A good portion of alphadream devs that worked on the series before we including key figures who have been around since the start of the series went to acquire
The reason that acquire even made the game is because of those former alphadream developers

The game still has key staff at Nintendo interested in continuing the series so it will still be developed just maybe not at acquire.

I like Brothership, but those games are all better. Brothership has an atrocious start. I still can't believe that you don't get your first Bros attack until 4 hours in.
>>
>>695170401
There's always an EPD team managing externally developed games, they definitely worked on it, no EPD team means no game, especially for smaller titles.

I love the Octopath games (also by Acquire) but I'd argue they start even slower and considerably so when going around to first recruit everyone. You can skip their chapter 1, but why would I do that? Personally I don't mind a slow start as long as the game nicely ramps up, I think some people have too little patience.

>>
>>695171116
Anon, each character starts with more moves than you have in Brothership 15 hours in. The beginning chapters get right into the nitty gritty, introducing the characters, their stories, their goals, their villains, and their playstyle. They're not really slow starts unless you make them slow starts. You can do a solo run and get to your starting character's 3rd chapter by 5 hours in or you can make your way around the world and soak it all in at your own pace.
>>
>>695170935
If they did then there probably wasn’t many of them
It was mostly acquire with former alphadream employees in key roles
It’s not a coincidence why aqcuire was chosen for this game

NTA, but Mario & Luigi games are all like that though
At most they have 10 special attacks and maybe 6 more depending on if there’s another playable character
>>
I really don't think Sony would care enough to make Acquire and Spike Chunsoft create exclusives, they let both of them make exclusives on Switch this generation. The Kadokawa deal isn't about videogames in the first place but anime, manga and novels, but the big get in terms of videogames they'd care about would be From Software.
>>
>>695171990
Though these devs could easily move to a new studio because if Sony actually does buy the parent company, they’ll probably just close the studios down
>>
>>695172089
Amount of skills available in battle isn't a fair point of comparison, M&L is about the action commands which you don't have to worry about in games like Octopath, the execution there is all in builds and preparation as opposed to timing attacks.
>>
>>695167790

>>
>>695169134
Every game is a flop now regardless of how well it performed
>>
>>695171990
That's just how Nintendo approaches game development, multiple EPD teams are just management for external projects and there's always one tied to an external games, even Platinum Games has an EPD management team, it just isn't as hands on, compare that to Metroid and the EPD team handle level design, scenario, overall game design, and Mercury Steam just build the game and engine while also fine tuning smaller elements.
If there's an EPD team that wants to build a new game then they will find a new external development team.

I feel retarded asking this but can you craft multiple of the same plugs right from when you first unlock crafting, or is it a feature that unlocks after so many crafts? Probably good early on, though the Bros. Boost and Performance Bonus plugs coupled with the Auto-Excellent one makes for a very good finisher.

I will say that the plugs allow the Jump and Hammer attacks to be comparable to some of the earlier Bros. Attacks if you know what plugs to use and have them available.
>>
>>695177892
I haven't 100% (I'm pretty close though, only miss three plugs and one sidequest) and it took me 50 hours
>>
>>695178228
I'm just thinking because there's plenty of perks, plugs and gear that would help a lot for that playstyle. The only thing I'm less sure about is counters, since some perks and gear say they buff Jump or Hammer attacks, but it's hard to say if it buffs the counters too or only if you select the Jump or Hammer attack commands.
>>
>>695178868
It all generally boils down to how good you are able to manage your plugs and your plug upkeep, I think.

Best gameplay in the series by far, arguably best story depending on how much you want to fuck Bowser (if you do, BIS is better), the opening filters a lot of people because it's a full 60 hour JRPG with normal JRPG pacing instead of the condensed pacing most of the series has which means the opening is slow as hell.

>>695172881
But the thing is is that acquire handled all of that important stuff for this game, with the former alphadream devs in key roles like lead designers and stuff
It’s the reason why the game is a continuation of the series as opposed to being a full on reboot
Maybe Nintendo could buy acquire since they have their own properties like octopath and tenchu

>>
>>695167790
So is the praise for Brothership typical /v/ contrarianism (since it's getting an abnormally hostile reaction outside this site) or is it actually breddy gud?
>>
>>695196665
The hate is coming from paper fags who didn’t play more than five hours of it.

Yes it is good.
>>
>>695196665
I'm convinced the vast majority of hate is coming from people who haven't played it parroting the opinion of the IGN review. If you see someone claiming the game has long tutorials or the writing is low effort (especially as a point of comparison with previous game), it's objectively bullshit.
>>
>>695196665
The hate you see from Brotherhood is tied what’s been plaguing Nintendo all year, which is the sudden hatred of 3rd parties developing Nintendo games which is what’s led Nintendo to try and hide the developers prerelease.
People intentionally try to nitpick anything they possibly came just so they can say that the 3rd party dev “ruined it” even when some of the shit they’re nitpicking was exactly the same in past games.
The ironic part for the Mario and Luigi games is that it’s ALWAYS been made by a 3rd party, however these people cope by pretending that they were actually a 1st party that Nintendo maliciously shutdown when in reality Alpha Dream went bankrupt due entirely to their own retardation.
>>
>>695196665
The "hate" is just the resident schizos who didn't have any interest in playing in the first place. No one actually takes IGN's opinions seriously. At worst people just don't play the fucking game as with any other game.
>>
>>695197032
Oh wow, are people beginning to notice that certain third party devs are being discriminated against?
>>
>>695197263
The most notable cases this year have been Princess Peach Showtime and Zelda Echoes of Wisdom.

For Peach Showtime people made such a huge massive drama about the game being easy not some dark souls/super meat boy tier hard experience, which is ironic for multiple reasons:
1) Good Feel has ALWAYS made easy games like Kirby’s Epic Yarn and Yoshi’s Wooly World, games that people loved before the 3rd party hate manifested.
2) When Bakeru which is also another Good Feel game that’s just as easy came out later this year, the people who played it liked it because guess what? It’s not a 1st party Nintendo IP anymore.
3) So many people rabidly praised Astro Bot this year despite arguably being even easier than Peach Showtime, but that’s cuz it’s a Sony 1st party game made by a 1st party PS studio.

As for Echoes Wisdom, people bitched for so long for so many years that they wanted playable Zelda but then hated that they couldn’t play Link instead when they finally got what they asked for. People were also nitpicking a bunch of stuff that has always been stapled for Top Down Zelda games just so they can just blame more stuff on Grezzo the 3rd party dev.
>>
>>695197839
The Astro Bot stuff is particularly weird considering that game never reached a comparable amount of sales as some of the other games mentioned did despite the huge amount of shilling and shitposting on /v/.
>>
>>695197839
Epic Yarn was hated back in the day too. But eventually it died down and people began to love it.

At this point I NEVER listen to /v/, because these threads are filled with people who never played the game.

I think it just shows the stratification of videogame discussion. I think as Sony's 1st party games have gotten fewer and fewer there's been an increasing tendency for every single one of their releases to be declared a masterpiece, often even before they come out.

Like even Concord was getting shilled until it imploded on release.
