Otherwise you won't get seeds with the sickle and won't get crops when harvested by hand or with the axe.Another option - level up your combat stats a bit by just going out on random tiles on the road. A guard will spawn to help you fight and the level of monsters is lower the closer to the road you are. Run if things look tough.
