo and behold, he felt the need to include this random moment too.

The island falling to shit, the npcs transforming into bugs, (you) transforming into bugs, the labyrinthine hives, the fucking time loop spiderGreat experience overallPretty sure there's a weird dungeon crawler in the same setting too
never ever
>>691950767Entomorph pops into my mind now and then. Just a month or two ago I was talking about to my brother. I remember it having a rather dark tone. Apparently there's also anoter game that uses the same setting/world as its backdrop.

>>691963467Released after 2020 is actually easy mode. There's so many no name indies around who get no attention, anyone who plays games not on the steam front page will play 5 "games only you played" in a month. Older games are more impressive, and especially console/PC Disk games because just finding them was rare, competition for shelf space would push nonstarters off availabilty right quick.
>>691963242>>691957730
>>691961816Same, it takes active effort for me not to have Bore in my spellbook. Guess it was easier when terrain was mostly a simple textured plane, but I do like it when a game lets me alter the battlefield significantly.
>>691952610Got it for Birthday or Christmas the year it came out, hated it because it wasn't Breath of Fire. Played it again on a whim as an adult, loved it, it's now my favorite Breath of Fire game. >>691960726It's actually very good, but it suffers in that it is not traditionally a Breath of Fire game. It's basically a roguelike 3D tactical RPG, but this was before roguelikes really took off, so it had that working against it as well. How you're supposed to play it, is that you basically get to the savepoint, then restart, then get to the savepoint again, and now you actually progress. You go once as like a probe/delve thing, then you make your real descent on the next one and actually save. Sounds weird but if you're interested, you'll get it. People also didn't like that you can't spam dragon form, but if you only use it for bosses (as intended) you should be fine. The 3D tactical combat is pretty kino too. It's also a relatively quick playthrough. Maybe like 15-20 hours.

>>691967334It was popular. It started that indie game pacifist route craze, the wave Undertale rode to wild success. I never heard anybody give a shit about the deaths of normal enemies until Iji game popularized it. I used to see it in every freeware game thread. Probably not as big as La-Mulana and definitely not as big as Cave Story, but it got around.I think it fell into obscurity quicker than the others because it... honestly doesn't play that well. Like how nobody remembers Flashback anymore. It's actually more about graphs
>>691965434I have played it a lot. The game is broken as hell:- enemy AI is stupid, enemies don't attack you sometimes- pathfinding and movement is weird, your tank can move sideways- you can complete the mission with 1 unit, it's hard to do in the first four missions, so they are the most interesting- you can get Armageddon card at the start of the game and complete the mission very quickly - it destroys all units and buildings except for command center, and you need to build a couple of tanks and rush the enemy- some card effects are reversed on priests- there is hardly any economy in the game, you are given money every few minutes
If anybody else has actually played this I would love to talk about it.
