As for the game, it's a decent movie-game. The Heavy Rain or Until Dawn of its day.

Knights of the Chalice probably. Decent combat-centric D&D3.5E game. It's very ugly and didn't used to be on steam so almost no one knew it existed. 7,62 High Calibre and Brigand Oaxaca get honorable mentions.

Oh yeah, that game was a real piece of shit. I'm not saying every alt. history ww2 have to ape Wolfenstein, but Turning point was lame.
After that, developers made Legendary, another utter shit game, but you shoot griffins and werewolfs. Sounds cool if you ask me, but it was awful. Just a really bad shooter.
And after that, developer made Lost Planet 3! And that was the end of Lost Planet series, may it rest in piece.
Shit dev, released nothing but trash and killed a series with a lot of potential (but that's mainy on Crapcom. Niggers keep beating the horse of Dead Rising).

I’ve been the obscure childhood games whisperer for all my friends but I have a game I played exactly once on vacation that I’ve never been able to find.

It’s either a lightgun game or a spaceship game where you shoot abstract enemies in the air. 3D graphics, and I distinctly remember a boss of floating eyeballs. I was young so it can’t have come after 2006 at the latest. I played it in an arcade cabinet at an icecream shop for about 20 mins.

No one has been able to help me. A Mech Game either made at the tail end of 1999 or beginning of early aughts. First person from the cockpit. You could ride around on wheels or run at full sprint. You could sommersault from the cockpit. First mission was set in a desert and you had to make your way to the other side while flanked by two enemy mechs. There was a very small city or village there you could step around or onto. The cover was green with the image of the mech in it. pc only.

I wish I could remember more of what this thing looked like. If I had to wager from my Mechwarrior experience, it looked vaguely like, a Shadow Hawk but rounder, if you took the Autocannon off the shoulder and set it into its right arm. It had wheels on its feet, allowing you to tilt or lean left to right so you could strafe, you could activate jump jets to vault over obstacles and even do a flip in the air whilst you were firing. But it was slow. You were vulnerable. You could get shot out of the air and crash down and kill your pilot. The cover was a dark green or black, as if the mech was emerging into frame from a jungle, raising its arm triumphantly with smoke steaming off the bore of the weapon. On the back of the box showed huge enviroments, mechs\aircraft\tanks, as well as ships you were suppose to fight on in later levels.
I was so young when I got it, I only had gotten to the second level, where they took your weapons away and told you to run.

I'd call it underrated more than obscure but for all the glazing people give to Metal Slug's pixel art, that shit did not come from nowhere. Irem's Gun Force 2 was basically the prototype to Metal Slug and it shows by having absolute god tier pixelart and some of the most badass run n gun gameplay there is.
It's pretty impressive how shit went from R-Type's pixel art in the 80's to this glorious shit to then Metal Slug remaining to be the toppest of top tier apexes of pixel art.

An odd full motion video choose-the-scene game sort of like Dragon's Lair. Those were popular on the 3DS but somehow this one made it to PS1 long after the novelty wore off.

Anything not in English or Japanese (only slightly outside of "cult classics") has an immediate edge, I guess older (former) USSR stuff too, but how many people actually had a computer there? Should probably disqualify consoles as well a lot of the more obscure ones have tiny libraries and the good consoles have had their libraries picked clean. Got plenty to pick from, but whilst interesting not exactly hidden gems for the a/v/erage player.

K-Tora USA was a welcome surprise though (and I have a webm). A freeware racing game with a basic drifting mechanic and a few tracks. PC-98 only (requires MS-DOS iirc) and there's no pre-installed HDD in neokobe, though I dropped one before so maybe it spread. Archive should still be up on Vector.co.jp anyway, only need to move the files to an HDD image (or your real machine).

I remember playing a demo for this and Turning Point, both were trash, both made me sad as a kid

NOBODY played this (but me)

I think quite a lot of people played it, just because it promised a shooter with griffons and werewolves.

Did they even delivered on it?

So I wouldn't call it much of a hidden gem, more of a hidden turd. But I have literally never talked to anybody that played or even remembers Slamscape on the PS1. It was one of the first PS1 games that my clueless boomer parents randomly bought for me, so I ended up playing it a lot.

You drove a hovercar around nightmare-ish (circus-like for some reason, I think?) levels. You had to avoid and sometimes defeat enemies, while collecting objectives in a half-racing, half-platforming gameplay loop. Lots of strange, open space and glitchy mechanics. Thinking back, it was like a fever dream.

They did on werewolves, but fighting them sucks. Griffon just works as a setpiece, flying around destroying buildings. Maybe you fight it later as a boss, but I never got to that point, cause the game fucking sucks.

My second most obscure game was a lot better, Evolva on the PC. It was a squad-based 3rd person shooter. You controlled a squad of 4 aliens, that could pick up genetic material from defeated alien enemies, and use the DNA to change your stats and abilities. Each of your 4 aliens could be modified separately and could be customized to each specialize in different things. I think it was probably pretty rudimentary in hindsight, but the type of customization that it offered was extremely exciting to me at the time.

Quite a cool flight arcade and one of the few games that actually utilized Wiimote and nunchuck in a cool way - making you use them as a hotas.

I played it because I'm a big Alundra fan and was curious about what else Matrix Soft had done.
It was a bummer.
Whereas Alundra felt like a LttP clone done right--and IMO better--Dual Hearts felt like a poor attempt at blending OoT and a collectathon platformer.

The genetic mechanics were awesome, but underutilized.
