>the Combine were willing to teleport him out, to the point where they were willing to give him a new host bodyNo one ever talks about this. Why would they care so much if humanity didn't mean something to them? Or at least loyalties?
There's not much to it. Breen gave his cooperation in exchange for his own safety.
>>693347180they don't care at allthey just want to copy breen's mind and probably use it for processing or something. It really doesn't matter, but he's willing to go through with it
>>693347180Because they need our teleport technology. He even said he could ask any bargain
My impression was that becoming a grub is actually not a pleasant fate, and they were pleasantly bemused that he was volunteering to fuck himself over. Or alternatively, grubs are just copies of the host, and the real thing dies in the process. And they just conveniently decided not to tell him that
The combine aren't interested in Earth or Humanity. The real war is in heaven, a battle that spans galaxies and dimensions, the assimilated vs the unassimilated. Satan and his armies trying to catch the eye of God.
>>693347817According to Breengrub they've copied his mind several times before the events of HL2
The most interesting theory I've heard about the Combine is that there is no final leader. Their is no major council in charge of it all. The reality is that it's become such a major bureaucracy to the point nobody even knows who's in control anymore.
>>693347180Breen with Mossman's help was able to build a working localized teleporter so "saving" Breen would be preserving that knowledge and that's all they really what they cared about.
I wanna see GLaDOS fight off the Combine and keep them out of her facility singlehandedly so bad
>>693352676this
>>693352676She just bribed them with some of the tech and the fragment of her AI (which became Overwatch) in exchange for leaving her and the facility alone.
>>693352178>>693352676>>693355995Huh well this might make sense in the way that aperture science was a competitor to black mesa, but both somehow had stuff related to combine technology, as shown in portal. Combine have the same shit, how and why would both of these companies have in their discovery just stumbled into teleportation and those energy spheres. Now this wouldn't be a problem if it was just half-life but portal means somehow another company was accessing xen tech. The portal gun is magic pretty much but if it was a localised xen gem thing like in underground lab before ravenholm that didn't make a portal that was programmable like the one in kliners lab but that works even stranger way, being a sort of over the wire transfer into a matter reconstruction machine. The portal gun is point and shoot, so I guess if you can hit the moon, you could hit the surface of xen if you could aim it. (Could you? Or would it need to be that moon dust surface?). Anyway, aperture science in my mind, probably was spared from the combine. It was an underground secret testing facility staffed by robots. Abandoned in a cornfield. With sleep cyropods or some shit, and one person survived. Portal 3 is more of an important story somewhat, because what would chell do and in what time is she inside the aperture/ black mesa timeline. Portal doesn't seem to give many answers to that from what I remember. And portal 2 would have to be written in such a way as not to fuck up any potential conflict I'd imagine, for hl3, if it ever was made, to make sense. It's been a while since playing these games but I'm still interested in seeing where it goes.
>>693347180He still had some use left to the combine
Never sat well with me how dismissive/flippant Breen acts towards Gordon once you finally meet him face to face. Didn't occur to me until Breengrub and Epistle 3 that he's probably the only person on the planet who actually knows just how ridiculously hopeless Earth's situation really is to the point that he just doesn't give a fuck. Dunno if that was their intent with Culp's direction but it makes more sense to me now, at least
