I am mostly looking for options in the ASUS TUF brand. Depending on my budget limit my options range looks like this.

Intel CPUs
Core i5 11400h 11 gen
Core i5 12500h 12 gen
Core i7 13620h 13 gen
Core i7 12700h 12 gen

Ryzen CPUs
Ryzen 7 7453hs (the most common economic option)
Ryzen 7 7735hs
Ryzen 7 4800h
Ryzen 5 7535h

GPU

Rtx 2050
Rtx 3050
Rtx 4050
Rtx 4060
Raedon 7600s 8gb

Most of these models come with 16/512 memory and that seems enough to me unless I'm wrong. The issue is I'm not sure just how much performance and which combo will meet my own needs so I hope for guidance in that regard. I am mostly looking for casual aaa gaming, mostly non competitive single player .

Please don't do it anon. I bought a gaming laptop back in November (Lenovo Legion 7i, with a 13900H and a 4070) and it was a nightmare. It was incredibly loud, even on the standard 'Auto' fan setting (there was 3 options, Quiet, Auto, and Performance) and even on the highest fan speed it would regularly sit at 90 degrees on non-demanding games. It isn't fun to game on as you're constantly worrying about doing damage to your very expensive laptop.

Since you're looking at laptops, I'm guessing you don't need/want a full gaming PC so I won't recommend that, but I would recommend getting a MacBook Air for general browsing and getting yourself a PS5 or a Steam Deck or something which is what I did, I was lucky to make back most of the money for it.

buy a laptop without a discreet GPU. they are light, quiet, very portable. a gaming laptop ruins all that. you can literally build a gaming PC with the money you save. if you wait for black friday you can get great deals on non gaming laptops.

I got you anon.

AMD CPU with at least 6 cores, Don't really need more than that unless you are planning on multi-tasking while also playing games. The reason for AMD Cpu is because they use less energy, so in the case you want to run on battery it'll last you 8 hours vs Intel only 4. Not to mention AMD Cpu's despite being superior to Intel's they are always cheaper for some reason. And also Intel 13th and 14th have voltage issue and could kill the Cpu.

GPU must be Nvidia because AMD's run hot as shit and don't have DLSS.

The 4050 is equivalent to a 3060 and both can run anything at 1080/60fps medium. And older last generation games you can even do 4k/60fps in some of them. A 4050 laptop with AMD Cpu could got for like $500 but if you want more longevity then a 4060. If money is not an issue then a 4070 is the best there is. 4080 and 4090 are not worth it because run too hot and the laptop will throttle and end up performing the same as a much cheaper 4070. I know it sounds crazy but these are just the facts. Maybe the 5000 series will improve thermals but as of right now there is no point in going above a 4070.

Lenovo are the best gaming laptops btw.

My computer has 16/512 and it's 8 years old. You shouldn't be buying that in 2024, wait for a sale if you don't have a lot of money.

dont know much about asus tuf laptops. ive had lenovos for a long time and they're good. either way, make sure to get one of those fan stands to go under the laptop to help keep it cool when gayming.
>>
Anon, Asus is okay though TUF is sort of their lower end below ROG / Strix. however Asus' best re their more expensive yet thin models, but instead if you're getting laptop I highly suggest something else instead. First a couple of questions...

>Will this be your only PC / gaming platform?
>You mentioned that its a casual AAA gaming, non-competitive single player as a target.
Are you playing it on battery frequently/actually mobile or are you mostly plugged in with it at your desk/room? I
>RAM question - 16GB enough
For gaming, I'd say its the minimum these days. If you can go 32, do so. that will probably hold you. 64 or more is an edge case sort of thing As far as "512GB" SSDs, first make sure they're M.2 PCI-E 4.0 or 5.0 drives, but if you want AAAs they're fucking BIG - many games will be over 100gb. You may need to get another SSD in the future, but II' suggest making your OS drive 2TB or 1TB at the minimum, as especially if you're not on Linux, Windows will eat up a fair bit of space!!

>Framework or System76
Instead of what you've got there, I suggest you look at https://frame.work/ instead of Asus. Framework is basically the only laptop that is built like a desktop, modular and intended to be upgraded. Some guy with an old mainboard or whatever can just grab a new one to pop in - same with screen etc. Take a look, they have both 13" and 16" models and the latter can even get a discrete GPU if desired. better than most of the others listed there

The thing is I do want to game and building a gaming pc or PS5 would require me to buy a monitor, a table and all the other set ups on top of just the cpu. I am not planning on making those expenses yet and want to make do with laptop for the time being, which I need for work.

>>693352556
>The 4050 is equivalent to a 3060 and both can run anything at 1080/60fps medium

The one with ryzen 7 7435hs and rtx 4050 falls into my price range. But another anon told me that 4050 is mid and min 4060 is necessary. Problem is most 4060 machines are over budget for me. Actually if I shell out $125 more than the 4050 variant I can get the 4060 one. 4070 is nono.

>Lenovo are the best gaming laptops btw.

Ok. I'll check out the lenovo variants too. My friends could swear by tuf but they are not gaymers.

>>693352826
I don't own a monitor or a table. Plus I intend to pirate

>>693353113
>TUF is sort of their lower end below ROG / Strix
Yes. I'm looking for a budget model that can still handle modern gamers relatively well.

>Will this be your only PC / gaming platform?
For the foreseeable future yes.

>Are you playing it on battery frequently/actually mobile or are you mostly plugged in with it at your desk/room? I
I don't intend to game much while on battery.

>If you can go 32, do so.
All 32 models also have higher end cpu and GPU. Too espensive

>You may need to get another SSD in the future, but II' suggest making your OS drive 2TB or 1TB at the minimum, as especially if you're not on Linux, Windows will eat up a fair bit of space!!
I already own a 1 tb hard drive. I'll only keep games that I am actively playing.

Have you looked at Lenovo Legions, you might as well be playing consoles if you're going to use 16gb.
>>
>>693351534
Get a lenovo LOQ it's the best bang for buck with good built quality and no undervolted gpus.
Legion is pretty much the same thing but in aluminium.
>>
>>693354441
Fair comment about the monitor, table etc anon. If you are going for a laptop, the best really is the Lenovo Legion.
Legion 5/5 Pro are a mixture of plastic/aluminium material, and the Legion 7 is a fully aluminium (except Gen8 where the Pro model has plastic components)

Take the money you would have spent and buy a PC instead. Gayming laptops are the worst of all worlds
>sound like a jet engine at anytbing but idle, annoying anyone around you

>technically portable but weighs an asston and usually has a power brick the size of a small child too
>smaller screen that is difficult to replace

>>693354441
This is not a good reason to get a gaming laptop.
The gaming laptop will be hot and unpleasant to play with on your belly, they are also not designed to be used while not plugged in and all have bad battery life.
Just get a table. Surely its not that hard to find one.
>>
>>693356126
Get an LOQ then.

>>693354230
So fucking this. We all know that it's not the best solution, but I had to get a laptop because I'm almost never at home.

If you're "not at home" chances are you won't be playing on your stupid overheating craptop either.
